Cobalt-boride(Co-B)is emerging as one of the promising materials in the base-hydrolytic dehydrogena-tion of ammonia-borane(AB).In order to avoid the low specific area and poor catalytic capacity of Co-B catalyst caused by aggregation arising from the strong reducing property and rapid reaction condensation of sodium borohy-dride(NaBHa),novel cobalt boride/cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(Co-B/CTAB)catalyst was obtained via solid-state grinding at room temperature,and the catalyst was further characterized by XRD,SEM,XPS and *** hydrogen generation rate(HGR)was then determined by the hydrolysis reaction of *** SEM images indicate that a lot of irregular folds and curled edges are formed on the sample with a maximum surface area of 145.57 m2/g,thus possibly resulting in the high hydrogen production(HGR was 10.68 ***),which may be attributed to CTAB that provide favorable large specific surface area and abundant porous ***,catalyst will not be affected by solvants during solid-state *** a diluent,the surfactant CTAB hindered the reaction rate of sodium borohydride reduction to cobalt boride and obtained the novel catalyst with a large specific surface area.

Pattern and Trends in the Presentation of Salivary Gland Tumours in a Tertiary Centre in Gombe, Northeast Nigeria

Background: Salivary gland tumours (SGTs) are rare, but recent reports suggest an increasing incidence. Although there are previous Nigerian studies on the patterns of SGTs, patterns and trends of disease may change over time. The aim of this study was to describe the pattern of presentation of SGTs, and to determine the trends in occurrence of SGTs at Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe over a period of 15 years. Method: This descriptive study included cases of histologically diagnosed SGTs from January 2008 to December 2022. Relevant information (age, gender, site, year of diagnosis, and histopathologic diagnosis) was extracted from the cancer registers and histopathologic records. The lesions were then categorized into benign and malignant SGTs and grouped into three groups spanning 5 years each based on the year of diagnosis. Data analysis was done using IBM SPSS version 23, and p ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: There were 93 (61.2%) benign and 59 (38.8%) malignant SGTs. Benign SGTs had a mean age of 36.4 ± 13.6 years, and were more common in females (57.0%), and in the parotid (41.9%). Pleomorphic adenoma (94.6%) was the most common benign SGT. Malignant SGTs had a mean age of 44.5 ± 18.4 years, with male predilection (54.2%) and occurrence mostly in the palate (27.6%) and parotid (22.4%). Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (39.0%) and adenoid cystic carcinoma (32.2%) were the most frequent malignant SGTs. The mean age of occurrence of malignant SGTs was significantly higher than that of benign SGTs (p = 0.005). The trend analysis showed that there has been a steady rise in the proportion of males presenting with malignant SGTs. Similarly, there has been a steady increase in the frequency of benign SGTs in the parotid. The palate was the predominant site for the malignant SGTs between 2008 and 2012, but in the last five years (2018 to 2022), the parotid has become the predominant site. Charge density wave(CDW)is a phenomenon that occurs in materials,accompanied by changes in their intrinsic electronic *** study of CDW and its modulation in materials holds tremendous significance in materials research,as it provides a unique approach to controlling the electronic properties of ***_(2) is a typical layered material with a CDW phase at low *** V substitution for Ti in TiSe_(2),we tuned the carrier concentration in V_(x)Ti_(1-x)Se_(2) to study how its electronic structures ***-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)shows that the band-folding effect is sustained with the doping level up to 10%,indicating the persistence of the CDW phase,even though the band structure is strikingly different from that of the parent compound TiSe_(2).Though CDW can induce the band fold effect with a driving force from the perspective of electronic systems,our studies suggest that this behavior could be maintained by lattice distortion of the CDW phase,even if band structures deviate from the electron-driven CDW *** work provides a constraint for understanding the CDW mechanism in TiSe_(2),and highlights the role of lattice distortion in the band-folding effect.

L-Arginine Supplementation Mitigates Dichlorvos-Induced Haematocardiotoxicity, and Oxidative Stress in Male Wistar Rats

Due to its toxicity, dichlorvos—a common organophosphate pesticide—poses significant risks to human health. This study utilized male Wistar rats to explore the potential protective effects of L-arginine supplementation against dichlorvos-induced toxicity, focusing on cardiotoxicity, haematotoxicity and oxidative stress. The rats were divided into four groups: Control, L-arginine (L), Dichlorvos (D), and L-arginine + Dichlorvos (L + D). Dichlorvos was administered to the D group, L-arginine (100 mg/kg) to the L group, and both L-arginine and dichlorvos to the L + D group. The study evaluated various parameters, including cardiovascular, oxidative stress markers, and haematological indices. Significant changes in haematological parameters such as haemoglobin (Hb), haematocrit (HCT), and red blood cell count (RBC) indicated haematotoxicity after dichlorvos administration. Additionally, elevated cardiac markers, including lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), suggested cardiotoxic effects. Exposure to dichlorvos also resulted in decreased antioxidant enzyme levels and increased oxidative stress indicators like malondialdehyde (MDA). Remarkably, L-arginine supplementation mitigated the damage caused by dichlorvos. It normalized the altered haematological parameters, demonstrating its protective effect against haematotoxicity. The rise in cardiac markers was reduced with L-arginine supplementation, indicating protection against cardiotoxicity. Moreover, L-arginine significantly decreased oxidative stress, as evidenced by lower MDA levels and restored antioxidant enzyme activity. In conclusion, L-arginine supplementation in male Wistar rats showed promising protective effects against dichlorvos-induced cardiotoxicity, haematotoxicity and oxidative stress. This suggests that L-arginine may offer a beneficial intervention to mitigate the adverse effects of dichlorvos on blood and heart health, paving the way for potential treatments for pesticide poison

Establishing a person’s identity is important for both legal and humanitarian *** determination is a key characteristic used in the identification of a deceased *** aim of this study was to determine sex by using mandibular canines among individuals in the Northeastern Nigerian *** hundred and eight individuals(102 men and 106 women)participated in this *** mesiodistal widths of the mandibular canines and intercanine distances were measured using a vernier caliper and a ***‑wise logistic regression analyses were used to determine sex based on mandibular *** participants had significantly higher mandibular mesiodistal width than female ***,the canine index was significantly higher in male participants than in female *** mesiodistal width of the left mandibular canine exhibited the highest sexual dimorphism(9.78%)and was the best characteristic for use in determining sex,with an accuracy of 75%.Among the Northwestern Nigerian population,sex can be most accurately determined using the mesiodistal width of the left mandibular canine.

The Pragmatics of the Rhetorical Question in Selected(English)Qur’an Chapters

This paper interrogates the pragmatic choice of the rhetorical question(RQ)as a linguistic resource in some disputational discourse in the verses of the English translated Qur’*** argues that the choice of this sentence-type not only puts the speaker in a position of control in powerful assertion of facts,but also strengthens the pragmatic acts in the context to be more *** Mey’s(2001)Pragmatic Acts theory and Caponigro and Sprouse’s(2007)Concept of Common Ground,the paper does a close reading of the last forty Quranic chapters for a critical analysis and finds that RQ accounts for 15%(61)of the 410 verses in the seventeen(17)chapters that have RQs out of the last forty chapters *** find that the Authorial Voice in the Qur’an employs the RQ as an argumentative strategy to perform the pragmatic acts of challenging,inviting,affirming,reminding,reinforcing,assuring,appealing,and warning in series of intellectual engagements with the addressees in order to put them in a reflective *** is concluded that the RQ is an effective,dialogic,evidence-gathering,change-seeking pragmatic tool for securing improved attitude and ideological understanding from the *** are sought after to be convinced by the Speaker in a dialogue,and then left alone to decide,which presents the Speaker as One that uses rational argument in the context of disputation to persuade humans in real dialogues so as to seek change.

Taking advantage of the unique layered structure of TiSe2,the intrinsic electronic properties of two-dimensional materials can easily be tuned via heteroatomic ***,we show that the charge density wave(CDW)phase in 1T-TiSe_(2) single-crystals can be gradually suppressed through Sn atoms *** angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES)and temperature-dependent resistivity measurements,this work reveals that Sn atoms can induce charge doping and modulate the intrinsic electronic properties in the host 1T-TiSe_(2).Notably,our temperature-dependent ARPES results highlight the role exciton-phonon interaction and the Jahn-Teller mechanism through the formation of backfolded bands and exhibition of a downward Se shift of 4p valence band in the formation of CDW in this material.
