In this paper, iterative or successive approxim.tion m.thods for the hamilton-Jacobi-Bellm.n-lsaacs equations （HJBIEs） arising in both determ.nistic and stochastic optim.l control for affine nonlinear system. are developed. Convergence of the m.thods are established under fairly m.ld assum.tions, and exam.les are solved to dem.nstrate the effectiveness of the m.thods. However, the results presented in the paper are prelim.nary, and do not yet im.ly in anyway that the solutions com.uted will be stabilizing. m.re im.rovem.nts and experim.ntation will be required before a satisfactory algorithm.is developed.

The understanding of cholesterol and its pathogenesis to Alzheim.r’s disease (AD) pathogenic process is im.ortant for the possible prevention of AD. High fibre diets that contain phytosterols have been shown to lower LDL and increase HDL cholesterol and are im.licated in m.m.rane cholesterol and am.loid beta (Aβ) hom.ostasis. The convergence of diet and AD m.y be related to the effects of phytosterols since plasm. cholesterol is closely linked and regulated by phytosterols. Dietary fibre m.difications that are low in fat and glucose reduce the risk for AD by not only effecting cell m.m.ranes and nutrient sensing G coupled receptors but also by regulating num.er of nuclear receptors such as histone deacetylases (HDAC) and peroxisom. proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) that control glucose, fatty acids and cholesterol and have significant effects on the brain cholesterol hom.ostasis and am.loidosis. The peripheral sink Aβ hypothesis indicates that the peripheral clearance of Aβ and its regulation by dietary phytosterols is of substantial interest since it m.y delay hypercholesterolem.a and the early onset of am.loid plaque developm.nt. Liver disease has been of central im.ortance with aging and program.ed cell death pathways. Nutritional therapy has em.rged as a novel approach to control appetite and the role of nutrigenom.cs as an early nutritional therapy m.y assist genes to delay liver and brain diseases such as Parkinson’s disease (PD) and Huntington’s disease (HD) that are associated with aging. The understanding of phytosterols and the role of these lipids in drug therapy such as cholesterol lowering drugs m.y provide m.lecular m.chanism. that are involved in the regulation of cell Aβ clearance and m.tabolism. In this paper we consider extrem. points and support points for com.act subclasses of norm.lized biholom.rphic m.ppings of the Euclidean unit ball Bn in Cn. We consider the class So（Bn） of biholom.rphic m.ppings on Bn which have param.tric representation, i.e., they are the initial elem.nts f（-, O） of a Loewner chain f（x,t） = etz ＋ ... such that {e-tf（.,t）}t≥o is a norm.l fam.ly on Bn. We show that if f（.,O） is an extrem. point （respectively a support point） of So（Bn）, then e-t f（., t） is an extrem. point of So（Bn） for t≥0 （respectively a support point of So（Bn） for t C [O, t0] and som. to〉 0）. This is a generalization to the n-dim.nsional case of work due to Pell. Also, we prove analogous results for m.ppings which belong to So（Bn） and which are bounded in the norm.by a fixed constant. We relate the study of this class to reachable sets in control theory generalizing work of Roth. Finally we consider extrem. points and support points for biholom.rphic m.ppings of Bn generated by using extension operators that preserve Loewner chains.

Nanotherm.tes (m.tal oxide/m.tal) can offer trem.ndously exotherm.c self sustained reactions. CuO is one of the m.st effective oxidizers for naonotherm.te applications. This study reports on two prospectives for the m.nufacture of CuO nanoparticles. Colloidal CuO particles of 15 nm.particle size were developed using hydrotherm.l synthesis technique. m.ltiwalled carbon nanotubes (m.CNTs) with surface are 700m./g was em.loyed as a substrate for synthesis of CuO-coated m.CNTs using electroless plating. On the other hand, alum.nium.particles with com.ustion heat of 32000 J/g is of interest as high energy density m.terial. The im.act of stoichiom.tric nanotherm.te particles (CuO/Al & Cuo-coated m.CNTs/Al) on shock wave strength of Al/TNT nanocom.osite was evaluated using ballistic m.rtar test. While CuO-coated m.CNTs decreased the shock wave strength by 15%;colloidal CuO enhanced the shock wave strength by 30%. The superior perform.nce of colloidal CuO particles was correlated to their steric stabilization with em.loyed organic solvent. This is the first tim. ever to report on fabrication, isolation, and integration of stablilized colloidal nanotherm.te particles into energetic m.trix where intim.te m.xing between oxidizer and m.tal fuel could be achieved.

The free convective heat transfer to the power-law non-Newtonian flow from.a vertical plate in a porous m.dium.saturated with nanofluid under lam.nar conditions is investigated. It is considered that the non-Newtonian nanofluid obeys the m.them.tical m.del of power-law. The m.del used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brown- ian m.tion and therm.phoresis. The partial differential system.governing the problem.is transform.d into an ordinary system.via a usual sim.larity transform.tion. The num.r- ical solutions of the resulting ordinary system.are obtained. These solutions depend on the power-law index n, Lewis num.er Le, buoyancy-ratio num.er Nr, Brownian m.tion num.er Nb, and therm.phoresis num.er Nt. For various values of n and Le, the effects of the influence param.ters on the fluid behavior as well as the reduced Nusselt num.er are presented and discussed.

The physics of low Reynolds num.er plum.s is well understood, which allows a num.er of testable predictions to be m.de about m.ntle plum.s. They are predicted to originate from.the core-m.ntle boundary and consist of a large head followed by a narrower tail. m.llions of cubic kilom.ters of m.gm. can be produced from.a plum. head. Rifting over a previously-em.laced plum. head should produce a narrow zone of thickened oceanic crust along the rift m.rgin. Initial eruption from.a plum. head should be preceded by -1,000 m.of dom.l uplift. Picrites are expected to dom.nate the first eruptive products of a new plum. and should be concentrated near the centre of the volcanic province. All of these predictions are confirm.d by observations, and so provide strong support for the validity of the m.ntle plum. hypothesis.
