Computational biology plays a significant role in the discovery of new biomarkers, the analyses of disease states and the validation of potential biomarkers. Biomarkers are used to measure the progress of disease or the physiological effects of therapeutic intervention in the treatment of disease. They are also used as early warning signs for various diseases such as cancer and inflammatory diseases. In this review, we outline recent progresses of computational biology application in research on biomarkers discovery. A brief discussion of some necessary preliminaries on machine learning techniques (e.g., clustering and support vector machines—SVM) which are commonly used in many applications to biomarkers discovery is given and followed by a description of biological background on biomarkers. We further examine the integration of computational biology approaches and biomarkers. Finally, we conclude with a discussion of key challenges for computational biology to biomarkers discovery.

PSA Screening for Prostate Cancer in Men under the Age of 65: A Review of Current Practice

Purpose: To review current practice in the use of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) testing and assess the overall risks and benefits of PSA testing for Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate, specifically in men under age 65, and those living with risk factors for the disease. Materials and Methods: An extensive literature review of PSA testing in various age groups was conducted with the goal being to review PSA screening trends and assess current recommendations regarding PSA Screening for Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate in various age groups, focusing on studies directed towards patients under the age of 65 and the long-term risks and benefits of PSA screening in the diagnostic algorithm. In order to reduce bias, we assessed our sources for variables such as reporting, measurement and/or selection bias. Our conclusions were then compared with current recommendations. Relevant studies with data compiled after 2004, centered around PSA screening in men under the age of 65 in general and specifically in men with risk factors for developing Adenocarcinoma of the Prostate were included. Editorials, newspaper articles and other non-scholarly and non-peer reviewed sources were automatically excluded.

Approximate Solution of Lane-Emden Type Equations Using Variation of Parameters Method with an Auxiliary Parameter

Lane-Emden type equation is a nonlinear differential equation appears in many fields such as stellar structure, radioactive cooling and modeling of clusters of galaxies. In this work, this equation is investigated using a semi-analytical method called the Variation of parameters method with an auxiliary parameter. In the applied technique, an unknown auxiliary parameter is inserted in Variation of Parameters Method to solve some special cases of these equations. The used algorithm is easy to implement and very effective. The obtained solutions are also fairly accurate.

AIM：To investigate hepatitis C virus （HCV） seroprevalence in Tunisian patients with diabetes mellitus and in a control group. METHODS： A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the HCV seroprevalence in 1269 patients with diabetes （452 male, 817 female） and 1315 nondiabetic patients, attending health centers in Sousse, Tunisia. HCV screening was performed in both groups using a fourth-generation enzyme immunoassay. RESULTS： In the diabetic group, 17 （1.3%） were found to be HCV-infected compared with eight （0.6%） in the control group, although the difference was not significant （P = 0.057）. Quantitative PCR was performed in 20 patients. Eleven patients were positive and showed HCV genotype lb in all cases. CONCLUSION： Frequency of HCV antibodies was low in patients with diabetes and in the control group in central Tunisia, with no significant difference between the groups.

礼貌是社会上最基本的道德规范,需要每个人去遵守。礼貌不只是伦理学范围内所研究的内容,同时社会语言学和语言学也会研究这个课题。自古以来中国和阿拉伯国家的来往比较频繁,无论是经济,政治和文化都是非常亲密的。为了让两个民族顺利地交往,必须了解对方的语言,文化,思维方式。近些年,研究阿拉伯世界的中国学者越来越多,但他们研究的领域大多是在社会,文化方面的,很少有中国学者研究阿拉伯语的语言学,因此,进行汉语和阿拉伯语的礼貌语言研究,这样的研究还有更大的空间。本文的题目是《汉语阿拉伯语礼貌用语比较研究》。本文从汉语的礼貌用语表达方式这一角度出发,把汉语的礼貌用语整理好,把影响礼貌用语的文化元素讲述出来,同时和阿拉伯语的礼貌用语比较,探讨文化对两种语言的影响,发现它们的相同之处和不同之处。而且通过西方语言学者所定义的礼貌原则来阐述语言中的礼貌现象。本文也探讨了阿拉伯国家的各个方言的礼貌用语表达方式,最后讲述了汉语和阿拉伯语当中不礼貌语言现象。希望本论文能够使中国人理解阿拉伯文化,并积极了解这种文化的差异,也希望本文使在中国的阿拉伯人能理解并尊重中国人的思想和文化,相互彼此了解对方的礼貌。

SemSignWriting: A Proposed Semantic System for Arabic Text-to-SignWriting Translation

Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) is the native language for the Arab deaf community. ArSL allows deaf people to communicate among themselves and with non-deaf people around them to express their needs, thoughts and feelings. Opposite to spoken languages, Sign Language (SL) depends on hands and facial expression to express the thought instead of sounds. In recent years, interest in translating sign language automatically for different languages has increased. However, a small set of these works are specialized in ArSL. Basically, these works translate word by word without taking care of the semantics of the translated sentence or the translation rules of Arabic text to Arabic sign language. In this paper we present a proposed system for semantically translating Arabic text to Arabic SignWriting in the jurisprudence of prayer domain. The system is designed to translate Arabic text by applying Arabic Sign Language (ArSL) grammatical rules as well as semantically looking up the words in domain ontology. The results of qualitatively evaluating the system based on a SignWriting expert judgment proved the correctness of the translation results.

Loranthus europaeus (LE) is a well-known medical plant that has been used as a folk medicine for long time ago. Recently many different researches have shown that it contains many bioactive compounds like: flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoides, phenolic acids and others. Cutaneous Leishmaniasisis (CL) is an endemic disease in Iraq since ancient time and now it is running major outbreaks. There are many modalities of treatments but researchers are always seeking for new treatments. Most recently Loranthus europaeus has been tried in treatment of CL in a form of 40% ointment and gives a very encouraging result when compared with other standard treatments.

Prophylaxis of Postoperative Acute Endopthalmitis Following Cataract Surgery

Background: Postoperative Endophthalmitis is a rare complication after intraocular surgeries. However, it remains one of the most devastating complications following cataract surgery because of its poor prognosis. We describe the effects of antibiotic prophylaxis on the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis after cataract surgery, particularly phacoemulsification. Aim of the work: To identify risk factors of acute endophthalmitis and describe the effects of antibiotic prophylaxis on the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis after phacoemulsification surgery. Methods: A prospective randomized cataract surgery study recruited 300 patients;150 patients who received just intracameral vigamox at the end of surgery without topical antibiotics before surgery and 150 patients who received both intracameral vigamoxas well as topical perioperative vigamox which either just half an hour before surgery or three days preceding surgery. We took a conjunctival swab before and after vigamox administration in order to detect the type of conjunctival flora in the Libyan population as well as the effect of the vigamox on the conjunctival flora by using Phoenix-BD machine. In total we collected 166 specimens (83 patients). Results: In all groups no acute post-operative endophthalmitis was reported. Conclusions: The study was based on intracameral Moxifloxacin at the end of surgery with and without topical antibiotics drops administration. The incidence of postcataract endophthalmitis was not reported in our study after using intracameral antibiotics, as it seems to be effective in preventing endophthalmitis after cataract surgery.
