Multilayer film was fabricated on an electrode surface by alternate layer-by-layer（LBL） adsorption of polycationic redox polymer（PEI-Fc） and dye-linked L-proline dehydrogenase（L-proDH）.The electrochemistry of the PEI-Fc/L-proDH multilayer modified electrode was investigated by cyclic voltammetry,and the enzyme catalysis mediated by the redox polymer was studied in a solution containing *** was observed that electron communication between L-proDH and the electrode was achieved with the help of PEI-Fc.A mathematical expression for the current response was evaluated based on the Michaelis-Menten kinetics mode,and the calculated currents fitted well with the experimental *** kinetic analysis indicates that only a small fraction of the immobilized enzyme was efficiently electrically wired by the redox polymer.

AIM: To investigate the effects of taurolithocholate (TLC)on the canalicular motility in isolated rat hepatocyte cou-plets (IRHC).METHODS: TLC was added to IRHC at concentrationsof 10 and 50 μmol/L, respectively. In each group, fi vetime-lapse movies containing 3 representative bile cana-liculi were taken under phase-contrast microscopy for12 h. The number of bile canalicular contractions andthe intervals between consecutive canalicular contrac-tions were calculated. Furthermore, the effects of TLC onIRHC were examined by transmission electron ***: The bile canalicular contractions were spon-taneous and forceful in the controls. Active vesicularmovement was observed in the pericanalicular *** after the addition of TLC, the bile canaliculiwere deformed, and canalicular bile was incorporatedinto the vacuoles. The canaliculi were gradually dilated,and canalicular contractions were markedly inhibited byTLC. The vesicular movements became extremely slowin the pericanalicular region. The number of canalicularcontractions significantly decreased in the TLC-treatedgroups, as compared with that in the controls. The timeintervals were prolonged, as the TLC dosage increased,indicating that bile secretion into the canaliculi wasimpaired with TLC. Transmission electron microscopyrevealed the lamellar transformation of the canalicularmembranes in IRHC treated with ***: TLC impairs both the bile canalicularcontractions and the canalicular bile secretion, possiblyby acting directly on the canalicular membranes in TLC-induced cholestasis.

Although spinal tumors are uncommon, they may reduce survival or cause serious functional disorders in the extremities. Metastatic spinal tumors from malignant tumors can induce symptoms of spinal cord compression, such as paraplegia, quadriplegia, and vesicorectal disturbance, which are aggravated with progression of the diseases and time. We report a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who was suspected of having spinal lesions based on neurological findings, and a metastatic spinal tumor was found by imaging examination. Assuming that metastasis had occurred at the time lumbar pain developed, the patient reached the level of gait disturbance within only 4 mo, showing a rapid advancement of symptoms. If early diagnosis had been possible, treatment could be performed before acute myelopathy progressed to complete paralysis. We speculate that the terminal stage of HCC is not only liver failure associated with intrahepatic lesions but also metastasis to other regions, treatment for individual pathologies therefore, will be needed, which constitutes an important issue.

BACKGROUND Mucosal patterns(MPs)observed on blue laser imaging in patients with atrophic gastritis can be classified as spotty,cracked,and ***,we hypothesized that the spotty pattern may change to the cracked pattern after Helicobacter pylori(***)*** To further substantiate and comprehensively investigate MP changes after *** eradication in a larger number of *** We included 768 patients who were diagnosed with atrophic gastritis with evaluable MP using upper gastrointestinal endoscopy at the Nishikawa Gastrointestinal Clinic,*** them,325 patients were ***-positive,and of them,101 patients who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy before and after *** eradication were evaluated for post-eradication MP *** patients’MPs were interpreted by three experienced endoscopists who were blinded to their clinical *** Among 76 patients with the spotty pattern before or after *** eradication,the pattern disappeared or decreased in 67 patients[88.2%,95%confidence interval(CI):79.0%-93.6%),appeared or increased in 8 patients(10.5%,95%CI:5.4%-19.4%),and showed no change in 1 patient(1.3%,95%CI:0.2%-7.1%).In 90 patients with the cracked pattern before or after *** eradication,the pattern disappeared or decreased in 7 patients(7.8%,95%CI:3.8%-15.2%),appeared or increased in 79 patients(87.8%,95%CI:79.4%-93.0%),and showed no change in 4 patients(4.4%,95%CI:1.7%-10.9%).In 70 patients with the mottled pattern before or after *** eradication,the pattern disappeared or decreased in 28 patients(40.0%,95%CI:29.3%-51.7%),appeared or increased in 35 patients(50.0%,95%CI:38.6%-61.4%),and showed no change in 7 patients(10.0%,95%CI:4.9%-19.2%).CONCLUSION After *** eradication,MPs changed from spotty to cracked in most patients,which may help endoscopists easily and precisely evaluate ***-related gastritis status.

Kinetics of thermal decomposition of benzene on lignite-derived char was investigated at 900℃ by applying a new method to continuously monitor the char surface *** vapor was continuously forced to pass through a micro fixed bed of char with residence time as short as 7.6 ms,and then detected continuously by a flame-ionization *** showed the presence of two different types of char surfaces;consumptive Type I surface and non-consumptive(sustainable)Type II *** I surface of a partially CO_(2)-gasified char had an capacity of carbon deposit from benzene over 20 wt%-char and an initial activity(represented by a first-order rate constant)as high as 160 s−*** of them decreased with increasing carbon deposit due to consumption of micropores accessible to benzene,and finally became zero leaving Type II surface that had a very stable activity with rate constant of 4 s−*** chars without gasification had capacities of Type I surfaces smaller by two orders of magnitude than the partially gasified char,while the Type II surfaces had activities similar to that of the partially gasified *** was found that Type II surface converted benzene into not only carbon deposit but also diaromatics and even greater *** of the greater aromatics was unknown because they were deposited onto the reactor wall immediately after passing through the char bed.

Over the last decade,scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)has emerged as a powerful tool for probing atomic structures of complex materials with picometer precision,opening the pathway toward exploring ferroelectric,ferroelastic,and chemical phenomena on the atomic *** to date extracting a polarization signal from lattice coupled distortions in STEM imaging rely on discovery of atomic positions from intensity maxima/minima and subsequent calculation of polarization and other order parameter fields from the atomic ***,we explore the feasibility of polarization mapping directly from the analysis of STEM images using deep convolutional neural networks(DCNNs).In this approach,the DCNN is trained on the labeled part of the image(i.e.,for human labelling),and the trained network is subsequently applied to other *** explore the effects of the choice of the descriptors(centered on atomic columns and grid-based),the effects of observational bias,and whether the network trained on one composition can be applied to a different *** analysis demonstrates the tremendous potential of the DCNN for the analysis of high-resolution STEM imaging and spectral data and highlights the associated limitations.

AIM： To investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF/and its receptors VEGFR-1 and 2 in the growth and differentiation of gastrointestinal strornal tumors （GISTs）. METHODS： Thirty-three GISTs, 15 leiomyomas and 6 schwannomas were examined by immunohistochemistry in this study. RESULTS： VEGF protein was expressed in the cytoplasm of tumor cells, and VEGFRol and 2 were expressed both in the cytoplasm and on the membrane of all tumors. Irnrnunohistochernical staining revealed that 26 GISTs （78.8%）, 9 leiornyornas （60.0%） and 3 schwannornas （50.0%/were positive for VEGF; 24 GISTs （72.7%/, 12 leiornyornas （80.0%） and 4 schwannornas （66.7%） were positive for VEGFR-1; 30 GISTs （90.9%/, 5 leiornyornas （33.3%/and 4 schwannornas （66.7%） were positive for VEGFR-2. VEGFR-2 expression was statistically different between GISTs and leiomyomas （P 〈 0.0001）. However, there was no correlation between the expression of VEGF pathway componenets and the clinical risk categories. CONCLUSION： Our results suggest that the VEGF pathway may play an important role in the differentiation of GISTs, leiomyomas and schwannomas.

Pancreatic schwannoma:Case report and an updated 30-year review of the literature yielding 47 cases

Pancreatic schwannomas are rare neoplasms. Authors briefly describe a 64-year-old female patient with cystic pancreatic schwannoma mimicking other cystic tumors and review the literature. Databases for PubMed were searched for English-language articles from 1980 to 2010 using a list of keywords, as well as references from review articles. Only 41 articles, including 47 cases, have been reported in the English literature. The mean age was 55.7 years （range 20-87 years）, with 45% of patients being male. Mean tumor size was 6.2 cm （range 1-20 cm）. Tumor location was the head （40%）, head and body （6%）, body （21%）, body and tail （15%）, tail （4%）, and uncinate process （13%）. Thirty-four percent of patients exhibited solid tumors and 60% of patients exhibited cystic tumors. Treatment included pancreati- coduodenectomy （32%）, distal pancreatectomy （21%）, enucleation （15%）, unresectable （4%）, refused opera- tion （2%） and the detail of resection was not specified in 26% of patients. No patients died of disease with a mean follow-up of 15.7 mo （range 3-65 too）, although 5 （11%） patients had a malignancy. The tumor size was significantly related to malignant tumor （13.8 ＋ 6.2 cm for malignancy vs 5.5 ＋ 4.4 cm for benign, P = 0.001） and cystic formation （7.9 ~ 5.9 cm for cystic tumor vs 3.9 ＋ 2.4 cm for solid tumor, P = 0.005）. The preoperative diagnosis of pancreatic schwannoma remains difficult. Cystic pancreatic schwannomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cystic neoplasms and pseudocysts. In our caset intraoperative frozen sec- tion confirmed the diagnosis of a schwannoma. Simple enudeation may be adequate, if this is possible.

AIM： Gastrointestinal stromal tumors （GISTs） are rare. GISTs differ from other mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract （e.g. leiornyomas and schwannomas）. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of Ets-1 in the growth and differentiation of GISTs. METHODS： Twenty-eight GISTs, nine leiomyomas and six schwannomas were examined by immunohistochemical staining method for Ets-1 in this study. Specimens were selected from surgical pathology archival tissues at Nagasaki University Hospital. RESULTS： Ets-1 protein was expressed in the cytoplasm of cells in all of these tumors. Immunohistochemical staining revealed that 27 GISTs （96.4%）, six leiomyomas （66.7%）, and five schwannomas （83.3%） were positive for Ets-1. Ets-1 expression was statistically different between GISTs and leiomyomas （P〈0.005）. However, there was no correlation between Ets-1 expression and clinical risk categories. CONCLUSION： Ets-1 plays an important role in the growth and differentiation of GISTs, leiomyomas and schwannomas.
