Introduction: The management of urinary lithiasis in our settings has long been conventional surgery. The recent introduction of endoscopy of the upper urinary tract represents a major advance in our department. The aim was to contribute to the study of the treatment of lithiasis of the upper urinary tract in Conakry and to report on our initial experience of ureteroscopy in Conakry. Methodology: This is a prospective descriptive study lasting one year, from January 1 to December 31, 2022, carried out at the Urology Department of the Ignace Deen National Hospital and at the PERCHIN Urological Clinic. The study included all patients treated surgically for lithiasis of the upper urinary tract who met the selection criteria. Results: The study included 57 patients. The mean age was 30 years, with extremes of 20 and 73 years;the most represented age group was 31 to 40 years, followed by 20 to 30 years with 29.9% and 26.3% respectively. Males predominated in 36 cases (63.15%), with a M/F sex ratio of 1.71. Left-sided renal colic was the most common, at 75.43% (n=43), and right-sided renal colic at 40.35%, associated with digestive signs at 43.85%. 77.19% had normal creatinine levels before surgery, versus 22.81% with elevated creatinine levels, i.e. 15.78% improvement in renal function after surgery. Urinary tract infection was found in 47.36%, and Escherichia coli in 31.57%, followed by staphylococcus aureus in 8.77%. Overall, 82.45% of patients had organic damage to the kidneys or ureters. Right ureterohydronephrosis was noted in 56.14%, followed by left hydronephrosis in 26.32%. Open surgery was predominant in 52.63% of cases, with endoscopic surgery (URS) accounting for a significant 47.36% during the study period. The endoscopic treatment used was laser ureteroscopy. In our study, 73.68% underwent drainage of the upper excretory tract, including 64.91% with a JJ catheter. In our center where a lot of water is used for watering and cleaning the classrooms, the management of wastewater as a resource can be a real opportunity. The main objective of this research is to size and determine the effectiveness of natural treatments of the wastewater treatment system composed of a septic tank and a treatment plant which would be installed in site Ngoundiane of Alioune DiOP University, in Bambey, Senegal. Overall, we noted that the sized septic tank dimensioned in our study allows the efficient settling of wastewater which depends on the flow point ratio and useful settling surface area that must be lower than the upward speed that corresponds to 0.8 m/h. The sizing of the septic tank led us to obtain a useful capacity of 88 m3 and a horizontal surface of 44 m2 with a height of 2 m. The ratio between the flow of the wastewater received and the upward speed is 0.17 m/h and is significantly lower than the recommended speed. In addition, the station will be able to eliminate 80.418% of the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), 75.522% of the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), 92.385% of Suspended Solid (SS) and 43.427% of Nitrogen compounds.

Analysing the Factors Affecting Prenatal Visits in Guinea: A Secondary Study of the 2018 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS)

Background: Despite persistent efforts to improve maternal health through various interventions, Guinea faces challenges in achieving adequate antenatal care coverage (ANC). This study aims to identify the key factors influencing prenatal consultation in Guinea. Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted on Guinea’s 2018 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) data. The study sample comprised women aged 15 - 49 who participated in the survey. Logistic regression was employed to identify the determinants of ANC utilisation. Results: Most women in the sample (59.1%) were aged between 18 and 30, resided in rural areas (69.8%), had no formal education (71.0%), had low incomes (43.4%), were married (91.4%), relied on the radio for information (63.4%), and were employed at the time of the survey (68.0%). The study identified several factors acting as barriers to meeting the recommended four ANC visits, including low education levels, with odds ratios (OR) of 0.43 (p = 0.011) for those with no schooling and 0.48 (p = 0.046) for those with primary-level education. Lack of radio access also negatively influenced ANC utilisation with an OR of 0.72 (p = 0.012). Additionally, delayed timing of the first ANC visit in the second trimester had an OR of 0.36 (p 0.001), while in the third trimester, the OR was 0.04 (p 0.004). On the other hand, factors that facilitated achieving the recommended four ANC visits included having an average wealth quintile with an OR of 1.63 (p = 0.002) and being wealthy with an OR of 2.30 (p 0.001). Conclusion: This study underscores the negative association between low education level and poverty with ANC utilisation among pregnant women in Guinea. These findings emphasise the need for targeted interventions to address the barriers faced by vulnerable populations and improve maternal healthcare access and utilisation in the country.

Back Surface Recombination Velocity Modeling in White Biased Silicon Solar Cell under Steady State

In this paper, we extend the concept of back surface recombination through a study of a silicon mono facial solar cell in static regime and under polychromatic illumination. Back surface recombination velocities noted Sbe, Sbj and Sbr are determined for which respectively we derived, the power, the fill factor and the conversion efficiency, that become constant whatever the thickness of the solar cell. We have then obtained the expression of the minority carrier’s density in the base from the continuity equation. We then have determined the photocurrent density, the photo voltage, the power, the fill factor and finally the conversion efficiency.

Cancer on Testicle Not Descended: Clinical and Therapeutic Aspects of 7 Cases

Objective: To study the clinics and therapeutics of testicular cancer not descended in Senegal. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study over a period of 15 years between January 1997 and January 2012. It focused on 07 patients. Results: The average hospital incidence was less than one case per year. The average age of patients was 30.7 years with a median of 28 (range, 21 years and 38 years). The reasons for consultation were dominated by the existence of an abdominal or pelvic mass associated with an emptiness of the stock market. Orchiectomy was the main therapeutic gesture. It was performed by transperitoneal route. CT-TAP was performed in all cases and revealed a tumor independent of the liver of the spleen or kidneys, developed on an undescended testicle. Four cases of lumbar-aortic lymph node metastasis were noted. Histologically, we noted four cases of embryonic carcinoma and three cases of seminoma. Four patients died within six months postoperatively. Two in an intestinal obstruction chart, one in a peritoneal carcinomatosis chart and one patient in a pulmonary embolism chart. Two had a 4-year survival without recurrence. One patient had a 7-year survival without recurrence. At the time of the counting, these three patients were lost sight off. Conclusion: Intra-abdominal or pelvic development of testicular cancer is rare. It constitutes a major subsequent risk of the undescended testicle.

Pronostic Factors of Cerebral Toxoplasmosis in Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at Donka National Hospital

Objectives: To identify predictive factors for poor prognosis during cerebral toxoplasmosis at Donka Hospital. Methods: It was a retrospective study of descriptive and analytic type lasting one year six months (18 months) from January 1st, 2016 to June 30th, 2017 which involved patients admitted and hospitalized for cerebral toxoplasmosis in HIV field. Data enter was performed by Epi data 3.1 software and SPSS 21 software for statistical analysis. The threshold of significance was p Results: We observed 87 cases of cerebral toxoplasmosis (CT). The mean age was 38.53 ± 12.16. The clinical signs were mainly infectious syndrome (100%), headache (69.0%), confusion (46.0%) and meningeal syndrome (41.4%). The lethality was 37.9%. Living with a partner (p = 0.007), CD4 at initiation of antiretroviral therapy 3 (p = 0.009), and coma (p = 0.02) were the factors associated with death. Conclusion: This study showed that cerebral toxoplasmosis is associated with very high morbidity and mortality in the Infectious Diseases Department of Donka National Hospital. Living in a relationship, CD4 counts at baseline 3 and coma were independently associated with death. Special attention to these factors associated with infectious resuscitation and primary prevention in patients with a CD4 T lymphocyte count below 200 cells/mm may improve the prognosis of this pathology.

This work deals with determining the optimum thickness of the lamella wafer of silicon solar cell. The (p) base region makes up the bulk of the thickness of the wafer. This thickness has always been a factor limiting the performance of the solar cell, as it produces the maximum amount of electrical charges, contributing to the photocurrent. Determining the thickness of the wafer cannot be only mechanical. It takes into account the internal physical mechanisms of generation-diffusion-recombination of excess minority carriers. They are also influenced by external factors such as temperature and magnetic field. Under these conditions, magneto transport equation is required to be applied on excess minority carrier in lamella base silicon solar cell. It yields maximum diffusion coefficient which result on Lorentz law and Umklapp process. Then from photocurrent, back surface recombination velocity expressions are derived, both maximum diffusion coefficient and thickness dependent. The plot of the back surface recombination calibration curves as function of lamella width, leads to its maximum values, trough intercept points. Lamella optimum width is then obtained, both temperature and magnetic field dependent and expressed in relationships to show the required base thickness in the elaboration process.

Congenital Urethral Diverticulum in Male Subject: Report of Three Cases

Introduction: The urethral diverticulum or urethrocele corresponds to a saccular dilation of a portion of the urethral wall. Our objective was to report the clinical aspects, investigations and therapeutic aspects of three cases of congenital urethrocele. Observations: They were three male patients aged 11, 20 and 42 years, two of whom had consulted for terminal dribbling. The diagnosis of urethrocele was made for all patients with retrograde and voiding cystouretrography. Treatment consisted of resection of the urethrocele followed by urethroplasty for both cases. Conclusion: Diagnostic of congenital urethrocele must always be assessed when there is a persistent terminal dribbling, and systematically ask for a retrograde and voiding cystourethrography to confirm it.
