Geochemistry and spectrometric prospection of younger granites and granitic pegmatites bearing uranium mineralization at G.Kab El Rakeb area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt

The present study deals with the detailed field geology,mineralogy,geochemistry,and spectrometric prospection of rare metals and radioactive minerals associated with granitic pegmatites in the Gabal Um LassafAbu Dob-Um Atelia-Kadabora-Kab El Rakeb area(LDAKK),which are situated in the central Eastern Desert of Egypt.The study area is composed of granodiorites and monzogranites.The latter is dissected by granitic pegmatites with a discriminatory distribution of economically important mineralization(rare-metals and U-Th minerals).The granitic pegmatites display a zoning structure composed of feldspar-rich zones enveloping pockets of mica(mostly muscovite) and all zoning internal quartz core.Microscopically,the monzogranite and granitic pegmatites are composed of potash-feldspar,albite,and quartz with a small amount of biotite and muscovite.The mineralogical investigation of the highly radioactive zones in the granitic pegmatite shows enrichment in kasolite,uranothorite,thorite,xenotime,columbite,zircon,bismuth,and galena.Geochemically,the granitic pegmatites are enriched with high field strength elements(HFSE;Zr,Nb,Th,and U) and ion lithophilic elements(LILE;Rb,and Pb) and depleted in ba,Sr,and Eu.They are strongly peralkaline to metalumainous except for two samples,which are peraluminous.They are formed by partial melting of metagreywackes at depth.The studied granitic pegmatites could belong to the NYF family(Niobium-Yttrium-Fluorine family) according to the geochemistry of the trace elements.The studied granitic pegmatites show deep negative Eu anomaly and display a strong M-type tetrad effect of rare earth elements.The field spectroscopy measurements showed the localization of the radiometric anomalous associated with the granitic pegmatites,which are intruded in the granitic host rocks.Their eU and eTh contents reached up to 316 and 1367 ppm,respectively.Uranium and thorium occurrences in the investigated granitic pegmatites are related to magmatic(syngenetic)origin with hydrothermal(epigenetic) input.The magm

The possible source of uranium mineralization in felsic volcanic rocks,Eastern Desert,Egypt of the Arabian-Nubian Shield:Constraints from whole-rock geochemistry and spectrometric prospection

The present work deals with the detailed geology,mineralogy,geochemistry,and spectrometric prospection of the felsic volcanic rocks at the Eastern Desert,Egypt of the Arabian-Nubian Shield.Felsic volcanic rocks are an essential source for rare earth elements(REEs)and uranium occurrences in this area.They are compositionally uniform with tholeiitic to calc-alkaline affinities,peraluminous and belong to the series of rhyolite with high-K melt.They exhibit more enrichment in high field strength elements(HFSE,e.g.Zr,Ta,Nd,Th,and U)and large-ion lithophile elements(LILE,e.g.Pb and Rb)compared to the country rocks of the studied area,with REE ranging from 188.20 to 442.70 ppm and strong depletion in Ti,Sr,P with deep negative Eu oddities.The felsic volcanic rocks were mostly generated from the partial melting of quartz-amphibolite facies accreted during the Neoproterozoic.Positive oddities of Zr-U-Th for the felsic volcanic rocks determine the involvement of crustal materials.Felsic volcanic rocks are found in A-type suites of magma and represent highly fractionated rocks derived from rhyolitic magma,with insignificant interaction with continental crust in the low-pressure environment and during fractional crystallization.Felsic volcanic rocks have higher values of radioactivity in which eU range from 0.5 to 121 ppm and eTh from 1.0 to 415.10 ppm.The high values of eU and eTh can be ascribed to the mineralization of uranium and the presence of accessory minerals of radiogenic nature such as uranophane,uranothorite,zircon,and monazite.Uranophane is considered as the mineral with most enriched uranium contents in the studied felsic volcanic rocks in which(UO2=87.30 wt%).Also,they are enriched with REE-bearing accessory minerals comprising allanite,titanite,and apatite.The geological investigations of the felsic volcanic rocks in the studied areas are inappropriate to clear the feasible economic potentialities of rare earth elements and U occurrences;itemized and invaluable explorational work is as yet needed.Whilst,the e

Chronic Subdural Hematoma Associated with an Arachnoid Cyst in Elderly, an Intraoperative Finding after Re-bleeding: Case Report

Intracranial arachnoid cysts (AC) are believed to be congenital and chronic subdural hematomas tend to occur in elderly patients with a history of mild head injury. The association between these two entities sporadically occur in relatively young patients but rare in elderly patients. We report a 65-year-old man who presented with headache and dizziness of 2 months’ duration with a history of head injury. brain computed tomography (CT) a CSDH in right side and a hygroma in left side. After first operation with burr holes in both sides, the patient underwent an early recurrence of acute subdural hematoma in the right side. The evacuation of this hematoma by a craniotomy allowed seeing an AC that we resected partially with complete recovery of the patient. The association CSDH/AC is rare and possible in elderly patients and there is no consensus on treatment.

Impact of direct-acting antiviral regimens on hepatic and extrahepatic manifestations of hepatitis C virus infection

Hepatitis C virus(HCV)is a common cause of liver disease and is associated with various extrahepatic manifestations(EHMs).This mini-review outlines the currently available treatments for HCV infection and their prognostic effect on hepatic manifestations and EHMs.Direct-acting antiviral(DAA)regimens are considered pan-genotypic as they achieve a sustained virological response(SVR)>85%after 12 wk through all the major HCV genotypes,with high percentages of SVR even in advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis.The risk factors for DAA failure include old males,cirrhosis,and the presence of resistance-associated substitutions(RAS)in the region targeted by the received DAAs.The effectiveness of DAA regimens is reduced in HCV genotype 3 with baseline RAS like A30K,Y93H,and P53del.Moreover,the European Association for the Study of the Liver recommended the identification of baseline RAS for HCV genotype 1a.The higher rate of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)after DAA therapy may be related to the fact that DAA regimens are offered to patients with advanced liver fibrosis and cirrhosis,where interferon was contraindicated to those patients.The change in the growth of pre-existing subclinical,undetectable HCC upon DAA treatment might be also a cause.Furthermore,after DAA therapy,the T cell-dependent immune response is much weaker upon HCV clearance,and the down-regulation of TNF-αor the elevated neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio might increase the risk of HCC.DAAs can result in reactivation of hepatitis b virus(HbV)in HCV coinfected patients.DAAs are effective in treating HCV-associated mixed cryoglobulinemia,with clinical and immunological responses,and have rapid and high effectiveness in thrombocytopenia.DAAs improve insulin resistance in 90%of patients,increase glomerular filtration rate,and decrease proteinuria,hematuria and articular manifestations.HCV clearance by DAAs allows a significant improvement in atherosclerosis and metabolic and immunological conditions,with a reduction of major cardiovascular events.They also improve phy

Incidence and risk factors of post-phototherapy neonatal rebound hyperbilirubinemia

background To determine the incidence and risk factors of post-phototherapy rebound hyperbilirubinemia because data about bilirubin rebound in neonates are lacking and few studies have concerned this condition. Methods A prospective observational study was conducted on 500 neonates with indirect hyperbilirubinemia who were treated according to standard guidelines. Total serum bilirubin (TSb) was measured at 24–36 h after phototherapy;significant bilirubin rebound (SbR) is considered as increasing TSb that needs reinstitution of phototherapy. Results A total of 124 (24.9%) neonates developed SbR with TSb increased by 3.4 (2.4–11.2) mg/dL after stopping pho-totherapy. Multiple logistic regression model revealed the following significant risk factors for rebound: low birth weight (b = 1.3,P b = 2.5,P b = 0.83, P= 0.03, OR 2.3), hemolysis (b = 1.2,P bilirubin level (b = 0.3,P = 0.001, OR 1.3), and short duration of conventional phototherapy (b = ? 1.2,P bR should be considered in neonates with hemolysis, low birth weight, suspected sepsis, short duration of conventional phototherapy, exposure to intensive phototherapy, and relatively high discharge TSb. These risk factors should be taken into account when planning post-phototherapy follow-up.

The non-classical properties of light propagating in four-channel Kerr waveguides, confined in an optical cavity, are studied. The solution to the Hamiltonian of field operators is obtained semi-analytically by using symmetrically ordered phase-space representation. Full quantum analysis of the input coherent fields displays a strong transition of photon property between the super-Poissonian and sub-Poissonian statistics. It is found that the cavity-assisted multichannel system exhibits enhanced squeezing both in single-and compound-mode. This multichannel system may be utilized as an efficient quantumlight generator.

Current and novel modalities for management of chronic hepatitis b infection

Over 296 million people are estimated to have chronic hepatitis b viral infection(CHb),and it poses unique challenges for elimination.CHb is the result of hepatitis b virus(HbV)-specific immune tolerance and the presence of covalently closed circular DNA as mini chromosome inside the nucleus and the integrated HbV.Serum hepatitis b core-related antigen is the best surrogate marker for intrahepatic covalently closed circular DNA.Functional HbV“cure”is the durable loss of hepatitis b surface antigen(HbsAg),with or without HbsAg seroconversion and undetectable serum HbV DNA after completing a course of treatment.The currently approved therapies are nucleos(t)ide analogues,interferon-alpha,and pegylated-interferon.With these therapies,functional cure can be achieved inb patients.Any variation to HbV or the host immune system that disrupts the interaction between them can lead to reactivation of HbV.Novel therapies may allow efficient control of CHb.They include direct acting antivirals and immunomodulators.Reduction of the viral antigen load is a crucial factor for success of immune-based therapies.Immunomodulatory therapy may lead to modulation of the host immune system.It may enhance/restore innate immunity against HbV(as toll-like-receptors and cytosolic retinoic acid inducible geneⅠagonist).Others may induce adaptive immunity as checkpoint inhibitors,therapeutic HbV vaccines including protein(HbsAg/pre S and hepatitis b core antigen),monoclonal or bispecific antibodies and genetically engineered T cells to generate chimeric antigen receptor-T or T-cell receptor-T cells and HbV-specific T cells to restore T cell function to efficiently clear HbV.Combined therapy may successfully overcome immune tolerance and lead to HbV control and cure.Immunotherapeutic approaches carry the risk of overshooting immune responses causing uncontrolled liver damage.The safety of any new curative therapies should be measured in relation to the excellent safety of currently approved nucleos(t)ide analogues.Development of novel

Drought stress has become more common in recent years as a result of climate change impacts on the production of banana crops and other fruit trees.The growth and productivity of Musa spp are severely impacted by the gradual degradation of water resources and the erratic distribution pattern of annual precipitation amount.The aim of the work includes increased drought tolerance in light of water scarcity in the world as a result of the bananas’being gluttonous for water needs.This investigation was carried out from 2019 to 2020 to study the effect of potassium silicate on morphological growth and biochemical parameters of Musa acuminata L under drought stress by PEG.As a result,drought stress reduced the morphological characteristics such as shoots number,shoot length,roots number,and survival percentage and biochemical characteristics such as chlorophyll a,b,carotenoids,stomatal status,and RWC.While proline content increased in the leaf of M.acuminata L.Media complemented with K2SiO3(2 to 6 mM)either individually or in combination with PEG led to an improvement in all morphological and biochemical characteristics.The activities of CAT,POD,and PPO enzymes increased significantly compared to control.Furthermore,the lowest PPO,CAT,and POD activity were achieved.Additionally,K2SiO3 treatments under drought stress successfully enhanced the leaf stomatal behavior.Our results suggest that K2SiO3 can help to maintain plant integrity in the tested cultivar under drought stress.

Progressive Characteristics of HIV Infection in the Elderly in the Cohort of the Internal Medicine Department of the Points G University Hospital, bamako. Mali

Few data are available on HIV infection in the elderly and they are an important population in our different cohorts in view of the improvement in the quality of care over the last ten years. Objective: to determine the clinical and immunovirological characteristics as well as the acceptance of antiretroviral drugs in this patient population. This is a cohort study of the files of PLHIV (People living with HIV) aged 50 years or more, followed in the Internal Medicine Department of the Point G University Hospital between January 2007 and December 2012. Results: Out of 161 HIV-infected patients in the cohort, 38 were aged 50 years or older, of whom 11 met the criteria and were included. The median age was 55 years, 90.9% of whom were in the [50 - 59 years] age group, with 63.6% being women (sex ratio = 0.57). At admission, 3 patients (27.3%) had prurigo and 2 (18.2%) had oral-pharyngeal candidiasis. At inclusion, 45.5% of patients were classified as WHO stage 2 and one as WHO stage 4. All were on ARVs, including 10 on 1st line HIV-1 and 1 on HIV-2. On triple therapy, the average weight gain was 5.1 kg at D15 and 6.84 kg at M6. However, at M12 there was a weight loss of 1.04 kg. The mean CD4 T cell gain was +102/mm3 at M6 and +188/mm3 at 12 months. At D0, mean viral load = 565024.75 copies/mm3 [99 - 1100000] in 4/11. At M12, two patients had undetectable viral loads. Conclusion: The prevalence of HIV in elderly subjects is certainly underestimated. Thanks to triple antiretroviral therapy, PLHIV are aging with HIV but screening is not systematically proposed during consultations in elderly subjects. It is necessary to reinforce communication about HIV at all ages.

Determination of a novel ACE inhibitor in the presence of alkaline and oxidative degradation products using smart spectrophotometric and chemometric methods

Simple, accurate, sensitive and validated UV spectrophotometric and chemometric methods were developed for the determination of imidapril hydrochloride （IMD） in the presence of both its alkaline （AKN） and oxidative （OXI） degradation products and in its pharmaceutical formulation. Method A is the fourth derivative spectra （D4） which allows the determination of IMD in the presence of both AKN and OXD, in pure form and in tablets by measuring the peak amplitude at 243.0 nm. Methods b, C and D, manipulating ratio spectra, were also developed. Method b is the double divisor-ratio difference spectrophotometric one （DD-RD） by computing the difference between the amplitudes of IMD ratio spectra at 232 and 256.3 nm. Method C is the double divisor-first derivative of ratio spectra method （DD-DR1） at 243.2 nm, while method D is the mean centering of ratio spectra （MCR） at 288.0 nm. Methods A, b, C and D could successfully determine IMD in a concentration range of 4.0-32.0 mg/mL. Methods E and F are principal component regression （PCR） and partial least-squares （PLS）, respectively, for the simultaneous determination of IMD in the presence of both AKN and OXI, in pure form and in its tablets. The developed methods have the advantage of simultaneous determination of the cited components without any pre-treatment. The accuracy, precision and linearity ranges of the developed methods were determined. The results obtained were statistically compared with those of a reported HPLC method, and there was no significant difference between the proposed methods and the reported method regarding both accuracy and precision.
