Toward an operating speed profile model for rural two-lane roads in Egypt

The geometric design, especially the horizontal and vertical alignments, of rural two-lane highway facilities is considered one of the most important factors affecting the quality of traffic service and safety. A consistent highway geometric design is defined to be one that conforms to the driver＇s expectations. In order to calculate the main measures of design consistency, an accurate operating speed profile model for road alignment is needed. Studies have shown that operating speed models are country dependent due to varying demographics, driver attitudes, habits, etc. This paper develops a speed profile model for two-lane rural roads in Egypt. This includes the development of operating speed models for horizontal curves and tangents, as well as the study of the characteristics and relationships between acceleration and deceleration rates before and after horizontal curves. The study uses a desert rural two-lane, two-way road sections that connect the city of Sohag with the city of hurghada, in Upper Egypt. All geometric characteristics were obtained from high- way authority. Speed data regarding individual drivers traveling on selected two-lane rural road sections were sampled using an on-board GPS system. The study confirms the finding in previous research that curvature is the most important factor in determining the speed on horizontal curves. Moreover, tangent length is the most important factor in determining operating speeds at tangents. The acceleration and deceleration characteristics were derived to gain an understanding of the behavior of individual vehicles traveling through curves of varying radii and lengths as well as preceding tangent length. Several operating speed models were developed for tangents and curves as well as for acceleration and deceleration rates. Incredibly effective, these models can be used for design consistency evaluations.

Effect of speed hump characteristics on pavement condition

Speed humps are the most common type of traffic calming devices due to their low cost and easy installation. however, in many Egyptian roads, considerable number of these humps is randomly placed without proper engineering studies and justifications. Deteri- oration of pavement condition is observed near these humps. This paper presents a case study applied to collect and analyze visual inspection data for the reason of evaluating the impact of speed humps on pavement condition on intercity rural roads. The paper used 52 speed humps located in an intercity two-lane, two-way road that connects two cities, Tahta and Gerga, in Upper Egypt. The total length of this road is about 34 km. Pavement condition index （PCI）, in road sections, near speed humps in the two directions of travel were calculated from the visual inspection measurements. The characteristics of each speed hump （width, height, and distance from preceding hump） were measured. Using statistical analyses, the correlations between the pavement conditions and hump char- acteristics were examined. Regression analysis models were developed to represent the relationships between pavement conditions and hump characteristics. Generally, the re- sults proved that the pavement conditions are greatly influenced by the presence of speed humps and hump characteristics.

通行能力预测是公路设施规划、设计与运营中的基础环节.本文基于埃及曼努菲亚省12条农村双车道路段数据,研究了公路线形等几何特征对通行能力的影响以及线形由切线变为平曲线时通行能力的损失.所选取的路段线形包括直线和随后的平曲线.同时,采集了各路段上车流量及速度数据,利用基于基本图的外推法研究流量和密度关系.路段上不同车型的车辆均转换为小客车当量.此外,针对不同情形(切线、平曲线及对应流量损失),分别建立了最佳回归模型.结果表明,切线型道路的关键自变量是路宽、肩宽以及切线长;平曲线道路的关键变量是曲线半径和路宽.通行能力和几何特征关系最佳模型的自变量为曲线半径.本文的模型可用于分析评价农村双车道道路的通行能力,尤其是评价文中所研究路段的通行能力.

Deep learning(DL)algorithms have been widely used in various security applications to enhance the performances of decision-based *** data added by an attacker can cause several security and privacy problems in the operation of DL *** two most common active attacks are poisoning and evasion attacks,which can cause various problems,including wrong prediction and misclassification of decision-based ***,to design an efficient DL model,it is crucial to mitigate these *** this regard,this study proposes a secure neural network(NN)model that provides data security during model training and testing *** main idea is to use cryptographic functions,such as hash function(ShA512)and homomorphic encryption(hE)scheme,to provide authenticity,integrity,and confidentiality of *** performance of the proposed model is evaluated by experiments based on accuracy,precision,attack detection rate(ADR),and computational *** results show that the proposed model has achieved an accuracy of 98%,a precision of 0.97,and an ADR of 98%,even for a large number of ***,the proposed model can be used to detect attacks and mitigate the attacker *** results also show that the computational cost of the proposed model does not increase with model complexity.

Phytocompounds of Anonna muricata leaves extract and cytotoxic effects on breast cancer cells

Objective: To identify the phytochemical compounds from Annona muricata(A. muricata) and to determine their in vitro anti-proliferative activities against breast cancer cells, MCF7 and MDA-MB-231. Methods: A. muricata leaves were successively extracted by soxhlet method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol, and decocted with water. Each extract was analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GCMS) and characterized with Wiley and NIST library searches. Anti-proliferative activity of each extract was evaluated on MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells using MTT assay. Results: The GCMS analysis of different solvent extracts of A. muricata leaves showed presence of different chemical groups of compounds such as steroids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, sugars, sugars alcohol and others including vitamin E. Ethyl acetate leaves extract exhibited the lowest IC_(50) value on the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell and n-hexane leaves extract showed the the lowest IC_(50) value on the MCF-7 breast cancer cell. Conclusion: Steroids and phenolic compounds were the main phytocompound groups identified from all A. muricata leaves extracts. The antiproliferative activity of n-hexane and ethyl acetate extract towards breast cancer MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 respectively might be due to the presence of biologically active compounds in the extracts, hence, providing some scientific evidences of the effectiveness of its traditional usages.

Evaluation of Renal Disorders in Type 2 Diabetic Patients Using Ultrsonography

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM) is one of the common epidemics worldwide. The prevalence of type 2 DM is high among Saudi population. Renal affection by DM is in the form of nephropathy that may end in the end stage of renal disease (ESRD) and renal failure warrants chronic dialysis or renal transplantation. Renal Ultrasonography (US) is a simple, accurate, affordable and non-invasive test that can help in management of type 2 DM patients who have renal affection. Four hundred patients, aged from 13 - 93 years with type 2 DM were recruited from the outpatient internal and family medicine clinics at KAUh. Renal US was requested for 202 patients, and was done at the diagnostic radiology department using digital iU22 Philips machine with 3.5 - 5 Mhz convex array transducer. The renal size, parenchymal echogenicity and associated renal pathologies e.g. stones, cysts or masses were evaluated. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS program version 16. Most cases showed normal renal size and echogenicity. Grade one nephropathy was more than grade two or three. Nephropathy was non-significantly correlated to the patients’ gender, but to their age. Increased patients’ age was associated with increased renal echogenicity. Non-diabetes-related renal abnormalities were detected in 39% of patients. The most common of non-diabetes-related renal abnormalities was simple renal cyst followed by renal stones (25% and 23%) respectively. Renal US for patients with type 2 DM has a great role in diagnosing and grading diabetic nephropathy, selecting cases with non-diabetic nephropathy for renal biopsy, and detecting associated renal abnormalities. Due to the high prevalence of DM in Saudi Arabia, we recommend future expanding study of the underlying possible genetic relation between DM and renal cysts and also the relation between renal stones and type 2 DM.

Volumetric Assessment of Corticospinal Tract Infiltration by Astrocytoma Using Diffusion Tensor Tractography

Objectives: The aim of the study is to assess volumetric Corticospinal Tract infiltration by Astro-cytoma using Diffusion Tensor Tractography. Material and Methods: Preoperative, anatomic (T1- and T2-weighted) and diffusion tensor MRI were performed in 9 patients with supratentorial gliomas (WhO grade II and III). The tumors were manually segmented from the T1- and T2-weighted MRI, and their volume calculated. A three-dimensional tractography was performed in each case. A second segmentation and volume measurement was performed on the tumor regions intersecting adjacent white matter fiber tracts. Results: We identified that white matter tracts were infiltrated by 6 Astrocytoma tumors. The median tumor volume (±standard deviation) in our patient population was 33 ± 26.82 ml. The median tumor volume (±standard deviation) infiltrating white matter fiber tracts was 4.15 ± 9.23 ml. The median fraction of tumor volume infiltrating white matter fiber tracts was 26.3% ± 10.1%. Conclusions: Diffusion tensor MR Tractography is a reliable preoperative assessment tool since it detects extensive white matter infiltration by Astrocytoma irrespective of brain tumors volume. Recommendations: Prospective large population studies are required to clarify how infiltration relates to tumor location.

Relation between Carotid Artery Plaques Characteristics as a Predictor of haemodynamics Changes after Carotid Artery Stenting

Objectives: To study relationship between carotid artery plaques characteristics and haemodynamic changes after carotid stenting. Patients and Methods: This observational prospective (pilot) study included 20 patients—who underwent CAS. The study was carried out in Ain shams university hospitals—Railway hospital (ERMED) and Suez insurance hospital from December 2018 to February 2020. Inclusion criteria, Symptomatic (defined as amaurosis fugax, TIA, Minor stroke or Major stroke) stenosis > 70%. Asymptomatic stenosis > 80% (accidentally discovered during pre-operative assessment for CABG and during full assessment for irrelevant stroke). Results: Regarding to plaque character for degree of stenosis, calcification and ulceration revealed significantly higher degree of stenosis in hemodynamic events group (P = 0.024). On the other hand, that there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups as regard calcification, ulceration and lesion location. Conclusion: The study revealed that HI is a common occurrence following CAS procedures and significantly higher degree of stenosis in hemodynamic events group. Plaque shape, ulcerations hardly affect haeodynamic instability after carotid stenting.
