Adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy can serve as a model for diabetic cardiomyopathy ——a hypothesis

Diabetic cardiomyopathy is one of the life threatening complications of diabetes. A number of animal models are being used for studying diabetic cardiomyopathy. In laboratory animal models, induction of cardiomyopathy happens in two stages: first being the induction of diabetic condition and the second being the induction of cardiomyopathy by prolonging diabetic condition. It takes a longer time to develop diabetes with the limited success rate for development of cardiomyopathy. Adriamycin is an effective anticancer drug limited by its major side-effect cardiomyopathy. A number of features of Adriamycin treatment mimics diabetes. We postulate that Adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy might be used as a model system to study diabetic cardiomyopathy in rodents since a number of features of both the cardiomyopathies overlap. Left ventricular hypertrophy, systolic and diastolic dysfunction, myofibrillar loss, and fibrosis are hallmarks of both of the cardiomyopathies. At the molecular level, calcium signaling, endoplasmic reticulum stress, advance glycation endproduct activation, mitochondrial dysfunction,inflammation, lipotoxicity and oxidative stress are similar in both the *** signature profile of both the cardiomyopathies shares commonalities. In conclusion,we suggest that Adriamycin induced cardiomyopathic animal model can be used for studying diabetic cardiomyopathy and would save time for researchers working on cardiomyopathy developed in rodent using the traditional method.

TLP bonding of dissimilar FSX-414/IN738 system with MbF80 interlayer: Prediction of solid/liquid interface location

Isothermal solidification process of a dissimilar transient liquid phase （TLP） bonding of FSX-414/MbF80/IN738 system was simulated by finite difference method. The TLP joint model was divided into two parts and a moving liquid /solid interface model was used for the parts. Diffusion equations were solved for each half of the joints simultaneously up to the end of isothermal solidification. The completion time of isothermal solidification, concentration profiles and position of the solid/liquid interface for each half were calculated. The intersection of the solid/liquid interfaces of two halves was considered the end of isothermal solidification. To obtain some required diffusion data, TLP bonding of FSX-414/MbF80/IN738 was performed at different temperature and time under vacuum atmosphere. The calculated results show good agreement with the experimental results.

background:Rice is a major cereal crop and staple food of eastern India,and most farmers depend solely on rice for their *** farming provides both tangible and non-tangible benefits to ecosystems which need to be maintained and *** benefits are provided through ecosystem services(ES)that include both marketable and ***:In this study,the rice farms in eastern India were valued by quantifying the economic value of the services under conventional method of rice cultivation and the gap of ecosystem services value and farm income per unit area were assessed.A stratified random sampling technique was used in this study for selection of agro-climatic zones,districts,blocks,gram panchayat,and study units(households).Soil sampling was also performed for assessing the regulating services(biocontrol of pests,carbon flow,soil erosion,nitrogen fixation),provisioning services(food and by-products),and supporting services(soil fertility,hydrological flow,nutrient cycling,and soil formation).Results:The results indicated that the total economic value of ecosystem services ranged from US$1238 to 1688 ha−1 year−*** marketed(primary production)and non-marketed ecosystem services values ranged from 66–89 to 11–34%of the total,*** of some of the ecosystem services such as cultural services,biodiversity,and gas regulation,which may play a significant role in total ecosystem services,has not been made due to non-availability of data and appropriate methodology for rice *** values of parameters can explain the variability in ecosystem services among the agro-climatic zones in eastern *** of locations based on variability of ecosystem services helps in identifying intervention points for sustaining and improving ecosystem services,while permitting sustainable agro-ecological *** highest total economic gap between ES value and farm income was found in the north central plateau zone(US$

bACKGROUND:Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytripta-mine) is a free radical scavenger and a strong antioxidant,secreted by the pineal *** this study,we evaluated the effects of decreasing and increasing serum melatonin levels on malonyldialdehyde (MDA),superoxide dismutase (SOD),and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels in pancreatic tissue from rats with experimental acute ***:Experimental acute pancreatitis was induced in three groups of Wistar albino rats (10 animals per group) by pancreatic ductal *** first group had only acute pancreatitis and served as the *** pinealectomy was added to acute pancreatitis in the second group,removing the source of endogenous melatonin (low melatonin levels group).The third group was given 0.1 ml daily intraperitoneal injections of 20 mg/ml melatonin solution for one week (high melatonin levels group).The effects of melatonin levels were evaluated by comparison of the levels of MDA,SOD,and GS in pancreatic ***:We found that intraperitoneal melatonin injections decreased the levels of MDA and increased the levels of SOD and GSH in pancreatic ***:Exogenous melatonin has a preventive effect on lipid peroxidation and oxidative damage in acute pancreatitis.

Continental island from the Upper Silurian (Ludlow) Sino-Korean plate

Recent field studies on Upper Silurian stratigraphy and paleontology in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (for short Inner Mongalia) near bater Obo (=bateaobao) resulted in the discovery of a small continental island with fossil invertebrates preserved as encrusters (stromatoporoids and corals) attached directly to a rocky shore surface and buried by silty clay mud. The bater island (named herein) is 610 m ×200 m in size and composed of Ordovician igneous rock (diorite). Limestone strata dating from the Ludlow Epoch (about 420 Ma) surround the island and dip away from the igneous core in a radial pattern. The encrusting fossils occur on the sheltered (south and southeast) side of the island, whereas the north side was exposed to stronger wave activity based on a basal conglomerate unit composed of diorite boulders. This is the first record of an ancient island in China and the first report worldwide of stromatoporoids as members of a rocky-shore community. The island clearly shows distinct windward

Effect of 1%brinzolamide and 0.5%timolol fixed combination on intraocular pressure after cataract surgery with phacoemulsification

AIM:To evaluate the effect of brinzolamide-timolol fixed combination on intraocular pressure(IOP)after cataract ***:The study included 92 eyes of 87 patients who underwent cataract surgery and intraocular lens *** scheduled for phacoemulsification were assigned to 1 of 2 *** treatment group received 1 drop of brinzolamide-timolol fixed combination immediately after surgery,and the control group received no *** IOP was measured preoperatively and at 2h and 24h ***:The mean IOP change was lower in the treatment group than in the control group at 2h *** difference between the mean IOP values of the two groups at 2h postoperatively was found to be statistically ***-four hours after the surgery,the mean IOP change was still higher in the control group when compared to the treatment ***:The fixed combination brinzolamidetimolol can effectively reduce IOP after cataract surgery.

An Exponential Series Method for the Solution of Free Convection boundary Layer Flow in a Saturated Porous Medium

Third order nonlinear ordinary differential equation, subject to appropriate boundary conditions, arising in fluid mechanics is solved exactly using more suggestive schemes- Dirichlet series and method of stretching variables. These methods have advantages over pure numerical methods in obtaining derived quantities accurately for various values of the parameters involved at a stretch and are valid in a much larger domain compared with classical numerical schemes.
