Nurses’ Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Regarding Personal Protective Equipment for the Prevention of COVID-19 in Public Hospitals Khartoum State Sudan 2022

Since December 2019, there had been a series of unexplained cases of pneumonia reported in Wuhan, China, and on 12 January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) named this new virus as the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). The Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an emerging, rapidly changing global health challenge affecting all sectors, including the health sector. This study aimed to investigate nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding the prevention and control of COVID-19. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among nurses in three public health hospitals in Khartoum state. A self-administered questionnaire was used. A total of 14 knowledge questions were adopted. There are 5 questions constructed for attitude. A total of 12 practice questions were used. Mean score of knowledge considers as follows when the mean more than 75% considers as good knowledge while this percent uses as good practice and poor practice respectively to analyze the mean score differences of knowledge, attitudes, and practices between the independent variables. Spearman correlation was used to assess the relationship between mean knowledge and attitude scores. Results: Of the 101 nurses approached, a total of 100 nurses responded (99.0% response rate). The mean age of the participants was 27.6 (SD 5.3) years, and the majority of the participants were male (293/434, 67.5%). The mean knowledge score was 1.01 (SD 0.100). The mean attitude score was 10.5 (SD 4.1), and 54.8% (238/434) of the participants had a good attitude toward COVID-19. The mean practice score was 1.4176 (SD 1.4176). There was a negative correlation between knowledge and attitude scores (P < -0.014) and between knowledge and practice scores (P < -0.081). Conclusions: The overall levels of knowledge and practice and attitude were good.

Comparison of the Groundwater Quality in the West Tahta Area, Upper Egypt in 1989 and 2011

Egypt is characterized by arid climate with rare rainfall that means surface water. The River Nile is the main source of water supply. The study area is located in Upper Egypt in the western desert. The area under investigation is subjected to intensive development in the last twenty years, clearly seen in the change of the agriculture and urban areas. The rapid increase of the population in Egypt especially in the upper part leads to an increasing demand for houses on the old cultivated land lead to the migration towards the desert and reclaimed new areas. These new reclaimed areas are depending on the ground water. The extensive use of groundwater and increasing fertilizing system leads to the change of the water table, characterization and quality. In this study we use the analysis of 30 groundwater samples collected and analyzed in 1989 and 28 groundwater samples collected and analyzed in 2011 from the same area to identify the change in the quality of the ground water. According the hydrogeologic data which were collected from the study area in 1989 and 2011 we found a changing water table decreasing, from 1 to 48 m in 1989 and 5 to 60 m in 2011. The water level is decreasing in the same direction towards the River Nile. The sufficient recharge and leaching and dissolution of the aquifer materials due to extensive use lead to increase in TDS which reaching to 4453 ppm in 2011. The water type in the 1989 samples is mainly NaHCO3 and in 2011 samples Na2SO4. Grid classification shows that the water samples collected in 1989 are mainly sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride extending to sodium sulphate while the water samples collected in 2011 are mainly sodium sulphate and sodium chloride. Most of the 1989 groundwater samples are suitable for drinking purposes while majority of the 2011 groundwater samples are not suitable due to high salinity.

Performance Comparison between Delay-Tolerant and Non-Delay-Tolerant Position-Based Routing Protocols in VANETs

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a new emerging recently developed advanced technology that allows a wide group of applications related to providing more safety on roads, more convenience for passengers, self-driven vehicles, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). There are various routing protocol categories used in VANETs, like unicast, multicast, and broadcast protocols. In unicast position-based protocols, the routing decisions are based on the geographic position of the vehicles. This does not require establishment or maintenance of routes but needs location services to determine the position of the destination. Non-delay-tolerant network protocols (non-DTN), also identified as minimum delay protocols, are aimed at minimizing the delivery time of the information. Delay-tolerant protocols (DTN) are used in a variety of operating environments, including those that are subject to failures and interruptions and those with high delay, such as VANETs. This paper discusses the comparison between non-DTN and DTN routing protocols belonging to the unicast delay-tolerant position-based category. The comparison was conducted using the NS2 simulator, and the simulations of three non-DTN routing protocols and three DTN routing protocols were recorded. Simulation results show that the DTN routing protocols outperform in delivery ratio compared to the non-DTN routing protocols, but they lead to more average delay due to buffering, the processing algorithm, and priority calculation. In conclusion, non-DTN protocols are more suitable for the city environment since the distance between nodes is relatively smaller and the variations in the network topology are slower than they are on highways. On the other hand, DTN protocols are more suitable for highways due to the buffering of packets until a clear route to destination is available.

Hearing Assessment among Sudanese Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients versus Non-Rheumatoid Arthritis Individuals

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease is one of the most common chronic autoimmune diseases that affect many body systems including the auditory system. Objectives: To assess hearing thresholds and to ascertain types of hearing loss among Sudanese rheumatoid arthritis patients attending rheumatology clinic in Omdurman military hospital and matching them with non-rheumatoid arthritis subjects. Methodology: This descriptive and analytic (comparative) hospital based cross sectional study conducted from October 2020 to April 2021 which include 66 RA patients with age range (21 - 60 years) matched with 41 non-rheumatoid arthritis group sharing same characteristics (nation, gender and age). Pure tone audiometry, tympanometry and acoustic reflexes were done for all RA patients and matched groups. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out using the association and correlation tests for associations and t-test for independent samples. Results: Thirty-six (54.5%) of RA patients had hearing impairment versus 9 (22%) non-RA in PTA test. Twenty-four RA cases (36.3%) showed asymmetrical hearing threshold and graph in PTA between right and left ears. Thirty-four (51.5%) right and 36 (54.5%) left ears were normal degree followed by 23 (34.8%) in the right and 24 (36.4%) in the left ears were mild degree hearing loss. Among hearing impaired RA patients;20 right ears (62.5%) and 19 left ears (65.5%) had sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), conductive hearing loss 11 (34.4%) right ears and 9 (31%) left ears. Mixed HL was in 1 right ear (3.1%) and 1 left ear (3.5%). The most common degree of SNHL type was mild in (75%) and (78.9%) in right and left ears respectively, moderate and moderate severe were (20%) in the right and (15.7%) in the left ears. Fifty-eight right ears (87.9%) and 56 left ears (84.8%) had type A tympanogram while 7 (10.6%) right ears and 9 left ears (13.6%) were type As tympanogram, one right and one left ears had type Ad tympanogram. Experimental and computational chemical studies on the cationic furanylnicotinamidines as novel corrosion inhibitors in aqueous solutions

The corrosion inhibition action of three newly synthesized furanylnicotinamidine derivatives namely: 6-[5-{4(dimethylamino)phenyl}furan-2-yl]nicotinamidine(MA-1256), 6-[5-(4-chlorophenyl)furan-2-yl]nicotinamidine(MA-1266), and 6-[5-{4-(dimethylamino)phenyl}furan-2-yl]nicotinonitrile(MA-1250) on carbon steel(C-steel) was investigated in 1.0 mol·L-1 HCl solution by weight loss(WL), potentiodynamic polarization(PP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS), and electrochemical frequency modulation(EFM)techniques. Morphological analysis was performed on the uninhibited and inhibited C-steel using atomic force microscope(AFM) and Infrared Spectroscopy(ATR-IR) methods. The effect of temperature was studied and discussed. Inspection of experimental results revealed that the inhibition efficiency(IE) increases with the incremental addition of inhibitors and with elevating the temperature of the acid media. The adsorption of furanylnicotinamidine derivatives on C-steel follows Temkin’s isotherm. PP studies indicated that the investigated compounds act as mixed-type inhibitors and showed that p-dimethylaminophenyl furanylnicotinamidine derivative(MA-1256) was the most efficient inhibitor among the other studied derivatives with IE reached(95%)at 21 × 10-6 mol·L-1. MA-1266 is highly soluble in aqueous solution and has non-toxicity profile with LC50 N 37 mg·L-1. Thus, MA-1266 can be a promising green corrosion inhibitor candidate with IE N 91% at 21× 10-6 mol·L-1. The experiments were coupled with computational chemical theories such as quantum chemical and molecular dynamic methods. The experimental results were in good agreement with the computational outputs.

Drought stress has become more common in recent years as a result of climate change impacts on the production of banana crops and other fruit *** growth and productivity of Musa spp are severely impacted by the gradual degradation of water resources and the erratic distribution pattern of annual precipitation *** aim of the work includes increased drought tolerance in light of water scarcity in the world as a result of the bananas’being gluttonous for water *** investigation was carried out from 2019 to 2020 to study the effect of potassium silicate on morphological growth and biochemical parameters of Musa acuminata L under drought stress by *** a result,drought stress reduced the morphological characteristics such as shoots number,shoot length,roots number,and survival percentage and biochemical characteristics such as chlorophyll a,b,carotenoids,stomatal status,and *** proline content increased in the leaf of *** *** complemented with K2SiO3(2 to 6 mM)either individually or in combination with PEG led to an improvement in all morphological and biochemical *** activities of CAT,POD,and PPO enzymes increased significantly compared to ***,the lowest PPO,CAT,and POD activity were ***,K2SiO3 treatments under drought stress successfully enhanced the leaf stomatal *** results suggest that K2SiO3 can help to maintain plant integrity in the tested cultivar under drought stress.

Effect of cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin enriched extenders on the quality of pre- frozen and frozen buffalo semen

Objective:To investigate the effects of non-permeable cryoprotectant,cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin,when added at different concentrations into cooled and frozen-thawed semen extended with Tris-citrate-fructose egg yolk glycerol and lecithin-based ***:A total of 40 ejaculates from four buffalo bulls were collected using artificial *** were extended with one of Tris-citrate-fructose egg yolk glycerol and lecithin-based extenders which contained different concentrations[0(control),0.75,1.50,2.25 and 3.00 mg/mL]of cholesterol-loaded *** extended semen samples were cooled to 5曟and then frozen slowly to-196曟in 0.25 mL ministraws before being stored in liquid nitrogen pending its *** motility,live sperm,normal sperm morphology,sperm membrane integrity and acrosome morphology were ***:Supplementation of cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin improved progressive motility,viability,morphology and acrosome as well as plasma membrane integrities at 1.50-2.25 mg/mL depending upon types of used extenders and stages of pre-and post-freezing process(P<0.01).The best concentration was 1.50 mg/mL at pre-freeze stage and 2.25 mg/mL at ***,greater concentration(3.00 mg/mL)of cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin had a detrimental effect compared to the control group with the two evaluated extenders(P<0.01).Conclusions:Cholesterol-loaded cyclodextrin supplementation at 1.50-2.25 mg/mL concentration could improve pre-frozen and post-thawed buffalo sperm *** most suitable concentration is 1.50 mg/mL at pre-freeze stage and 2.25 mg/mL at post-freezing.

Nutritional Evaluation and Palatability of Major Range Forbs from South Darfur, Sudan

The nutritive value of rangelands in Southern Darfur, Sudan could be improved by introduction and multiplication of nutritious forbs with the objective of increasing livestock production in the area. The present study was conducted to evaluate the nutritive value and palatability of eleven range forbs collected at flowering stage from Gahzal Gawazat, Southern Darfur, Sudan using chemical analysis. The crude protein (CP) ranged from 6.8% in Oxygonum atriplicifolium with lowest digestible crude protein (DCP) 2.8% to 16.4% in Zornia diphylla with highest DCP 11.73%. The highest and the lowest crude fiber (CF) values were obtained in Commelina spp (56.4%) and Sesamum alatum (25.9%), respectively. NDF and DMI values were maximum and minimum for Zornia diphylla (44.9 and 2.67%) and Alysicarpus glumaceus (35.3 and 3.4%), respectively. The total digestible nutrients (TDN) ranged from 57.1% in Blepharis linariifolia to 69.3% in Tribulus terrestris with highest digestible energy (DE) in later while the lowest DE was obtained in Commelina spp (2.4%). The calculated in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) was highest for the Canavalia ensiformis (50.27%) and lowest value (43.17%) for Commelina spp. Zornia diphylla, Tribulus terrestris and Sesamum alatum showed highest nutritive value, while Alysicarpus glumaceus, Oldenlandia senegalensis and Chrozophora brocchiana showed highest palatability. It is concluded that these rangeland forbs are palatable and their CP and energy contents are sufficient to support different classes of livestock in South Darfur, Sudan.

Groundwater Management in the Esna City,Upper Egypt:An Application of Remote Sensing and Numerical Modeling

The major issues concerning water development and management include water conservation and the efficiency of water use, cost recovery, social and environmental factors. So continuous monitoring is essential to evaluate the reclamation impacts on the groundwater potentiality such as Esna Area. The main objective of this work is to determine the new development areas in Esna during the period from 1984 to 2011 using remote sensing technique. The impacts of the present and future development have been evaluated by using the two-dimensional numerical groundwater flow Simulation Package (visual modflow 4.2). The package is used to construct and calibrate a numerical model that can be used to simulate the response of the aquifer in the study area under implementing different management alternatives in the form of changes in piezometric levels and salinity. From land use maps of the study area in the year 2011, a lot of changes in development areas especially out the border of the old land were observed. The change in land reclaimed area was estimated with 44% in the period from year 1984 to 2011. This development accompanied with draw down about 2.5 meters through this period of time. The authors recommend applying different kinds of change detection technique on the study area. Comparing between results, continuous monitoring of the development area is highly recommended.
