Local Meteorological and Synoptic Characteristics of Fogs Formed over Incheon International Airport in the West Coast of Korea

Fogs observed over Incheon international airport （IIA） in the west coast of Korea from January 2002 to August 2006 are classified into categories of coastal fog, cold sea fog, and warm sea fog based on the areal extent of the fogs and the difference between the air temperature （T ） and the SST, i.e., cold sea fog if TSST = T -SST 〉 0~0C and warm sea fog if TSST 〈 0~0C. The numbers of coastal, cold, and warm sea fog cases are 64, 26, and 9. Coastal fogs form most frequently in winter, while cold sea fogs occur mostly in summer and warm sea fogs are observed from January to May but not in November and December. On average the air gets colder by 1.6~0C during the three hours leading up to the coastal fog formation, and an additional cooling of 1.1~0C occurs during the fog. The change in the dew point temperature （T_d） is minimal except during the fog （0.6~0C）. Decreases in T for the cold and warm sea fogs are relatively smaller. The average Td is higher than SST during the cold sea fog periods but this T_d is more than 4~0C higher than that for the corresponding non-fog days, suggesting that cold sea fogs be formed by the cooling of already humid air （i.e., T_d〉SST）. Increases of T_d are significant during the warm sea fog periods （1.4~0C）, implying that effcient moisture supply is essential to warm sea fog formation. Four major synoptic patterns are identified in association with the observed fogs. The most frequent is a north Pacific high that accounts for 38% of cases. Surface or upper inversions are present in 77%, 69%, and 81% of the fog periods for coastal, cold, and warm sea fogs, respectively.

Evaluation of the Validity of Chaos Theory Based on Systems Thinking for Non-Physicists

Chaos theory was born in the 18th century, physicists still solve the nonlinear dynamic systematic problems within closed-loop systems such as ecosystems, three-body problems involving complexity, and others. Moreover, it has been resolved these problems based on logical thinking using logical solutions with algebra and statistics such as chaos theory. The reason is determinism. Nevertheless, other scientists do not welcome the old chaos theory because the chaos theory is very imperfect and vague. Amazingly, in 2021, there is emerged, and an advanced and systematic solution based on system thinking;it was resolved by a non-physicist on behalf of physicists through interdisciplinary science and it is more perfect than the old chaos theory. Therefore, it is similar to the New World discovered by Columbus. This paper will prove that the existing chaos theory is invalid as a new solution emerges. Nevertheless, current physicists avoid approaching this study as much as possible. Therefore, other scientists have no reason to follow their invalid chaos theory unless physicists prove the validity of chaos theory.

A nanofilter composed of carbon nanotube-silver composites for virus removal and antibacterial activity improvement

We have developed a new nanofilter using a carbon nanotube-silver composite material that is capable of efficiently removing waterborne viruses and *** nanofilter was subjected to plasma surface treatment to enhance its flow rate,which was improved by approximately 62%.Nanoscale pores were obtained by fabricating a carbon nanotube network and using nanoparticle fixation technology for the removal of *** pore size of the nanofilter was approximately 38 nm and the measured flow rate ranged from 21.0 to 97.2 L/（min·m^2）under a pressure of 1–6 kgf/cm^2 when the amount of loaded carbon nanotube-silver composite was 1.0 mg/cm^*** nanofilter was tested against Polio-,Noro-,and Coxsackie viruses using a sensitive real-time polymerase chain reaction assay to detect the presence of viral particles within the *** trace of viruses was found to flow through the nanofilter with carbon nanotube-silver composite loaded above 0.8 mg/cm^***,the surface of the filter has antibacterial properties to prevent bacterial clogging due to the presence of 20-nm silver nanoparticles,which were synthesized on the carbon nanotube surface.

A Case of Angioleiomyoma of the Maxillary Sinus

Angioleiomyoma (ALM) is a benign tumor that occurs most frequently in the subcutaneous tissue of the upper and lower extremities. ALM arising in the sinonasal tract is rare, with fewer than 1% of cases presenting in this region. Only two cases localized to the sinuses have been reported to date in the literature. We report a case of a 30-year-old man complaining of a headache noted to have a concomitant lesion in the maxillary sinus. Histopathological examination following surgical resection confirmed a diagnosis of ALM. This report is the first known report of ALM limited to the maxillary sinus, and the first report to present the imaging data in the ALM in the sinus.

In the era of miniaturization,the one-dimensional nanostructures presented numerous possibilities to realize operational nanosensors and devices by tuning their electrical transport *** size reduction,the physical properties of materials become extremely challenging to characterize and understand due to the complex interplay among structures,surface properties,strain effects,distribution of grains,and their internal coupling *** this report,we demonstrate the fabrication of a single metal-carbon composite nanowire inside a diamondanvil-cell and examine the in situ pressure-driven electrical transport *** nanowire manifests a rapid and reversible pressure dependence of the strong nonlinear electrical conductivity with significant zero-bias differential conduction revealing a quantum tunneling dominant carrier transport *** fully rationalize our observations on the basis of a metal-carbon framework in a highly compressed nanowire corroborating a quantum-tunneling boundary,in addition to a classical percolation boundary that exists beyond the percolation *** structural phase progressions were monitored to evidence the pressure-induced shape reconstruction of the metallic grains and modification of their intergrain interactions for successful explanation of the electrical transport *** pronounced sensitivity of electrical conductivity to an external pressure stimulus provides a rationale to design low-dimensional advanced pressure sensing devices.

Osteoconductive function is remarkably low in bone disease in the absence of bone tissue surrounding the grafting site,or if the bone tissue is in poor ***,an effective bone graft in terms of both osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity is required for clinical ***,the three-dimensional(3D)kagome structure has been shown to be advantageous for bone tissue regeneration due to its mechanical *** this study,a polycaprolactone(PCL)kagome-structure scaffold containing a hyaluronic acid(HA)-based hydrogel was fabricated using a 3D printing *** retention capacity of the hydrogel in the scaffold was assessed in vivo with a rat calvaria subcutaneous model for 3 weeks,and the results were compared with those obtained with conventional 3D-printed PCL grid-structure scaffolds containing HA-based hydrogel and bulk-type HA-based *** retained hydrogel in the kagome-structure scaffold was further evaluated by in vivo imaging system *** further reinforce the osteoinductivity of the kagome-structure scaffold,a PCL kagome-structure scaffold with bone morphogenetic protein-2(BMP-2)containing HA hydrogel was fabricated and implanted in a calvarial defect model of rabbits for 16 *** bone regeneration characteristics were evaluated with hematoxylin and eosin(H&E),Masson’s trichrome staining,and micro-CT image analysis.

Synchronous quintuple primary gastrointestinal tract malignancies: Case report

Multiple primary malignancy is defined as two or more malignancies detected in an individual person. In particular, synchronous quintuple primary malignancy is extremely rare. A 52-year-old male with anal pain and intermittent blood-tinged stool was diagnosed with malignancies in the stomach, jejunum, ascending colon, transverse colon and rectum. He underwent a subtotal gastrectomy, segmental resection of the jejunum and total protocolectomy with end ileostomy. The postoperative pathologic findings were moderate differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma(pT1b N0M0, p StageⅠA), combined adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma of the jejunum(pT3N0M0, p StageⅡA), three mucinous adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon(pT3N0M0, pStageⅡA), transverse colon(pT1N0M0, p StageⅠ) and rectum(pT3N1 a M0, p StageⅢB). The tumors did not lack MLH-1 and MSH-2 expression, as the markers(bat26, D5S346, bat25, D2S123) suggest MSI-H presence. Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy was started according to regimen, FOLFOX 4 for advanced rectal cancer. Six years post-operation, the patient is currently attending regular follow-ups without recurrence or metastasis.

This study has focused on developing numerical procedures for the dynamic nonlinear analysis of cable structures subjected to wave forces and ground motions in the ocean. A geometrically nonlinear finite element procedure using the isoparametric curved cable element based on the Lagrangian formulation is briefly summarized. A simple and accurate method to determine the initial equilibrium state of cable systems associated with self-weights, buoyancy and the motion of end points is presented using the load incremental method combined with penalty method. Also the Newmark method is used for dynamic nonlinear analysis of ocean cables. Numerical examples are presented to validate the present numerical method.

Clinical features of strabismus and nystagmus in bilateral congenital cataracts

Clinical usefulness of ankle brachial index and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity in patients with ischemic stroke

Ankle brachial index （ABI） and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity （baPWV） are widely used noninvasive modalities to evaluate atherosclerosis. Recently, evidence has increased supporting the use of ABI and baPWV as markers of cerebrovascular disease. This study sought to examine the relationship between ABI and baPWV with ischemic stroke. This study also aimed to determine which pathogenic mechanism, large artery disease （LAD） or small vessel disease （SVD）, is related to ABI or baPWV. Retrospectively, 121 patients with ischemic stroke and 38 subjects with no obvious ischemic stroke history were recruited. First, ABI and baPWV were compared between the groups. Then, within the stroke group, the relevance of ABI and baPWV with regard to SVD and LAD, which were classified by brain magnetic resonance image （MRI） and magnetic resonance angiography （MRA） or computed tomography angiography （CTA） findings, was assessed. The baPWV was higher in the stroke group than non-stroke group （1,944.18±416.6 cm/s vs. 1,749.76±669.6 crn/s, P 〈 0.01）. Regarding LAD, we found that mean ABI value was lower in the group with extracranial large artery stenosis （P 〈 0.01）, and there was an inverse linear correlation between ABI and the grade of extracranial large artery stenosis （P〈 0.01）. For SVD, there was a significant correlation between SVD and baPWV （2,057.6±456.57 cm/s in the SVD （＋） group vs. 1,491±271.62 cm/s in the SVD （-） group; P 〈 0.01）. However, the grade of abnormalities detected in SVD did not correlate linearly with baPWV. These findings show that baPWV is a reliable surrogate marker ofischemic stroke. Furthermore, baPWVand ABI can be used to indicate the presence of small vessel disease and large arterial disease, respectively.
