AIM: To identify the hepatic vascular architecture of patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) using superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and investigate the use of SMI in the evaluation of liver ***: SMI was performed in 100 HCV patients. SMI images were classified into five types according to the vascular pattern, and these patterns were compared with the fibrosis stage. Moreover, the images were analyzed to examine vascularity by integrating the number of SMI signals in the region of interest ROI [number of vascular trees (VT)]. The number of VT, fibrosis stage, serum parameters of liver function, and CD34 expression were ***: There was a significant difference between SMI distribution pattern and fibrosis stage (P haracteristic (AUROC): 0.911]. The VT was significantly correlated with the CD34 labeling index (r = 0.617, P < 0.0001).CONCLUSION: SMI permitted the detailed delineation of the vascular architecture in chronic liver disease. SMI appears to be a reliable tool for noninvasively detecting significant fibrosis or cirrhosis in HCV patients.

Several applications of Origami have been tested in industrial area. However, Origami based design is found only in lamp shade and wrapping in design area, and has not been practically applied especially in clothing. In this paper, the conical truss model is applied in the clothing skirt, and the simulation software from 2D to 3D is developed by parametric Origami module （POM）. Finally, the pattern is copied on felt clothing, and the scaled model of skirt on the basis of conical reverse truss model design is made.

New experimental measurements of the phase diagram and the mixing enthalpy of liquid phase along with the previous experimental data were used in a reassessment of the Ni–Ga system. A set of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters of the Ni–Ga system is obtained using the calculation of phase diagram (CALPhaD) technique, and the available phase diagram and thermodynamic data are reproduced well within experimental error limits. Some noticeable improvements are obtained in the present work compared with the previous assessment: (1) the calculated Ga-rich liquidus is more reasonable; (2) Ni3Ga7 is adopted as the most Ga-rich compound rather than NiGa4; (3) the Ni5Ga3 phase is treated as the nonstoichiometric compound with consideration of its narrow homogeneity range; (4) the phase transformation between B81.5_Ni3Ga2 and Ni13Ga9 is considered instead of treating them as Ni3Ga2 phase simply; (5) the latest experimental data of mixing enthalpy for the liquid phase are adopted. The present study can be used as a basis for the development of a thermodynamic database of the Ni-based semiconductor alloy systems.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, characterized by minimal access, has been increasingly performed worldwide. It not only results in better cosmetic outcomes, but also reduces intraoperative blood loss and postoperative pain, leading to faster recovery; however, endoscopically enhanced anatomy and improved hemostasis via positive intracorporeal pressure generated by CO2 insufflation have not contributed to reduction in early postoperative complications or improvement in long-term outcomes. Since 1995, we have been actively using MIS for operable patients with resectable upper GI cancer and have developed stable and robust methodology in conducting totally laparoscopic gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer and prone thoracoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer using novel technology including da Vinci Surgical System (DVSS). We have recently demonstrated that use of DVSS might reduce postoperative local complications including pancreatic fistula after gastrectomy and recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy after esophagectomy. In this article, we present the current status and future perspectives on MIS for gastric and esophageal cancer based on our experience and a review of the literature.

The estimation of sloshing loading on liquid tanks is of fundamental importance due to the wide and important applications of liquid tanks in various engineering aspects. Analytical solutions for the sloshing loading on circular cylindrical liquid tanks with an interior concentric vertical thin semi-porous barrier under external excitations are presented. And the extensions of the solutions to the elastic vibrations and to the high frequency limit to count for the earthquake response are also included. A clear view on the influence of semi-porous barriers to the sloshing response of oscillating tanks is obtained by the analyses of systematic computational results. The present results may offer guidance to the corresponding design for liquid tanks of various applications and also a basis of comparison for the development of more sophisticated numerical methods for hydrodynamic and hydro-elastic analyses.

The evapotranspiration(ET)from urban vegetation is recognized as an effective way to improve the urban thermal ***,the traditional ET measurement approaches,such as the sap flow method,are limited in providing urban ET for specific ***,establishing quantitative relationship between cooling effects and ET becomes challenging,which is crucial for understanding the role of urban greenery in mitigating urban *** overcome this challenge,an estimation model based on the three-temperature(3T)model was developed for accurately estimating urban ET by employing a reference tree with accurate ET *** contrast to the 3T model,this study proposed a new method(modified 3T model)that considers the influence of the three-dimensional crown structure on the energy ***,it retains the advantage over traditional ET models by not requiring the calculation of resistance *** reduces the impact of uncertainty in the estimated resistance parameters on the ET *** modified 3T model was validated based on the sap flow method and Bowen ratio system,where the results indicated good agreement between the modified 3T model and measured ET data,with root mean square errors of 22.2 W·m^(−2) and 26.4 W·m^(−2),***,the absolute relative error of ET estimation was affected by energy-related factors,such as solar radiation,air temperature,and relative *** modified 3T model exhibited low sensitivity to surface temperatures,where the average sensitivity coefficients were below±0.15 from 0600 local time(LT)to 1700 *** the low accuracy of surface temperatures measured by infrared cameras(±2℃),it would be beneficial to combine the modified 3T model with unmanned aerial vehicles and infrared remote sensing to measure urban ET.

The estimation of the hydrodynamic loading on cylindrical oil storage tank during earthquakes is of fundamental importance in the anti-seismic design. Interior semi-porous barriers are considered being effective to reduce the hydrodynamic response of the inner fluid and the loading on the tank wall. A reduced two-dimensional source distribution method and sub-region matching technique are developed for the prediction of three-dimensional hydrodynamic forces on oil storage tanks of arbitrary sections with interior semi-porous barriers of different configurations under earthquake excitations. Excellent agreement is observed between the present results and the corresponding analytical results for a circular cylindrical oil tank with a concentric interior semi-porous barrier, which shows the validity and effectiveness of the present method. A clear view of the influence of semi-porous barriers on the hydrodynamic response of tanks during earthquakes is obtained by the analyses of computational results, which may offer some guidance to the corresponding anti-seismic design for oil storage tanks and similar structures. The method is also extended to include the effects of the elastic vibrations of the tank.
