An overview of the endogenous and environmental factors related to the Coffea arabica flowering process

The transition of vegetative meristems to a reproductive state followed by floral development and flowering is a complex process regulated by many regulatory pathways that integrate(epi)genetic and environmental factors to guarantee the reproductive success in *** woody and perennial species,such as coffee trees,the extended life cycle reflects adaptive strategies,i.e.,two-year cycle,sequential flowering and bud latency during the winter,that ensure reproductive success in a variable *** dynamics of coffee flowering integrate multiple stimuli to induce morpho-physiological changes,especially during the reproductive *** discussed diverse stimuli which are directly and indirectly associated with molecular pathways related to the reproductive meristem transition and floral development until ***,we propose to redefine some concepts regarding coffee floral development,such as:i)a summary of genes possibly involved in the flowering pathways;ii)a new classification of buds by position in the node(B1-B4)to avoid misunderstandings with the uneven developmental stages;iii)comparative ABC model to Arabidopsis and tomato to allow evolutionary discussions of whorls development in Coffea *** this,we expect to collaborate to drive future studies towards coffee breeding and production,for example,improving floral bud activation,controlling the flowering time,anthesis synchronization to produce more homogeneous ripening fruits,reducing abortion or early flower openings,and increasing ***,we think that the explored relationship between physiological and molecular approaches during the coffee flowering may be extended to understand other tropical perennial species,especially those with asynchronous flowering behavior,and to understand evolutive aspects in Rubiaceae.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a major public health challenge,mainly affecting the elderly population and compromising their cognitive,sensory,and motor ***,available therapies focus on alleviating symptoms and slowing the progression of these conditions,but they do not yet offer a definitive *** this scenario,terpenes emerge as promising natural alternatives due to their neuroprotective *** compounds can reduce the formation of protein aggregates,neutralize free radicals,and inhibit pro-inflammatory enzymes,which are crucial factors in the development of neurodegenerative *** addition,terpenes also play an important role in the regulation and remodeling of the extracellular matrix,a key target for improving neuronal *** such as linalool,pinene,and eugenol,among others,have potential therapeutic effects by modulating inflammatory and oxidative stress processes,the main factors that contribute to the progression of these *** suggest that these compounds act on signaling pathways that regulate the extracellular matrix,improving neuronal integrity and,consequently,cognitive and motor *** work aims to review the potential of terpenes in the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders,with emphasis on their ability to regulate oxidative stress and inflammation,as well as to remodel the extracellular *** interaction between these mechanisms points to the promising use of terpenes as an innovative and natural therapeutic approach to combat these diseases.

Recent studies have shown a noticeable increase in global Helicobacter pylori(***)resistance,with clarithromycin resistance surpassing 15%in various ***,inadequate epidemiological monitoring,especially in developing countries,and the absence of uniform testing methods lead to discrepancies between regions and a possible underestimation of resistance *** complexity of treating *** is driven by its highly dynamic genome,which is prone to frequent mutations contributing to phenotypical *** usual course of action in empirical treatment involves using a combination of various drugs simultaneously,leading to significant resistance selection pressure and potential side *** emergence of *** strains resistant to multiple drugs is closely tied to failures in first-line treatment,highlighting the need to prevent further resistance by using optimal initial empirical therapy or regimens guided by antibiotic susceptibility testing,requiring a collection of mixed samples and multiple isolates for accurate *** emergence of new treatments like potassium-competitive acid blockers offers a hopeful approach to decrease antimicrobial usage while still ensuring effectiveness in comparison to traditional therapies with proton pump ***,the use of probiotics is under investigation to identify specific strains and formulations that may mitigate therapy-associated adverse effects.

BACKGROUND Family caregivers of cirrhosis patients(CPs)often experience burden,stress,and *** whether these conditions improve following the patient undergoing liver transplantation(LT)is crucial,as it would elucidate the compre-hensive benefits of the procedure and demonstrate the positive impacts not only on the patients but also on their caregivers and *** To compare the levels of burden,stress and depression among family caregivers of cirrhotic and liver transplant *** This cross-sectional observational study evaluated caregivers of CPs and LT recipients at a quaternary Brazilian *** included identification cards,interview scripts,the caregiver burden scale Inventory,Lipp’s Stress Symptom Inventory,and the Beck Depression Inventory-Second *** analyses involved confirmatory factor analysis and calculation of McDonald’s omega and composite *** scores were compared with the Mann-Whitney U test,with effect size as the rank-biserial correlation coefficient(r).Statistical analysis was performed with R software(P<0.05).RESULTS Seventy-seven CP caregivers and 65 LT recipient caregivers were *** were female(CP:85.7%vs LT:84.6%)and the patients’spouses(76.6%vs 63.1%).The median age and caregiving duration were 55.4(23.3-76.3)vs 54.6(25.7-82.1)and 3.9(1-20)vs 8(1.5-24)years,respectively(P=0.001).LT caregivers were less likely to be at risk of overload(21.5%vs 49.4%),to be under stress(33.8%vs 36.4%)and to show symptoms of depression(15.4%vs 35.1%).Compared with LT caregivers,CP caregivers had greater median factor scores for burden(general tension,P=0.012;isolation,P=0.014;disappointment,P=0.004),depression(P=0.008),and stress(P=0.047),with small to moderate effect *** disappointment(r=0.240)and depression(r=0.225)dimensions had the largest effect *** Family caregivers of LT recipients are less likely to exhibit symptoms of burden,stress,and depression,su

The effect of drying of Piper hispidinervium bydifferent methods and its influence on the yield ofessential oil and safrole

The Piper hispidinervium leaves and thin stems were dried under laboratory and field *** drying was performed using a shade dryer operating with and without forced convection and an oven dryer operating at 30 and 40*** experiments were conducted using solar dryers with three different covers,i.e.,transparent,black plastic,and palm straw *** essential oil extraction was performed by steam distillation,and the safrole content was analyzed by gas *** mathematical models(Page,logarithmic,Henderson and Pabis,fractional,and diffusion)were fitted with the experimental data and compared based on the coefficient of determination(R2),root mean square error(RMSE)and *** suggest that the best model was the logarithmic model(R2>0.99,RMSE<0.0005,and v2<0.005).With sufficient drying,the safrole content increased up to 95%of the extracted oil;however,when the drying time was prolonged,both the oil yield and safrole content of the extracted oil decreased.

Adipose-derived stromal/stem cells from different adipose depots in obesity development

The increasing prevalence of obesity is alarming because it is a risk factor for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases(such as type 2 diabetes). The occurrence of these comorbidities in obese patients can arise from white adipose tissue(WAT) dysfunctions, which affect metabolism, insulin sensitivity and promote local and systemic inflammation. In mammals, WAT depots at different anatomical locations(subcutaneous, preperitoneal and visceral) are highly heterogeneous in their morpho-phenotypic profiles and contribute differently to homeostasis and obesity development, depending on their ability to trigger and modulate WAT inflammation. This heterogeneity is likely due to the differential behavior of cells from each depot. Numerous studies suggest that adiposederived stem/stromal cells(ASC; referred to as adipose progenitor cells, in vivo)with depot-specific gene expression profiles and adipogenic and immunomodulatory potentials are keys for the establishment of the morphofunctional heterogeneity between WAT depots, as well as for the development of depot-specific responses to metabolic challenges. In this review, we discuss depot-specific ASC properties and how they can contribute to the pathophysiology of obesity and metabolic disorders, to provide guidance for researchers and clinicians in the development of ASC-based therapeutic approaches.

Association of sleep quality with sociodemographic factors and lifestyle in adolescents from southern Brazil

Background Good sleep quality is an essential component for growth, development, and physical and mental health of the individual, in addition to being a positive indicator of health and well-being. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of poor sleep quality and to identify the association of poor sleep quality with sociodemographic factors, lifestyle, weight status, and associated aerobic fitness in adolescents. Methods This study included 1110 students aged 14–19 years from city of S?o José/SC, Brazil. Sleep quality of the subjects was assessed using a questionnaire and classified as adequate and low. Independent variables were gender, age, monthly household income, maternal education, school shift, global physical activity, proper diet, screen time, sleeping hours of full week, sleeping hours of weekdays, sleeping hours of weekends, weight status, and aerobic fitness. Binary logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios and confidence intervals of 95%. Results Prevalence of poor sleep quality was 60.4%. More likely to have poor sleep quality were identified in female students (OR 1.68, 95% CI 1.11–2.55), whose mothers had higher levels of education (OR 1.44, 95% CI 1.20–1.73) and low aerobic fitness (OR 1.80, 95% CI 1.02–3.19). Conclusion Adolescents who were most likely to report poor sleep quality were female, those whose mothers had a higher educational level and had low aerobic fitness. Students with sedentary risk behavior were less likely of reporting poor sleep quality.

Evaluation and modeling of runoff and sediment yield for different land covers under simulated rain in a semiarid region of Brazil

This paper quantifies the runoff and sediment yield for four different land covers in a semiarid region of Brazil. The WESP model, a distributed, event-oriented runoff-erosion model, was applied and its physical parameters, NSand KR, were adjusted based on observed runoff and sediment yield data using simulated rainfall with an average intensity of 53 mm h-1. The sediment yield obtained was 53.02 kg ha-1(caatinga vegetation), 231.96 kg ha-1(bare soil), 309.75 kg ha-1(beans), and 847.38 kg ha-1(corn). The results showed that caatinga cover yields the lowest erosion and runoff when compared to the other *** results also show that the sediment yield and runoff values simulated with NS, KI, and KR parameters were well calibrated, within acceptable deviations. The caatinga vegetation was more effective in protecting the soil, when compared to the other types of coverage. The beans and corn covers had the highest values of runoff and sediment yield, even higher than those observed for bare soil.
