Background: Occupational dermatoses, also called occupational dermatitis or occupational dermatitis, are very common in the workplace and are still a topical subject. All over the world, especially in developed countries. They handicap the professional activities of the workers. Purpose: To determine the epidemiological profile of dermatosis among automobile repair and maintenance garages in Parakou. Methods: It was a cross-sectional and descriptive study carried out from 20 April to 17 May 2020. The sampling method was non-probabilistic. Data collected from a questionnaire, clinical examination and worksite observation were analyzed with Epi Info 7.***.2.1 software. Results: The participation rate was 98.08%. The sex ratio (male/female) was 178. The mean age of the respondents was 25.80 ± 10.22 years. Respondents with less than 5 years of experience in the field were 61.22%. Mechanics were the most numerous. In the sample, 95.81% had frequent skin contact with fuels, 84.08% had contact with motor oils and 15.92% had contact with dilute battery electrolyte solutions. The frequency of dermatosis was 73.46%. Hands and wrists were the most affected seats (47.35%). Some (33.84%) wore them before the start of the activity in the garage but in 66.22% of them, the dermatosis had occurred because of their arrival in the garage. Among these skin diseases, keratoderma predominated at 80.01%. Conclusion: Dermatosis is very common among garage owners in Parakou.

Introduction: Hearing impairments are common among nightclub workers. The present work aims to study the hearing clinical profile of these employees in the city of Parakou in 2021. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive analytical study from March 14 to June 15, 2021. It focused on employees of 13 nightclubs in the city of Parakou. Were included in the study, employees with at least 03 months of practice and aged at least 18 to 50 years at most on the date of the survey and who had given their informed consent to participate in the study. Each employee received a questionnaire, an otoscopy and an acoumetry in tune. Noise pollution was measured at each workstation using a sound level meter. Results: A total of 114 employees were collected. The mean age was 26.38 years ± 4.81 and the sex ratio 0.87. The server position was occupied by 65 employees (57%) followed by managers, 19 or 16.70%- and 17-disc jockeys, 14.90%. Among the employees 31.60% exercised between 03 and 09 months. 76.32% were exposed to noise for more than 8 hours per day and 81.58% were exposed to noise for more than 40 hours per week. The sound level at the workstation was for 59 employees (51.75%) between 90 and 100 dB. Tinnitus was the most expressed complaint, respectively 21 (18.40%) on the right and 22 (19.30%) on the left. Rinne’s test was positive in 85.10% of employees. Weber’s test was indifferent to all frequencies in the majority of respondents. Conclusion: Hearing damage among nightclub employees in the city of Parakou is a reality. It is important to put preventive measures in place.

Introduction: Work accidents (WA) have consequences for both the individual and the company. The objective of this study is to study the profile of work accidents declared to the Parakou agency of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) from 2015 to 2021. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. It concerned workers affiliated with the CNSS in Parakou, victims of declared WA whose file was available and exploitable. The sampling was exhaustive. Data was collected from registers and worker records. The variables studied were socio-demographic and related to the accident. They were analyzed using R version 4.1 software. Results: The annual incidence rate of WA varied from 5.8% in 2015 to 1.7% in 2021. The victims were 90.6% male. There were more subjects aged 28 to 37 years (37.1%). Workers and laborers were the most concerned. Fractures (22.9%) were the major lesions. At 38.5% they sat in the thoracic limbs and at 22.5% in the pelvic limbs. The majority (63.6%) of these accidents occurred in the workplace. The processing industry sector was mainly (52.1%) the place of accidents. Conclusion: The prevalence of WA declared to the agency of the National Social Security Fund of Parakou from 2015 to 2021 is decreasing. The most affected were young people. It is important to assess their socio-economic impacts.

Introduction: The use of biomass for cooking is a very common practice in Africa and Benin, and is associated with exposure to organic pollutants. The aim of this study was to assess carbon monoxide exposure and respiratory disorders in women at artisanal fish-smoking sites. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of women fish smokers at two artisanal fish-smoking sites in Benin. Recruitment was exhaustive. An interview using a respiratory questionnaire inspired by the Union questionnaire, spirometry and carbon monoxide (CO) measurement were carried out. Descriptive analysis and comparison of means using Student’s t-test with a threshold of p = 0.05 were performed. Results: The median age of the 81 people surveyed was 40, with an interquartile range (IQT) of [25 to 75]. The median duration of daily exposure to smoke was 6 h IQT [4, 7]. Of those surveyed, 64 (79.01%) were illiterate and 39 (48.24%) had been working for 20 years. CO levels at the start of activity varied from 89 to 145 ppm in one case and from 40 to 89 ppm in the other. Respiratory symptoms were present in 19 (23.46%);18 (22.22%) had mild airway impairment on spirometry. There was a statistically significant decrease between the mean values of peak expiratory flow (PEF), mean expiratory volume in seconds (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) before and after exposure to smoke. Conclusion: CO levels are high on fish smoking sites and respiratory problems are common. Improved working conditions are important for these women.

Introduction: Low back pain is nowadays a real public health problem in companies. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with chronic low back pain among workers of a mining company in Burkina Faso. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with a retrospective collection that took place from August 1, 2021 to March 16, 2022 in a gold mine in Burkina Faso. It focused on mine workers who participated in the 2019 annual medical visit. Results: Out of a total workforce of 880 workers who took part in the annual medical visit in 2019, 165 had chronic common low back pain, i.e. a prevalence of 18.75%. The average age of low back pain workers was 37.21 ± 7.5 years. Among the workers suffering from low back pain, 62 (37.58%) held the position of machine operator. Clinically, mechanical pain was found in 113 low back pain workers (76%) and twenty-nine (17.58%) had radicular pain. Standard radiography of the lumbar spine was abnormal in 129 workers (78.18%. In the univariate analysis, the factors associated with the pathology were sex, level of study, work station and seniority in the position. After a logistic regression, the factors associated with its occurrence were whole-body vibration (Fisher’s test = 12.7541;P = 0.000), male sex (Fisher’s test = 8.363;P = 0.004), and seniority for 4 to 5 years (Chi2 = 4.0234;p = 0.046). Conclusion: The study reveals the existence of chronic low back pain cases among the workers of the mining company. There is a predominance of the pathology in men, workers exposed to vibrations and those with a seniority of 4 to 5 years. It is necessary to establish a policy of prevention of low back pain for the benefit of workers, in particular those exposed to vibrations.

Introduction: Coronavirus 19 disease (COVID-19) often presents several serious complications in patients. 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] deficiency is considered a risk factor for severe forms of the disease. Objective: The objective of this work was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with vitamin D deficiency in patients with COVID-19 in Parakou in 2021. Methods: The method used was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection that covered the period of August 1, 2021, to December 30, 2021. It concerned patients with COVID-19, symptomatic or not, in the commune of Parakou, selected by non-probability sampling. The 25(OH)D assay was performed by an enzyme immunoassay using the heterogeneous phase competition technique. Logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with 25(OH)D deficiency at the 5% threshold. Results: A total of 197 patients with COVID-19 were included in the study with a mean age of 35.4 ± 15.2 years;with a female predominance (52.3%). The overall prevalence of 25(OH)D deficiency was 31.5% (95% CI [25.1 - 38.5]);it was 32.0% in females and 30.8% in males. 25(OH)D deficiency was more observed in patients ≥ 60 years than in patients < 60 years with no significant difference (p = 0.121), and in females (32.0%) than in males (30.8%) with no significant difference either (p = 0.857). Diabetes (p = 0.036), overweight or obesity (p = 0.032), severe disease forms (p = 0.003) and rhinitis (p = 0.009) were significantly associated with 25(OH)D deficiency. Conclusion: One-third of patients with COVID-19 in Parakou in 2021 were 25(OH)D deficient. 25(OH)D deficiency is associated with the severe form of the disease and with comorbidities justifying supplementation of this vitamin to patients with COVID-19.

Introduction: In the general population as well as in the workplace, hypertension is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. The particularities of hypertension in the world of work remain little studied. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with hypertension among workers in a town hall in Benin in 2019. Methods: This was a descriptive, analytical cross-sectional study conducted from December 2018 to January 2019. A comprehensive recruitment was conducted. Data were collected during a face-to-face interview, supplemented by measurement of anthropometric parameters and blood pressure as well as a work stress assessment. Frequencies were compared using the chi-square test and Fisher’s test. The significance level was 5%. Results: A total of 86 workers were included. Their mean age was 41.55 ± 9.82 years with a sex ratio of 6.1. The prevalence of hypertension was estimated to be 18.6% [95% CI: 11.96% - 29.75%]. Hypertension was higher in workers under work stress (41.18%) as opposed to non-stressed workers (14.49%) (p = 0.032);in those who were overweight (30.77) as opposed to non-overweight (2.94%) (p Conclusion: Work stress and obesity are modifiable factors associated with hypertension in workers at the Bohicon city hall. These factors deserve to be corrected by occupational health promotion and prevention actions.

Introduction: Highly active antiretroviral treatment has considerably reduced the morbidity and mortality associated with HIV infection. However, we are witnessing the emergence of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The aim of this work is to study erectile dysfunction (ED) and the associated factors with HIV positive people managed DHU-B. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study covering the period from March 1, 2017 to June 31, 2017. The study involved HIV-positive patients 18 years old and above, male, under antiretroviral treatment and have given their consent. ED was assessed by the IIEF5 score (International Index of Erectile Function). The data collected had been recorded and processed with the EPI INFO software (Version 7.2). The significance level was 5%. Results: A total of 280 patients were included in the study. The average age was 42 ± 10.04 years with extremes of 23 and 67 years. The prevalence of ED was 52.14%. Among patients with ED, 41% had severe ED. Factors associated with ED in multivariate analysis were: age over 40 years, anxiety, depression, arterial hypertension, lipodystrophy, multiple sexual partners and protease inhibitor therapy. Conclusion: ED concerns half of HIV-infected patients followed in the Internal Medicine department. It is therefore essential to provide more comprehensive care, both clinically and psychologically, in order to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.

Virological Therapeutic Failure and Associated Factors in People Living with HIV Followed up at the Regional Hospital and University of Borgou (RHU-B) in 2019

Introduction: Antiretroviral treatment has made a considerable reduction in morbidity and mortality in HIV patients, but its effectiveness is compromised by the emergence of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and also treatment failure. The goal is to study Virological therapeutic failure and the factors associated with HIV patients followed at RUH-B. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study covering the period from 21st July to 21st September 2019. The study enrolled patients 18 years old and above, on antiretroviral treatment for at least 6 months. For the survey, a questionnaire and review of the medical records were used. The variable studied was virological treatment failure. Data analysis was performed using EPI-INFO version 7 and STATA 11 software. The significance level was 5%. Results: A total of 498 patients were included in the study. The mean age was 40 ± 9.90 years. The sex ratio was 0.3. The frequency of treatment failure was 15.3%. The factors associated with the occurrence of treatment failure were: phytotherapy, occurrence of opportunistic infections during follow-up, poor compliance with antiretrovirals, lack of weight gain and anemia during follow-up. Conclusion: This study had shown that treatment failure was frequent in patients. The systematic investigation for failure should be done in all people living with HIV patients on antiretrovirals.

Profile of Factors of Arduous Work among Healthcare Professionals in Healthcare Facilities in Northern Benin in 2021

Introduction: Work environments create the basis for arduous nursing work. This is what led us to research the factors of arduousness in the exercise of the health profession in North Benin, through this study. Methods: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study which focused on health professionals in the health zones of Parakou-N’dali and Tchaourou. The sampling was an exhaustive census. All health workers who had given their free and informed consent were included. The data was collected using a questionnaire. The variables studied were the factors of arduous work and socio-professional characteristics. The data collected was processed and analyzed with the Epi info 7.***.0.1 software. Results: A total of 692 were surveyed, the participation rate was 85.11% and the sex ratio (M/F) equal to 0.7. The average age was 38 years old. Nurses made up 32.66% of the sample. They were 86.42% subject to night work and 82.66% to alternating work. Overall, 70.23% worked more than 40 hours per week. Between 78.12% and 96.46% of non-specialist doctors, nurses, midwives and biomedical analysis technicians were required to work night shifts. Nurses, midwives, radiology and laboratory technicians were between 89.53% and 97.35%, organized in alternating work. In the sample, 55.20% complained about the insufficient number of work materials, 26.29% handled harmful chemical substances. Among those surveyed, 58.14% had been attacked. Conclusion: All professional categories of caregivers are subject to arduous work. Measures are needed to reverse the situation.
