Objective:To investigate the levels of serum Cortisol in patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum(***) malaria in an area of unstable malaria transmission in eastern Sudan. Methods:The concentrations of Cortisol were measured in sera of 25 patients with uncomplicated *** malaria(at presentation,24 h and 7 d later) and 25 healthy volunteers using radioimmunoassay gamma ***:There was no significant difference in mean(SD) of total Cortisol levels in patients with malaria in comparison with the control group;602.2(369.6) vs. 449.2(311.7) ng/mL,P=*** patients with uncomplicated *** malaria,the mean(SD) presenting Cortisol levels were significantly higher in comparison to the levels on day 7;602.2 (369.6) vs.373.6(139.1) ng/mL,P=*** the patients with uncomplicated *** malaria (on presentation) Cortisol levels were not correlated with initial temperature or the presenting ***:Thus,Cortisol levels were not significantly different between the patients and the controls.

A chemically prepared carbon was synthesized from date palm leaflets via sulphuric acid carbonization at 160℃. Adsorption of ciprofloxacin （CIP） from aqueous solution was investigated in terms of time, pH, concentration, temperature and adsorbent status （wet and dry）. The equilibrium time was found to be 48 hr. The adsorption rate was enhanced by raising the temperature for both adsorbents, with adsorption data fitting a pseudo second-order model well. The activation energy, ea, was found to be 17 kJ/mol, indicating a diffusion-controlled, physical adsorption process. The maximum adsorption was found at initial pH 6. The wet adsorbent showed faster removal with higher uptake than the dry adsorbent, with increased performance as temperature increased （25--45℃）. The equilibrium data were found to fit the Langmuir model better than the Freundlich model. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic. The adsorption mechanism is mainly related to cation exchange and hydrogen bonding.

The elevated presence of metal(loid)s in the environment significantly impacts ecosystems and human health and is generally largely due to industrial and mining ***,in the current study,we investigated and proposed an environmentally friendly method(phytomanagement)aimed at reducing the negative impacts associated with metal(loid)pollution through the use of soil amendments(biochar and compost)to permit Ailanthus altissima growth on a highly contaminated mining Technosol,with arsenic(As)and lead(Pb)contents of 539.06 and 11453 mg kg^(-1),*** objective was to examine the impacts of three biochars and compost on i)the physicochemical characteristics of soil,ii)metal(loid)immobilization in soil,and iii)*** *** revealed that the application of biochar as a soil amendment improved soil conditions by increasing soil electrical conductivity,pH,and water-holding ***,concomitantly,we observed a large reduction(99%)in Pb mobility and availability following application of the hardwood biochar in combination with compost(HBCP).Thus,this combined soil amendment was most effective in promoting *** *** addition,the HBCP treatment prevented As translocation in the upper parts of plants,although soil pore water As concentration was not diminished by amendment application.

Background:Diabetes and hypertension have been identified as risk factors for HCV complications in previous *** has sparked the interest in the field of prevention by identifying at-risk individuals and increasing investments for screening among *** aim of this study was to screen for risk factors,including age,gender,BMI,hypertension,diabetes,and obesity,in Egyptian patients with HCV Methods:A prospective cross-sectional study was carried out from September 2018 to February 2019,with a total of 1,959 medical records *** comparing the patients'characteristics,variables related to metabolic risk,and body composition measurements,regression models have been established to determine any confounding ***:The prevalence of HCV antibody was 41.0%in men and 59.0%in *** the variables included in the regression analysis,age,BMI,and uncontrolled hypertension were found to have statistically significant associations with diabetes in HCV positive cases(p40 years old with high BMI were found to have significant associations with both,diabetes and hypertension(p40,and DM(p<0.001).Conclusion:HCV infection and metabolic disorders have a closed cycle *** the complications of DM has a promising prospective of limiting the complications of HCV .

In this work, we had adopted solid states reaction kinetic model to calculate diffusion coefficient of graphite Gr in Gum Arabic (GA) as the function of temperatures and concentration? D(t, C). From the calculations we have found that the diffusion coefficient D increases with increasing temperature. At higher temperature the Gr atoms might get enough thermal energy to overcome the activation energy (ea) barrier and hence can easily be transported to a new atomic position. Diffusion coefficient of Gr at high concentrations had exceeded that at low concentrations by more than two to three orders of magnitude. Such increase can be attributed to the large number of jumps or jump frequency which found to be directly proportion to the Gr concentration. Electric conductivity, calculated by Nernst-Einstein equation, at high concentration Gr had exceeded that at lower concentration. The decrease in conductivity with decreasing Gr concentration might be attributed to the effective charges interactions, which lead to enhance the recombination of charge carriers.

Cytosine Deaminase (CD) from Aspergillus parasiticus was purified and characterized. Time course for maximal CD production (50 μmol/min/mg) was at 72 hrs. The enzyme was purified 387.73 folds with an overall yield of 13%. The CD had pH optimum of 7.2, a temperature optimum of 40℃ - 45℃, activation of energy (ea) of 8.4 KJ/mol and a t1/2 of 1.10 hr. A. parasiticus CD stoichiometrically deaminated Cyto-sine and 5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) with the KM values of 0.19mM and 0.30 mM respectively. Studies on the effect of pH on KM and Vmax gave pKa1 of 5.8 and pKa2 of 6.3 with enthalpy of ionization of 43.01 KJ/mole suggesting histidine in the active site. The enzyme was strongly inhibited by Ca2+, Co2+, Zn2+ and Hg2+ and completely inhibited by Cu2+ and Fe2+ at 50 mM. Therefore, A. parasiticus CD can be compared with CDs from other sources that are used in suicide gene therapy.

The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is a fundamental part of the immune system in nearly all vertebrates. DQA2 is a member of the MHC complex and an important candidate gene involved in susceptibility/resistance to various diseases. Therefore, the present study aimed at investigating computationally molecular genetic variation of DQA2 gene of cattle, sheep and goats especially on its evolution and differentiation within and among species as well as the attendant effects of the polymorphism on the function of DQA2 gene. A total of thirty three DQA2 nucleotide sequences comprising cattle (10), sheep (12) and goats (11) were retrieved from the GenBank. Forty seven amino acid substitutions of the wild type alleles located in the putative peptide coding region of caprine DQA2 alleles were obtained from the alignment of deduced amino acid sequences of goats. Out of these, eleven amino acid substitutions (H14L, H14R, L34M, E35L, G56S, G56R, 161V, A62E, D69Q, T72N and T72G) were returned neutral;an indication that they did not impair protein function. The Expected Accuracy (ea) ranged from 53% - 87%. For sheep, sixteen amino acid substitutions (A11P, A11T, A11G, A11M, L14S, L14T, V27L, V27S, G35S, S46T, D55E, L57T, L57A, L57G, K65Q and V68I) appeared beneficial while the rest forty seven appeared harmful (ea ranged from 53% - 93%). Twenty four amino acid substitutions did not impair the function of protein while seventy seven substitutions appeared to have a negative effect on the function of protein of cattle (ea ranged from 53% - 94%). The phylogeny based on nucleotide and amino acid sequences of DQA2 gene revealed the close relatedness of the caprine, ovine and bovine species. The present knowledge would be relevant for performing further genotype-phenotype research as well as pharmacogenetics studies in order to show association between caprine, ovine and bovine DQA2 allelic variation and the clinical progression of infectious diseases especially in a developing

BACKGROUND Chronic hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)infections are known risk factors for liver disease,cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).There is substantial global variation in HBV and HCV prevalence resulting in variations in cirrhosis and *** previously reported high prevalence of HBV and HCV infections in Somali immigrants seen at an academic medical center in *** To determine the prevalence of chronic viral hepatitis in Somali immigrants in Minnesota through a community-based screening *** We conducted a prospective community-based participatory research study in the Somali community in Minnesota in partnership with community advisory boards,community clinics and local mosques between November 2010 and December 2015(data was analyzed in 2020).Serum was tested for hepatitis B surface antigen,hepatitis B core antibody,hepatitis B surface antibody and anti-HCV *** Of 779 participants,15.4%tested positive for chronic HBV infection,50.2%for prior exposure to HBV and 7.6%for chronic HCV *** age-adjusted frequencies in males and females for chronic HBV were 12.5%and 11.6%;for prior exposure to HBV were 44.8%and 41.3%;and for chronic HCV were 6.7%and 5.7%,*** participants developed incident HCC during follow *** Chronic HBV and HCV are major risk factors for liver disease and HCC among Somali immigrants,with prevalence of both infections substantially higher than in the general United States ***-based screening is essential for identifying and providing health education and linkage to care for diagnosed patients.
