Two quantitative displacement criteria for slope deformation were deduced through the combination of a onedimensional renormalization group model and the strain-softening constitutive model of geological *** criteria can be used to understand the mechanical process from the onset of the accelerating creep on a slope,through brittle rupture,to the final failure and *** study showed that according to the first criterion,the displacement ratio between the brittle rupture and the onset of the accelerating creep is approximately 1.48,which can be used to predict the brittle rupture of a slope with continuous progressive *** second displacement criterion shows that the displacement ratio between the final failure and the onset of the accelerating creep is approximately 2.59,which can be used to predict the occurrence of the ultimate ***,the critical displacement prior to the failure of the slope can be predicted using a time series of monitoring displacement *** methodology proposed in this study was validated using data from two well-known landslides,the Vajont landslide in Italy and the Xintan landslide in *** results verify the applicability of this method.

The largest coal bunker in China will be built in the Dong Loutian loess region to store coal,and the long V-shaped loess slope of the bunker,more than 60 m in depth,will be *** finite element method of numerical simulation is applied(using linear elastic and hardening soil models) to simulate stability of the excavation slope and deformation with and without reinforcement,with a view to predict the deformation trend,design the reinforcement scheme,decrease the unrealistically large heave at the base of excavation and horizontal displacement of the excavation slope,and ensure the safety of the *** simulation results show that the stress field redistributes after excavation and reinforcement,and the horizontal displacement of the slope is inhibited effectively,while the soil at the base of the bunker should be emphatically compacted and supported by *** fieldmeasured data are in better agreement with the results calculated from the hardening-soil model and the combined support mode of anchor and soil ***,the results can be used to determine the key deformation range and reinforcing areas for engineering design.

Zhangmu deposit is a typical soil-rock mixture(S-RM) deposit made up of very complicated inhomogeneous materials containing soil matrix and rock blocks of various *** slope shows evidences of instability phenomena characterized by shallow landslides and several extensive cracks along slide crown,which seriously affects the life of local *** order to characterize the mechanical behavior of the deposit with evaluation of the actual strength parameters and permeability while taking into account the influence of the block proportion,seven test points were established for in situ S-RM and constant-head injection tests on a large *** results indicated a larger internal friction angle and lower cohesion for S-RM from in situ tests compared to tests results obtained from laboratory ***,it was noted that the strength parameters were correlated with the block proportion by weight(WBP) of S-RM,while both internal friction angle and cohesion were observed to be strongly affected by a critical WBP threshold(70%),which is in agreement with the common S-RM mechanical ***,permeability increases with WBP increase to more than 70%,denoting a similar threshold to the findings observed in strength characteristics.

The weathering degree of rocks has an adverse influence on their strength and deformability characteristics,which in turn influences the industrial uses of *** need to develop a weathering index that reveals their mechanical and engineering geological behaviors is thus pertinent to enable the building of more accurate models for forecasting geological *** weathering in the Ma On San,Shek Kip Mei and Kwun Tong areas of Hong Kong was studied using scan electron microscope(SEM) images to observe mineral shapes for detailed identification of the weathering degree of completely decomposed granite(CDG).Plagioclase images captured from the SEM were subsequently analyzed and processed with the use of a microstructural image processing *** results of the analyses indicate that plagioclase,though sensitive to weathering,still remains in CDG and is preserved at different weathering ***,it provides a possibility for evaluating the weathering degree more ***,a new index referred to as the plagioclase solution degree index is proposed to evaluate the weathering degree of granite.

Karst is a potential geological disaster threatening urban ***,the existing methods for evaluating the stability of karst foundations are *** makes it difficult to propose reasonable and practical suggestions for optimal treatment measures in engineering *** paper presents a set of quantitative comprehensive evaluation methods to analyze the karst foundations in a residential area of Tangshan,*** of the karst formation mechanism and development law are undertaken in combination with a numerical simulation to evaluate the stability of the karst foundations of urban high-rise buildings using the results of a field research to determine the model and the parameters for the numerical *** depth of influence of the foundation of an 8-storey building is less than 30 ***,treatment of the building foundation is not required if there is no karst in the range of 30 m under the ***,foundation treatment in the karst zone up to 7 m is required for a 26-storey building with a depth of influence of about 60 m in order to meet the requirements of foundation *** employment of a combined approach method is proposed,therefore,as it provides a systematic and practical method for the challenge of optimizing the foundation treatment method for urban high-rise structures in karst areas.

Pregnancy Rate of Bunaji Cows in a Fixed Time AI Synchronization Protocol Using Ovatide

This study accessed the reproductive performance of Bunaji cows in an Ovsynch protocol involving *** cows(n=16)aged 4-6 years and weighing between 250-350 kg with body condition scores(BCS)of 2.5-3.5 were *** were two treatment groups for synchronization of *** group 1 comprising Bunaji(n=8)received 50μg of gonadotropin releasing hormone(GnRH)(Cystorelin)and 25 mg of PGF2α.While,treatment group 2 comprising Bunaji(n=8)received 50μg of ovatide and 25 mg of PGF2α.All cows from both treatment groups were inseminated at 16 h after each second GnRH or ovatide *** that showed mucus discharge from the vagina on the day of artificial insemination(AI)were recorded as well as those that had patent *** dilation was measured by taking note of the cows that had mid cervix insemination due to non-passage of the AI gun through the *** palpation was conducted twice at a month interval to select cycling cows within 5-12 d of the estrous cycle before initiating Ovsynch *** was repeated on day 45 post AI to confirm pregnancies in *** showed that the rate of mucus discharge from the vagina was 37.5%and 87.5%for ovatide and Cystorelin,respectively;while the rate of cervical dilation were 75%and 87.5%for ovatide and Cystorelin,respectively(p>0.05),and pregnancy rates were 0%and 12.5%for ovatide and Cystorelin,*** were no significant differences between the two *** was concluded that treatment of Bunaji cows with 50μg ovatide in Ovsynh protocol has heat and ovulation synchronization potentials and zero pregnancy *** was recommended that further studies be carried out using graded doses of 50,100 and 150μg of ovatide in a fixed time AI synchronization protocol in Bunaji cows,to tap the potentials of the hormone in manipulation of bovine reproduction.
