Outdoor air pollution has been recently classified as a class I human carcinogen by the World Health Organization(WHO). Cumulative evidence from across the globe shows that polluted air is associated with increased risk of lung, head and neck, and nasopharyngeal cancers—all of which affect the upper aerodigestive tract. Importantly, these cancers have been previously linked to smoking. In this article, we review epidemiologic and experimental evidence of the genotoxic and mutagenic effects of air pollution on DNA, purportedly a key mechanism for cancer development. The alarming increase in cancers of the upper aerodigestive tract in Asia suggests a need to focus government efforts and research on reducing air pollution, promoting clean energy, and investigating the carcinogenic effects of air pollution on humans.

To the Editor:Extraovarian primary peritoneal carcinoma(EOPPC)is an uncommon malignancy with many similarities to epithelial ovarian carcinoma in histological,clinical,and etiological aspects[1].This phenomenon is explained by their common embryonal origin,in which both develop from the coelomic epithelium in the early embryological *** their similarities,the incidence of EOPPC is significantly lower than that of epithelial ovarian carcinoma(6.78 cases per million vs.120.5 cases per million)[1].

Heterogeneous information networks(HINs)have been extensively applied to real-world tasks,such as recommendation systems,social networks,and citation *** existing HIN representation learning methods can effectively learn the semantic and structural features in the network,little awareness was given to the distribution discrepancy of subgraphs within a single ***,we find that ignoring such distribution discrepancy among subgraphs from multiple sources would hinder the effectiveness of graph embedding learning *** motivates us to propose SUMSHINE(Scalable Unsupervised Multi-Source Heterogeneous Information Network Embedding)-a scalable unsupervised framework to align the embedding distributions among multiple sources of an *** results on real-world datasets in a variety of downstream tasks validate the performance of our method over the state-of-the-art heterogeneous information network embedding algorithms.

Towards optimum Franson interference recurrence in mode-locked singly-filtered biphoton frequency combs

Mode-locked biphoton frequency combs exhibit multiple discrete comblike temporal correlations from the Fourier transform of its phase-coherent frequency *** temporal correlation and Franson interferometry are valuable tools for analyzing the joint properties of biphoton frequency combs,and the latter has proven to be essential for testing the fundamental quantum nature,the time-energy entanglement distribution,and the large-alphabet quantum key ***,the Franson recurrence interference visibility in biphoton frequency combs unavoidably experiences a falloff that deteriorates the quality of time-energy entanglement and channel capacity for longer cavity round *** this paper,we provide a new method to address this problem towards optimum Franson interference *** first observe mode-locked temporal oscillations in a5.03 GHz free-spectral range singly filtered biphoton frequency comb using only commercial ***,we observe similar falloff trend of time-energy entanglement in 15.15 GHz and 5.03 GHz free-spectral range singly filtered biphoton frequency combs,whereas,the optimum central time-bin accidental-subtracted visibility over 97%for both ***,we find that by increasing the cavity finesse F,we can enhance the detection probability in temporal correlations and towards optimum Franson interference recurrence in our singly filtered biphoton frequency *** the first time,via a higher cavity finesse F of 45.92 with a 15.11 GHz free-spectral range singly filtered biphoton frequency comb,we present an experimental≈3.13-fold improvement of the Franson visibility compared to the Franson visibility with a cavity finesse F of 11.14 at the sixth time *** optimum Franson interference recurrence and a time-bin Schmidt number near 16 effective modes in similar free-spectral range cavity are predicted with a finesse F of *** configuration is versatile and robust against changes in cavity parameters that can be d
