Metal-free carbon electrocatalyts for the oxygen reduction reaction (Orr) are attractive for their high activity and economic advantages. However, the origin of the activity has never been clearly elucidated in a systematic manner. Halogen group elements are good candidates for elucidating the effect, although it has been a difficult task due to safety issues. In this report, we demonstrate the synthesis of Cl-, Br- and I-doped reduced graphene oxide through two solution phase syntheses. We have evaluated the effectiveness of doping and performed electrochemical measurements of the Orr activity on these halogenated graphene materials. Our results suggest that the high electroneg-ativity of the dopant is not the key factor for high Orr activity; both Br- and I-doped graphene promoted Orr more efficiently than Cl-doped graphene. Furthermore, an unexpected sulfur-doping in acidic conditions suggests that a high level of sulfide can degrade the Orr activity of the graphene material.

Zinc–bromine rechargeable batteries(ZBrBs)are one of the most powerful candidates for next-generation energy storage due to their potentially lower material cost,deep discharge capability,non-flammable electrolytes,relatively long lifetime and good ***,many opportunities remain to improve the efficiency and stability of these batteries for long-life ***,we discuss the device configurations,working mechanisms and performance evaluation of *** non-flow(static)and flow-type cells are highlighted in detail in this *** fundamental electrochemical aspects,including the key challenges and promising solutions,are discussed,with particular attention paid to zinc and bromine half-cells,as their performance plays a critical role in determining the electrochemical performance of the battery *** following sections examine the key performance metrics of ZBrBs and assessment methods using various ex situ and in situ/operando *** review concludes with insights into future developments and prospects for high-performance ZBrBs.

Water oxidation is one of the most attractive techniques for intermittent renewable energy conversion and *** oxygen evolution electrocatalytic performance of an amorphous Co-B alloy and its derivatives were *** materials were chemically synthesized by reducing a Co salt with *** amorphous Co-B alloy showed good electrocatalytic activity in oxygen evolution but its stability was poor.A hydrotalcite‐wrapped Co-B alloy was synthesized by mild *** electrocatalytic activity of this material in the oxygen evolution reaction was better than that of a commercially available Ir/C catalyst.

The brain's extracellular matrix(ECM),which is comprised of protein and glycosaminoglycan(GAG)scaffolds,constitutes 20%-40% of the human brain and is considered one of the largest influencers on brain cell functioning(Soles et al.,2023).Synthesized by neural and glial cells,the brain's ECM regulates a myriad of homeostatic cellular processes,including neuronal plasticity and firing(Miyata et al.,2012),cation buffering(Moraws ki et al.,2015),and glia-neuron interactions(Anderson et al.,2016).Considering the diversity of functions,dynamic remodeling of the brain's ECM indicates that this understudied medium is an active participant in both normal physiology and neurological diseases.

In this work, we report enhanced electroactivity of Co304 nanocrystals （nanocubes, NCs and truncated nano-octahedra, TNO） on the exposed {111} facets as compared to the {001} facets in relation to the surface density and the activity of the octahedral Com species. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy were em- ployed to characterize the crystal facets and materials properties. The enhanced electroactivity of {111 } crystal facets was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and amperometric titration. Our results indicate that the {111 } facets in TNO has a better electroactivity for enzymeless glucose sensing with a decent glucose sensitivity of 32.54 μA （mmol/L）-1 cm-2.

The lithium sulfur batteries(LSBs) are considered as one of the promising next generation energy storage devices due to the high theoretical specific capacity of sulfur(1675 m Ah g-1), naturally available, low ***, the practical LSBs are impeded by the well-known "shuttle effect" combined with other technical drawbacks. The "shuttle effect" causes rapid capacity decay, severe self-discharging and low active material utilization. The polysulfide(PS) which has lone pair electrons in each sulfur atom is considered as Lewis base and shows strong affinity to various polar, Lewis acid and catenation interactive materials but very weakly interacts with the non-polar conductive carbons. The "shuttle effect" occurs due to the diffusion of high order PS from the cathode to the anode and then low-order PS back to the cathode. The PS is polar and, due to a lone pair of electrons associated with the sulfur atom, is considered a Lewis base. As such, the PS shows a strong affinity with various polar and Lewis acid materials. In addition, a more novel trapping can be performance through a catenation reaction. For LSBs to compete with the state-of-the-art lithium ion batteries(LIBs), the LSB areal capacity need to be ~6 m Ah cm-2(which is proportional to sulfur loading). To achieve this target the PS shuttling needs to mitigate, which can be achieved through using functional materials. This review addresses the aforementioned phenomena by considering the PS phase interacts with the various functional materials and how this impacts areal capacity and cycling stability of LSBs.

Lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)are promising alternative energy storage devices to the commercial lithium-ion ***,the LSBs have several limitations including the low electronic conductivity of sulfur(5×10^-30S cm^-1),associated lithium polysulfides(PSs),and their migration from the cathode to the *** this study,a separator coated with a Ketjen black(KB)/Nafion composite was used in an LSB with a sulfur loading up to 7.88 mg cm^-2to mitigate the PS migration.A minimum specific capacity(Cs)loss of 0.06%was obtained at 0.2 C-rate at a high sulfur loading of 4.39 mg cm^-***,an initial areal capacity up to 6.70 mAh cm^-2 was obtained at a sulfur loading of 7.88 mg cm^-*** low Cs loss and high areal capacity associated with the high sulfur loading are attributed to the large surface area of the KB and sulfonate group(SO3^-)of Nafion,respectively,which could physically and chemically trap the PSs.

This paper considers the problem of constructing a direct coupling quantum observer for a closed linear quantum system. The proposed distributed observer consists of a network of quantum harmonic oscillators and it is shown that the observer network converges to a consensus in a time averaged sense in which each element of the observer estimates the specified output of the quantum plant. An example and simulations are included to illustrate the properties of the observer network.

Conventional solid-state nanopore measurements sense all translocating entities,necessitating meticulous analysis to differentiate target *** address this,we have established a selective assay with the platform that has shown utility in quantifying several nucleic acid ***,limited detection efficiency and intrinsic noise have so far limited assay resolution to 10 *** in this value require manipulation of translocation ***,we report the effects of NaCl conditions on assay *** first investigate symmetric conditions,finding sensitivity increases with salt concentration but selectivity is maximized at 1.0 M *** then probe asymmetric conditions,showing a remarkable impact on assay sensitivity and selectivity when measurement buffer NaCl concentration in the reservoir with the translocating molecules is low and the opposite reservoir is *** optimum conditions,we demonstrate detection of target biomolecules down to a concentration of 100 pM which is an improvement of 2 orders of magnitude over past results.
