Objective Benzophenone semicarbazone(BSC) was synthesized and characterized to identify compounds with anticancer activities. methods Anticancer activities were studied against Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma(EAC) cells in Swiss albino mice by monitoring parameters such as tumor weight measurement,survival time of tumor bearing mice,tumor cell growth inhibition,and so *** hematological parameters,such as red blood cells,white blood cells,and hemoglobin content,were also measured. Results The results showed that BSC has a positive effect against EAC *** assessment was conducted by comparing these results with those obtained using the standard drug bleomycin. Conclusions The BSC compound can be considered as a potent anticancer agent.

The constitutively-expressed cyclooxygenase 1（COX-1） and the inducible COX-2 are both involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid（AA） to prostaglandins（PGs）.However,the functional roles of COX-1 at the cellular level remain *** hypothesized that by comparing differential gene expression and eicosanoid metabolism in lung fibroblasts from wild-type（WT） mice and COX-2^（-/-） or COX-1^（-/-） mice may help address the functional roles of COX-1 in inflammation and other cellular *** to WT,the number of specifically-induced transcripts were altered descendingly as follows：COX-2^（-/-）〉 COX-1^（-/-）〉 WT ＋ IL-1β.COX-1^（-/-） or COX-2^（-/-） cells shared about 50%of the induced transcripts with WT cells treated with IL-1β,*** interactive ＂anti-inflammatory,proinflammatory,and redox-activated＂ signature in the protein-protein interactome map was observed in COX-2^（-/-） *** augmented COX-1mRNA（in COX-2^（-/-） cells） was associated with the upregulation of mRNAs for glutathione S-transferase（GST）,superoxide dismutase（SOD）,NAD（P）H dehydrogenase quinone 1（NQO1）,aryl hydrocarbon receptor（AhR）,peroxiredoxin,phospholipase,prostacyclin synthase,and prostaglandin E synthase,resulting in a significant increase in the levels of PGE2,PGD2,leukotriene B4（LTB4）,PGF（1α）,thromboxane B2（TXB2）,and PGF（2α）.The COX-1 plays a dominant role in shifting AA toward the LTB4 pathway and anti-inflammatory *** to WT,the upregulated COX-1 mRNA in COX-2^（-/-） cells generated an ＂eicosanoid storm＂.The genomic characteristics of COX-2^（-/-） is similar to that of proinflammatory cells as observed in IL-1β induced WT ***-1^（-/-） and COX-2^（-/-） cells exhibited compensation of various eicosanoids at the genomic and metabolic levels.

Genus Heliotropium L. (Heliotropiaceae) in south west of Saudi Arabia has been studied;seven species of H. arbainense Fresen, H. longiflorum (D.C.) Jauber & Spach, H. petrocarpum Hockst & Steud, H. strigosium Willd, H. zeylanicum Lam., H. jizanense Al-Turki and H. lasiocarpum Fisch were collected, recognized, typed and nomenclatured. The most valuable characters were those of macro and distinct micromorphological data such as stomata, hairs, pollen grains and stem anatomy. Light microscopy has been used in these studies. From the obtained results, trichomes and pollen grains data in addition to stem anatomy indicated good taxonomic tools to differentiate between species of this genus. Different traditional measurements were strikingly also helpful for the discrimination of species. H. longiflorum was characterized by distinctive data such as prominent anatomical information, P/E (1.8 μm) in addition to presence of spindle hair which in turn can be separated as a taxonomic level. Also, the results revealed a complete affinity between the two species of H. jizanense and H. lasiocarpum. An artificial key is provided for the differentiation between the studied species.

Scheduling a sports tournament is a complex optimization problem,which requires a large number of hard constraints to *** the availability of several such constraints in the literature,there remains a gap sincemost of the new sports events pose their own unique set of requirements,and demand novel *** talking of the strictly time bound events,ensuring fairness between the different teams in terms of their rest days,traveling,and the number of successive games they play,becomes a difficult task to resolve,and demands *** this work,we present a similar situation with a recently played sports event,where a suboptimal schedule favored some of the sides more than the *** introduce various competitive parameters to draw a fairness comparison between the sides and propose a weighting criterion to point out the sides that enjoyed this schedule more than the ***,we use root mean squared error between an ideal schedule and the actual ones for each side to determine unfairness in the distribution of rest days across their entire *** latter is crucial,since successively playing a large number of games may lead to sportsmen burnout,which must be prevented.

AIm: To evaluate the effect of scleral encircling bands on the development and progression of diabetic retinopathy(DR) in diabetic ***: The medical records of diabetic patients who underwent unilateral retinal detachment(RD) surgery using scleral buckle and encircling band were reviewed retrospectively. Both eyes of patients were included in the study: one eye in each patient had a scleral buckle with encircling band(the operated eye) and the other one is the non-operated eye. The demographic characters, duration of diabetes and period between surgery and the last recall visit were retrieved from each patient. All the cases underwent fundus photo and fluorescein angiography(when indicated) to confirm the DR ***: Totally 25 patients fulfilled the inclusion and the exclusion criteria were become eligible for the study. A total of 50 eyes of 25 patients were enrolled in this analysis. The mean period of time passed from surgery with encircling band and the last reassessment visit was 12.5±2 y. Even though DR could develop in the operated eyes, it was at a less degree of severity compared to the non-operated eyes of same patients(P=0.027).CONCLUSION: Scleral encircling bands have protective effects against the development and progression of DR.

Launching a paradigm for first and redo-surgery in primary congenital glaucoma: institutional experience

AIm: To evaluate the outcome of the initial and the redo-surgeries for primary congenital glaucoma(PCG) correlated to its degree of severity. mETHODS: A retrospective study involved patients with PCG presented between 2010 and 2018. medical records were reviewed to assess the degree of the preoperative severity according to the intraocular pressure(IOP), corneal diameter and corneal edema. Success and failure rates were calculated for both first and redo-surgeries at 6 and 12 mo respectively then correlated to the severity of the cases. RESULTS: Complete records were retrieved for 272 eyes(153 patients) with PCG: 43 eyes were mild, 136 moderate and 93 severe. Combined trabeculotomy and trabeculectomy(CTT) had the highest success rate in moderate(96.4%) and severe cases(59.3%) while trabeculotomy had the highest success rate in mild cases(96.3%). medical records of 88 eyes(63 patients) with recurrent PCG were analyzed, most with severe presentation(59 eyes). Ahmed glaucoma valve(AGV) was used in 67(76%) eyes and augmented trabeculectomy in 21(24%) eyes. At 12 mo, there was no statistically significant difference between both surgeries in total success rate(P=0.256). For mild cases, success rate was 100% for both surgeries. Severe cases had higher success rates following AGV(87%) than augmented trabeculectomy(20%). Preoperative severity of the disease was an independent factor affecting the failure rate in secondary trabeculectomy but not in AGV. Patients younger than 24 mo had higher probabilities of failure following both redo-surgeries with hazard ratio =1.325 and 0.37 for augmented trabeculectomy and AGV respectively. CONCLUSION: Preoperative assessment of the severity of eyes with PCG helps in the selecting the optimal primary and secondary surgery. For first surgery, trabeculotomy is more effective in mild cases whereas; CTT and augmented subscleral trabeculectomy(SST) are appropriate for moderate and severe cases. In this research,influence of adding Li_(2)CO_(3)(at 0%,2%,4%,6%)on electrical and magnetic properties of Ni_(0.6)mg_(0.4)Fe_(2)O_(4)(with 60%Ni and 40%mg)ferrite has been *** samples are prepared by solid state reaction method and sintered at 1300℃ for 6 h.X-ray diffraction(XRD)patterns show the samples belong to single-phase cubic structure without any impurity *** magnetic properties(saturation magnetization and coercivity)of the samples have been investigated by VSm and found that the higher concentration of Li_(2)CO_(3)reduces the hysteresis *** resistivity increases with Li_(2)CO_(3)contents whereas it decreases initially and then becomes constant at lower value with temperature which indicates that the studied samples are *** dielectric dispersion occurs at a low-frequency regime and the loss peaks are formed in a higher frequency regime,which are due to the presence of resonance between applied frequency and hopping frequency of charge ***,the loss peaks are shifted to the lower frequency with Li_(2)CO_(3)additions.

A glow discharge plasma nitriding reactor in the presence of an active screen cage is optimized in terms of current density,filling pressure and hydrogen concentrations using optical emission spectroscopy（OES）.The samples of AISI 304 are nitrided for different treatment times under optimum *** treated samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction（XRD） to explore the changes induced in the crystallographic *** XRD pattern confirmed the formation of iron and chromium nitrides arising from incorporation of nitrogen as an interstitial solid solution in the iron lattice.A Vickers microhardness tester was used to evaluate the surface hardness as a function of treatment time（h）.The results showed clear evidence of improved surface hardness and a substantial amount of decrease in the treatment time compared with the previous work.

In this paper, a hexagonal shape photonic crystal fiber （H-PCF） has been proposed as a gas sensor of which both micro-structured core and cladding are organized by circular air cavities. The reported H-PCF has a single layer circular core which is surrounded by a five-layer hexagonal cladding. The overall pretending process of the H-PCF is completed by using a full vectorial finite element method （FEm） with perfectly matched layer （PmL） boundary condition. All geometrical parameters like diameters and pitches of both core and cladding regions have fluctuated with an optimized structure. After completing the numerical analysis, it is clearly visualized that the proposed H-PCF exhibits high sensitivity with low confinement loss. The investigated results reveal the relative sensitivity of 56.65% and confinement loss of 2.31×10^-5 dB/m at the 1.33%tm wavelength. moreover, effective area, nonlinearity, and V-parameter of the suggested PCF are also briefly described.
