We present a stability and error analysis of an embedded-hybridized discontinuous Galerkin(EDG-HDG)finite element method for coupled Stokes-Darcy flow and *** flow problem,governed by the Stokes-Darcy equations,is discretized by a recently introduced exactly mass conserving EDG-HDG method while an embedded discontinuous Galerkin(EDG)method is used to discretize the transport *** show that the coupled flow and transport discretization are compatible and ***,we show the existence and uniqueness of the semi-discrete transport problem and develop optimal a priori error *** provide numerical examples illustrating the theoretical *** particu-lar,we compare the compatible EDG-HDG discretization to a discretization of the coupled Stokes-Darcy and transport problem that is not *** demonstrate that where the incompatible discretization may result in spurious oscillations in the solution to the trans-port problem,the compatible discretization is free of *** additional numerical example with realistic parameters is also presented.

Background:Conjunctival lymphoma,conjunctival amyloidosis and benign reactive lymphoid hyperplasia(BRlH)are conditions that often have a similar appearance on the ocular *** use of high resolution anterior segment optical coherence tomography(HR-OCT)enables clinicians to evaluate distinctive differences in tissue morphology and cellular patterns in various ocular surface *** this study,we characterize the morphological differences seen in conjunctival lymphoma,conjunctival amyloidosis and BRlH on HR-OCT ***:A retrospective chart review was performed of patients with biopsy proven conjunctival lymphoma,conjunctival amyloidosis and BRlH between 2012 and 2019 at the Bascom Palmer Eye *** were excluded if HR-OCT imaging was not performed on initial ***:Thirty-four total eyes of 27 patients were *** eyes had conjunctival lymphoma(16 patients),8 eyes had conjunctival amyloidosis(6 patients)and 6 eyes had BRlH(5 patients).All conditions appeared clinically as pink,red or yellow subepithelial lesions but had different features on *** lymphoma,HR-OCT images typically showed homogenous,dark subepithelial lesions with smooth borders,containing monomorphic dot-like ***-OCT images of amyloidosis typically showed heterogeneous,dark lesions with irregular borders,often containing hyperreflective linear ***-OCT images of BRlH showed variable infiltration of the subepithelial tissue,at times with homogenous lesions containing dot-like infiltrates like lymphoma and other times with more hyperreflective,subepithelial *** cytometry and gene rearrangement was needed for final differentiation between BRlH and lymphoma ***:Distinctive features on HR-OCT of conjunctival lymphoma,conjunctival amyloidosis and BRlH can help characterize these lesions beyond what is apparent with the clinical *** studies can further validate this technology’s use with m

Silk fibroin(SF)can be used to construct various stiff material interfaces to support bone *** essential preparatory step is to partially transform SF molecules from random coils toβ-sheets to render the material water ***,the influence of the SF conformation on osteogenic cell behavior at the material interface remains ***,three stiff SF substrates were prepared by varying theβ-sheet content(high,medium,and low).The substrates had a comparable chemical composition,surface topography,and *** adsorbed fibronectin was used as a model cellular adhesive protein,the stability of the adsorbed protein-material interface,in terms of the surface stability of the SF substrates and the accompanying fibronectin detachment resistance,increased with the increasingβ-sheet content of the SF ***,(i)larger areas of cytoskeleton-associated focal adhesions,(ii)higher orders of cytoskeletal organization and(iii)more elongated cell spreading were observed for bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells(BMSCs)cultured on SF substrates with high ***β-sheet contents,along with enhanced nuclear translocation and activation of YAP/TAZ and ***,osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs was stimulated on highβ-sheet *** results indicated that theβ-sheet content influences osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs on SF materials in vitro by modulating the stability of the adsorbed protein-material interface,which proceeds via protein-focal adhesion-cytoskeleton links and subsequent intracellular *** findings emphasize the role of the stability of the adsorbed protein-material interface in cellular mechanotransduction and the perception of stiff SF substrates with differentβ-sheet contents,which should not be overlooked when engineering stiff biomaterials.
