One of the greatest challenges China faces is reshaping its heavily investment-driven mode of economic growth. By investigating how the rebalancing of Japan＇s economic growth mode was realized in the 1970s, we indicate that it is essential in rebalancing to correct the distortions in factor cost （labor cost and capital cost） in a harmonious way. In addition, we refer to Japan＇s experience to indicate that rebalancing of domestic growth does not necessarily lead to external rebalancing.

Articular cartilage damage and osteoarthritis (OA) are common orthopedic diseases in both humans and dogs. Once damaged, the articular cartilage seldom undergoes spontaneous repair because of its avascular, aneural, and alymphatic state, and the damage progresses to a chronic and painful situation. Dogs have distinctive characteristics compared to other laboratory animal species in that they share an OA pathology with humans. Dogs can also require treatment for naturally developed OA;therefore, effective treatment methods for OA are desired in veterinary medicine as well as in human medicine. Recently, interest has grown in regenerative medicine that includes the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). In cartilage repair, MSCs are a promising therapeutic tool due to their self-renewal capacity, ability to differentiate into cartilage, potential for trophic factor production, and capacity for immunomodulation. The MSCs from dogs (canine MSCs;cMSCs) share various characteristics with MSCs from other animal species, but they show some deviations, particularly in their differentiation ability and surface epitope expression. In vivo studies of cMSCs have demonstrated that intraarticular cMSC injection into cartilage lesions results in excellent hyaline cartilage regeneration. In clinical situations, cMSCs have shown great therapeutic effects, including amelioration of pain and lameness in dogs suffering from OA. However, some issues remain, such as a lack of regulations or guidelines and a need for unified methods for the use of cMSCs. This review summarizes what is known about cMSCs, including their in vitro characteristics, their therapeutic effects in cartilage lesion treatment in preclinical in vivo studies, their clinical efficacy for treatment of naturally developed OA in dogs, and the current limitations of cMSC studies.

BACKGROUND In myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS),oxidative stress is closely related to iron overload and DNA damage.A recent study suggested the possibility that increased oxidative stress causes not only iron overload but also disease progression of MDS with DNA *** present a case of MDS with decreased reactive oxygen species(ROS)production in peripheral white blood cells(WBCs)and decreased diacron-reactive oxygen metabolites(d-ROMs)in serum after azacitidine *** SUMMARY A 74-year-old man presented to the hematological department with the chief complaint of *** vital signs were within normal limits at admission with a heart rate of 80 bpm and blood pressure of 135/60 *** tests indicated pancytopenia,a WBC count of 2190 cells/μL,a hemoglobin level of 6.2 g/dL and a platelet count of 7.4×104/μ*** patient was diagnosed with MDS with fibrosis after a bone marrow *** case showed decreased ROS production in WBCs,d-ROMs in serum and Wilms’tumor 1 after azacitidine therapy,after which his hematopoiesis *** Azacitidine therapy can improve hematopoiesis and decrease ROS and d-ROM production.

Internet survey on the provision of complementary and alternative medicine in Japanese private clinics: a cross-sectional study

Objective: Although the use of complementary and alternative medicine(CAM) by the general population has been surveyed previously, the provision of CAM by Japanese physicians in private clinics has not been studied. Universal health insurance system was established in Japan in 1961, and most CAMs are not on the drug tariff. We aimed to clarify the current status of CAM provided by physicians at private clinics in ***: We conducted an internet survey on 400 directors/physicians of private clinics nationwide on the provision of CAM from February 6 to February 10, 2017. Survey items included attributes of subjects,presence/absence of sections or facilities for provision of CAM, proportions of health insurance coverage for medical practices, and source of information. Private clinic was defined as a clinic run by one physician, with less than 20 ***: Commonly provided CAMs were Kampo(traditional Japanese herbal) medicines(34.8%) and supplements/health foods(19.3%). CAMs on the drug tariff were provided in 46.5% of cases at the clinics, but only 16.5% of cases were provided CAMs which were not on the drug tariff, at different neighboring facilities. Among different specialties, Kampo medicines were prescribed at obstetrics/gynecology(54.0%),orthopedics(44.4%), and dermatology(43.0%). Clinics not providing any CAM accounted for 53.5%.With regard to health insurance coverage, 96.8% of the clinics provided only or mainly health services on the universal national health insurance tariff(29.8% and 67.0%, respectively).Conclusion: Kampo medicines represent the most commonly used CAM in private clinics in Japan, and universal national health insurance coverage is considered to be the reason for the high rate of their use.

为克服现今热冲压的难题,开发了一种高强度钢零件的新型热冲压技术。利用快速电阻加热,该热冲压技术所需的设备比电炉加热的设备更简单。与传统液压加工相比,该工艺采用机械伺服高速冲压可以提高成形性。通过具有局部旁路电阻加热的剪切模具,制备了具有不同强度分布的零件。局部电阻加热使得剪切区的流变应力减小,从而使模具淬火钢零件和超高强钢板的剪切更容易。通过对杯壁进行电阻加热,利用热齿键成型技术制备了超高强度钢齿轮盖。同时,还通过热冲压成型制备了汽车用中空导流槽。一次热压成形工艺包括电阻加热、成形、剪切和模具冷却等流程,该工艺适用于相对较小的高强度钢零件。

Annual periodicity of fruiting in temperate forests in Yakushima, Japan

Fruiting phenology, assessed by seed fall, in five warm- and cool-temperate forests on Yakushima Island, southern Japan, was studied for two years in one 50 m × 50 m plot and for four years in four 100 m ×50 m plots. The elevation of the plots ranged between 170 and 1200 m a.s.l. Seed fall phenology showed annual periodicity in all five plots. This was clear when assessed by the number of species but became less clear when assessed by the biomass of seed litter. Community-level annual periodicity was based on the prevalence of population-level annual periodicity and interspecific synchronization of the fruiting peak from autumn to winter. Fleshy fruits had peaks of seed fall in a wider range of months than non-fleshy fruits, since it is sometimes beneficial to bear fruit outside the community-level fruiting peaks in order to avoid interspecific competition for animal seed dispersers. No consistent effect of climatic factors on seed fall phenology was detected.

There had been no standardized rules for citing ethical Kampo products used in clinical trials in journal articles. Although the name of a Kampo manufacturer was described in 77.9% of research articles, the name and ratios of crude drug components of Kampo formulas were not described in 77.5% of these papers. Considering the importance of proper characterization of interventions in the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials （CONSORT） checklist, we hereby propose the use of the Standards of Reporting Kampo Products （STORK） website, http：//***/stork, as a reference for Kampo products. This will provide an official source on the internet for verified information on individual Kampo formulations for citation purposes in clinical research articles.

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis mimicking gallbladder carcinoma with a false-positive result on fluorodeoxyglucose PET

Recently, several reports have demonstrated that fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography （FDG-PET） is useful in differentiating between benign and malignant lesions in the gallbladder. However, there is a limitation in the ability of FDG-PET to differentiate between inflammatory and malignant lesions. We herein present a case of xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis misdiagnosed as gallbladder carcinoma by ultrasonography and computed tomography. FDG-PET also showed increased activity. In this case, FDG-PET findings resulted in a false-positive for the diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma.
