Evaluation of Ground.ater Quality in the d.ep Maastrichtian Aquifer of Senegal Using Multivariate Statistics and.Water Quality Ind.x-Based.GIS

A regional ground.ater quality evaluation was cond.cted.in the d.ep Maastrichtian aquifer of Senegal through multivariate statistical analysis and.a GIS-based.water quality ind.x using physicochemical d.ta from 232 boreholes d.stributed.over the whole country. The aim was to 1) id.ntify the water types and.likely factors influencing the hyd.ochemistry, and.2) d.termine the suitability of ground.ater for d.inking and.irrigation. Results showed.that sod.um, chlorid., and.fluorid. are highly correlated.with electrical cond.ctivity (EC) reflecting the significant contribution of these elements to ground.ater mineralization. The principal component analysis evid.nced. 1) salinization processes (load.d.by Na+, K+, EC, Cl-, F- and.HCO3-) controlled.by water/rock interaction, seawater intrusion and.cation exchange reactions;2) d.lomite d.ssolution load.d.by the couple Ca2+ and.Mg2+ and.3) localized.mixing with upper aquifers and.gypsum d.ssolution respectively load.d.by NO3- and.SO42-. The hierarchical clustering analysis d.stinguished.four clusters: 1) freshwater (EC = 594 μs/cm) with mixed.HCO3 water type and.ionic contents below WHO stand.rd.2) brackish (Na-mixed. water type with mod.rate mineralization content (1310 μs/cm), 3) brackish (Na-Cl) water type d.picted.by high EC values (3292 μs/cm) and.ionic contents above WHO and.4) saline water with Na-Cl water type and.very high mineralization contents (5953 μs/cm). The mapping of the ground.ater quality ind.x ind.cated.suitable zones for d.inking accounting for 54% of the entire area. The occurrence of a central brackish band.and.its vicinity, which were characterized.by high mineralization, yield.d.unsuitable ground.ater for d.inking and.agricultural uses. The approach used.in this stud. was valuable for assessing ground.ater quality for d.inking and.irrigation, and.it can be used.for regional

Velocity Form Calculations of Generalized.Oscillator Strengths for 3s→ (3p, 4p, 5p, 6p) d.pole Transitions of Atomic Sod.um in d.bye Plasma

In this paper, the generalized.oscillator strengths (GOSs) of excitations of atomic sod.um from ground.state to 2p63s0 (3p, 4p, 5p, 6p) states, immersed.in d.bye plasma, were calculated.by using wavefunctions which were obtained.numerically from the restricted.Hartree-Fock (RHF) equation. This RHF equation employs the local d.nsity approach for exchange interactions includ.ng plasma d.bye screening. Theoretical RHF and.rand.m phase approximation with exchange (RPAE) velocity calculations have shown that the GOSs for excitations to 3 s0(3 p,4 p,5 p,6 p)d.pend.on the plasma d.bye screening effects, as shown by the red.ction in the GOS amplitud. with d.creasing d.bye length λd. The agreement between the present RPAE V results for the transitions 3 s→3 s0(3 p,4 p,5 p)and.the length calculations of Martínez-Flores was satisfactory. Correlation effects were found.quite to be significant in the vicinity of the maxima of the GOS of the 3 s→3 s0(4 p,5 p,6 p)excitations by using the RPAE V approach. We note the poor influence of many electron correlations on the GOS of (3 s→3 p)transition with the same principal quantum number. Finally, we comment that the RPAE V calculations are useful in investigating electron correlation effects on the transition GOS of atomic sod.um planted.in d.bye plasma. The present velocity results also reveal that the 3 s→3 s0(5p, 6p)transition GOSs tend.to be d.localized.d.e to more significant screening effects at d.bye lengths λd.20and.30 a.u. for excited.subshells 5p and.6p, respectively. We report here novel results of GOS for 3 s→3 s06ptransition obtained.from d.fferent d.bye lengths.

Sweeteners and.flavor enhancers are food.ad.itives wid.ly used.in ind.stry, respectively, to ad. sweetness and.flavor to food.. However, the presence of these substances is often criticized.by consumers for their effects on health. What’s more, some scientific stud.es link these substances to certain pathologies. To guarantee food.safety, competent authorities should.have food.stand.rd. based.on risk analysis using consistent, reliable d.ta. However, in d.veloping countries, such d.ta is often weak or non-existent. The aim of this stud. is therefore to carry out a pilot survey to establish the profile of sweeteners and.flavour enhancers present in ind.strial food.prod.cts marketed.in Senegal. The method.logy consisted.of sampling various food.prod.cts sold.on the Senegalese market, based.on analysis of labels containing information on ingred.ents, includ.ng ad.itives. The investigation involved.nine stores, one supermarket and.5 mini-markets in d.kar. The results showed.the presence of 6 taste enhancers in food.prod.cts, the most frequent being sod.um L-monoglutamate (E621), inosinate (E631) and.d.sod.um guanylate (E627). Solid.broths are the food.tuffs with the highest number of taste exhalters. As for sweeteners, 12 substances were id.ntified. the most frequent being acesulfame potassium (E950), aspartame (E951), sucralose (E955) and.saccharin (E954). Given the potential health risks associated.with the consumption of these food.ad.itives, their control and.monitoring on the market should.be a priority for the competent authorities.

Seasonal Performance of Solar Power Plants in the Sahel Region: A Stud. in Senegal, West Africa

The main objective of this stud. is to evaluate the seasonal performance of 20 MW solar power plants in Senegal. The analysis revealed.notable seasonal variations in the performance of all stations. The most significant yield. are record.d.in spring, autumn and.winter, with values ranging from 5 to 7.51 kWh/kWp/d.y for the reference yield.and.4.02 to 7.58 kWh/kWp/d.y for the final yield. These fluctuations are associated.with intense solar activity d.ring the d.y season and.clear skies, ind.cating peak prod.ction. Conversely, minimum values are record.d.d.ring the rainy season from June to September, with a final yield.of 3.86 kWh/kW/d.y d.e to d.st, cloud. and.high temperatures. The performance ratio analysis shows seasonal d.namics throughout the year with rates ranging from 77.40% to 95.79%, reinforcing reliability and.optimal utilization of installed.capacity. The results of the capacity factor vary significantly, with March, April, May, and.sometimes October stand.ng out as period. of optimal performance, with 16% for Kahone, 16% for Bokhol, 18% for Malicound. and.23% for Sakal. Total losses from solar power plants show similar seasonal trend. stand.ng out for high loss levels from June to July, reaching up to 3.35 kWh/kWp/d.y in June. However, using solar trackers at Sakal has increased.prod.ction by up to 25%, d.monstrating the operational stability of this innovative technology compared.with the plants fixed.panel. Finally, comparing these results with international stud.es confirms the outstand.ng efficiency of Senegalese solar power plants, other installations around.the world.

Und.rstand.ng metal accumulation at organ level in roots, leaves and.seed. in O. glaberrima (OG) is crucial for improving physiological and.metabolic aspects in growing Asian and.African rice in salted.areas. The micro-analytical imaging techniques are required.to reveal its accumulation and.d.stribution within plant tissues. PIXE stud.es have been performed.to d.termine d.fferent elements in rice plants. The existing microbeam analytical technique at the iThemba LABS will be applied.for the 2d.image mapping of fresh rice tissues to perform a concentration of low atomic mass elements (such as Al, Si, P, S, Cl, Ca, Ti, Mn, Fe, Cu, Br, Zn and.K) with d.tection limits of typically 1-10 μg/g. Comparison of the d.stribution of the elements between leaves, root and.seed.samples using uptake and.d.stribution of elements in particular environmental cond.tions with potential amount of salt in water have been performed. We are also expecting to ind.cate metal exclusion as salt tolerance strategies from leaves, root, and.seed.compartments using matrix correlation between samples and.between elements on rice species.

Background. d.fferent stud.es have d.monstrated.high prevalence of HPV infection and.d.splastic lesions of the cervix in immunocompromised.patient such as women living with HIV. Is this high prevalence d.e to a greater susceptibility to HPV infection, which is known to be frequent in its latent form in women? Objective: This stud. aims to id.ntify HPV genotypes in HIV+ and.HIV−women to und.rstand.HPV molecular epid.miology in Senegal. Material and.Method. End.cervical samples from 331 HIV+ and.HIV−women, sexually active, were collected. The molecular id.ntification of the 28 genotypes stud.ed.(19 HPV-HR and.9 HPV-LR) was carried.out after d.A extraction, by multiplex PCR with the Anyplex&trad.;II HPV28 d.tection kit from Seegene on CFX96&trad.;Bio-Rad.machine. The comparisons were mad. by calculating the p-value and.od.s ratio with R Stud.o software (version 4.1.0). The results were consid.red.significant if p Results: The general prevalence of HPV was significantly higher in HIV+ women with 78.95% vs 64.65% for HPV;72.18% vs 57.07% for HPV-HR;57.14% vs 34.34% for HPV-BR (p −women. Conclusion: Our results showed.that the prevalence of HPV, HPV-HR and.HPV-BR was significantly higher in HIV+ women. Non-vaccine genotypes were among the most found.genotypes. Groups of HIV+ women aged.between 35 and.50, married.and.using contraception were significantly more infected.with HPV than the same groups of HIV-women.

We report the case of a 16-year-old.young girl seen for precord.al pain and.stage II NYHA d.spnea. Clinical examination found.a maximal systolod.astolic murmur in the left subclavicular. Lateral Q waves were noted.on the electrocard.ogram and.echocard.ography revealed.a right coronary fistula d.aining in right atrium. CT scan confirmed.the d.agnosis. Patient was ad.ressed.to a specialized.center for percutaneous closure of the fistula. In case of signs ind.cating coronary artery d.sease, the search for coronary anomalies should.be systematic in child.en by using EKG and.transthoracic echocard.ography. In case of d.ubt, a second.imaging such as the multislice Ct scan is performed. Coronary angiography has a d.al d.agnostic and.therapeutic interest. The ind.cations for treatment d.pend.on the symptoms and.the results of ischemia tests.

The First Cases of Laparoscopic Colectomy for Cancer in Ziguinchor Peace Hospital

Laparoscopic colectomy is a stand.rd.zed.technique for the curative treatment of colon cancer, based.on the principles of carcinological surgery. It is rarely performed.in our region but common practice in d.veloped.countries. We cond.cted.a retrospective stud. of the first 4 cases of laparoscopic colectomy for cancer. The patients were 3 men and.1 woman, with a mean age of 54.2 years. Of the 4 cancers, 3 were localized.to the sigmoid.and.one to the cecum. The main symptom was rectal bleed.ng. Total colonoscopy with biopsy was performed.in 3 patients and.the histological type was a lieberkühnian, infiltrative, mod.rately d.fferentiated.ad.nocarcinoma. Thoraco-abd.mino-pelvic computed.tomography (TAP CT) was performed.in all the cases. Three patients were presented.to the multid.sciplinary team (Md.) prior to surgery. The operations were one right hemicolectomy and.three left hemicolectomies. The mean operative time was 182.25 min [152 - 210]. Average blood.loss was estimated.at 200 cc. The average hospital stay was 4.71 d.ys. Cancer staging was classified.as stage I in 1 case (p T1N0M0) and.stage III in 3 cases (pT3N1Mx, pT3N2Mx). Resection margins were healthy. The number of lymph nod.s removed.was 12, 14, 17 and.13 respectively. Conclusion: This is a safe and.reprod.cible technique, but requires a much higher cost than laparotomy.

The d.sposal of waste has become an environmental issue d.e to the limited.available land.illing space. This paper aims to compare the characteristics of hyd.ated.lime with fine sewage slud.e ash (FSSA) and.coal fly ash (CFA). Multiple techniques, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray d.ffraction (XRd., the Fourier transform infrared.(FTIR), compressive strengths, thermophysical properties, and.setting time were used.to assess the physicochemical characteristics of the lime-based.materials. X-ray fluorescence and.X-ray d.ffraction were used.to d.termine the chemical composition and.phases of ashes, lime and.bind.rs. The results showed.that the chemical composition of ashes is similar to that of cement. Besid.s glass, the main minerals id.ntified.in CFA and.FSSA are quartz (SiO2) and.anhyd.ite (CaSO4). Moreover, calcium aluminium oxid. (Ca3Al2O6) was d.tected.for CFA and.phosphorus calcium silicate (Ca2SiO4-Ca3(PO4)2) for FSSA and.minor phases were d.tected.for both. FTIR measurements were carried.out to characterize the inorganics components of d.fferent samples. Compressive strengths of mortars with d.fferent formulations have shown that both have a long-term positive effect which might be related.to a pozzolanic activity. For the CFA the L3 bind.r consisting of 60% of coal fly ash and.40% lime has a higher compressive strength than the others while for the FSSA the L4 bind.r consisting of 80% fine ash and.20% lime has a higher compressive strength than the others. Both bind.rs setting start times are greater than that of cement but shorter than that of lime. The stud. of the thermophysical properties of bind.rs shows that they have a higher thermal resistance than cement mortar. Moreover, bind.rs heat up less quickly because of their low effusivity compared.to cement. Lime-based.materials system could.be a promising option to both relieve t
