High resolution deep imaging of a bright radio quiet QSO at z～3

We have obtained deep J and Ks-band images centered on a bright radio quiet QSO UM 402 （Zem = 2.856） using the IRCS camera and adaptive optics systems that are part of the Subaru Telescope, as well as retrieved WFC3/F140W archive images of this object. A faint galaxy （ink = 23.32 ±0.05 in the Vega magnitude system） that lies ～2.4″north of the QSO sightline has been clearly resolved in all three deep high resolution datasets, and appears as an irregular galaxy with two close components in the Ks-band images （separation ～ 0.31″）. Given the small impact parameter （b = 19.6 kpc, at Zlls = 2.531）, as well as the red color of （J - Ks）vega ～1.6, it might be a candidate galaxy giving rise to the Lyman Limit system absorption at Zabs = 2.531 seen in the QSO spectrum. After carefully subtracting the point spread function from the QSO images, the host galaxy of this bright radio quiet QSO at z ～ 3 was marginally revealed. We placed a lower limit on the host component of mk～ 23.3 according to our analyses.

Photosynthetic rate at the present atmospheric condition is limited by the CO2-fixing enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase(Rubisco)because of its extremely low catalytic rate(kcat)and poor affinity for C02(Kc)and specificity for CO2(Sc/O).Rubisco in C4 plants generally shows higher k cat than that in C3 *** consists of eight large subunits and eight small subunits(RbcS).Previously,the chimeric incorporation of sorghum C4-type RbcS significantly increased the k cat of Rubisco in a C3 plant,*** this study,we knocked out rice RbcS multigene family using the CRISPR-Cas9 technology and completely replaced rice RbcS with sorghum RbcS in rice *** hybrid Rubisco showed almost C4 plant-like catalytic properties,i.e.,higher kcai,higher Kc,and lower Sc/*** lines expressing the hybrid Rubisco accumulated reduced levels of Rubisco,whereas they showed slightly but significantly higher photosynthetic capacity and similar biomass production under high C 02 condition compared with wild-type ***-resolution crystal structural analysis of the wild-type Rubisco and hybrid Rubisco revealed the structural differences around the central pore of Rubisco and the pC-pD hairpin in *** propose that such differences,particularly in the pC-pD hairpin,may impact the flexibility of Rubisco catalytic site and change its catalytic properties.

It is well known that α-synuclein (αS) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Moreover, oxidative stress is also thought to be an important factor in PD due to induction of dopaminergic neuronal cell death by free radicals and enhancement of αS fibrillation by oxidized stress. In the present study, to clarify the role of glutathione (GSH), an intracellular antioxidant, on the molecular mechanism of αS-induced cell injury, we examined the effects of L-buthionine-SR-sulfoximine (BSO), a GSH synthase inhibitor, with or without N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), a source of GSH, on αS-induced cell injury in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells. Treatment with BSO significantly reduced the cell viability of both empty-vector- and αS-transfected SH-SY5Y cells in a dose-dependent manner (p < 0.01), although the ratio of αS-induced reduction of cell viability in α-syn-transfected cells was much greater than that in empty-vector-transfected cells. Moreover, BSO significantly reduced the intracellular total GSH level in both types of transformant cells. However, NAC significantly prevented BSO-induced reduction of both cell viability and GSH level in the αS-transfected cells. These findings suggest that GSH plays an important role in αS-induced cell injury by reducing cell viability.

Zonisamide (ZNS), a commonly used anticonvulsant, scavenged hydroxyl radicals at a clinically relevant concentration. Reactants of ZNS with hydrogen peroxide and with hydrogen peroxide plus UV irradiation, yielding hydroxyl radicals, were analyzed by the LC/MS technique. Many small fragments were found in the both reactions, suggesting that ZNS was decomposed not only by hydroxyl radicals but also by hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, mass-fragment-grams showed that m/z: 213 (ZNS itself) was decreased markedly and m/z: 118 (may be a decomposed product by ring cleavage of ZNS) was detected specifically by treatment with hydroxyl radical. These data suggested that ZNS may react directly with free radicals.

Supramolecular liquid crystals(SLCs)are attractive materials for fabricating devices with new optoelectronic *** SLCs are made from hydrogen-bonded ***,these mesogens suffer from high melting points,and the types of formable aggregates are limited owing to the directionality of the hydro-gen ***,to fabricate non-hydrogen-bonded SLCs,we hypothesized that the introduction of tertiary amide groups into calamitic molecules would be advantageous because they have an L-shaped structure with N-or C-alkyl side chains not aligned along the long axis and theflexibility to undergo cis–trans *** this study,we developed a novel non-hydrogen-bonded SLC by assembling an L-shaped dimer composed of calamitic molecules(phenyltolanes)with tertiary amides at their *** molecules exhibited a smectic B *** phase tran-sition temperature of the SLCs from crystal to liquid crystal phase was low despite the longπ-conjugated ***-angle X-ray diffraction and variable-temperature Fourier-transform infrared measurements revealed dimer formation by weak inter-molecular interactions,that is,the molecular recognition of L-shaped molecules,and mobility of the alkyl groups attached to amide driven by cis–trans isomerization in the liquid crystal ***,cis–trans isomerization of tertiary amides contributed enormously to the formation and lower clearing points of this *** developed method can be used not only to develop non-hydrogen-bonded SLCs but also to develop novel soft matter with controlled properties by incorporating the SLCs,as the aggregates can be controlled to impart desired functionalities.

In this article, a method to control power-assisted carts with motor torque limiter that achieves the desired load-reduction ratio even if torque saturation occurs, is proposed to reduce the size and power consumption of power-assist systems. This method uses the ratio of the assist-force impulse to the operator-force impulse as an indicator for evaluating proposed method. Proposed method predicts the needs of the operator and delivers the desired load-reduction ratio by predicting operation. The results show that the target load-reduction ratio can be obtained with proposed control method and indicate that the target load-reduction ratio can be obtained with 80% force. By applying our proposed method, short available time of power-assisted carts will be improved.
