In order to design and predict the dechlorination processes for remediating the halogenated aromatic com- pounds in the biobarrier system applied in situ, an anaerobic continuous-flow column was set up with the introduction of an enriched 2, 4, 6-trichlorophenol （TCP） reductive dechlorinating consortium. The fates of TCP and its metabo- lites were simulated according to the first-order sequential dechlorination kinetic model. The enriched TCP anaerobic dechlorinating consortium dechlorinated 100 ***/L TCP to 4-chlorophenol （4-CP） via 2,4-dichlorophenol （DCP） in 10 d. The consortium was predominated with the phylum of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes, based on the PCR- denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis （DGGE） analysis. After the consortium was applied to the colunm, the ex- perimental data in the steady state were fitted by the least square method, and the first-order dechlorination kinetic constants from TCP to 2,4-DCP, from 2,4-DCP to 4-CP and from 4-CP to phenol, were 1.58 d-1, 2.23 d 1 and 0.206 d-1, respectively. According to the fitting results, the required biobarrier width for the complete remediation of TCP, 2,4- DCP and 4-CP were 126 cm, 130 cm and 689 cm, respectively. The dechlorination/degradation of 4-CP must be in- creased when the technology is applied to the real site.

High sugar content of sorghum stalk is an important factor in the sorghum silage production. To identify the genomic regions controlling sugar content and to develop molecular markers linked to sugar content in sweet sorghum, we used an F2：3 segregating population consisting of 207 individuals derived from a cross between a high sugar content inbred line, Early Folger, and a normal inbred line, N32B, for genetic linkage mapping and quantitative trait locus （QTL） analysis. We constructed a genetic linkage map spanning 983.5 cM based on a total of 327 markers comprising 31 restriction fragment length polymorphism （RFLP） markers, 254 amplified fragment length polymorphism （AFLP） markers, and 42 simple sequence repeat （SSR） markers. In the 20 linkage groups detected, 98.2% of markers aligned to the 10 linkage groups of sorghum. Variations in sugar content at different growth stages and among internodes suggested that the sugar content of middle internodes is stable and suitable for measuring at early dough stage. The broad sense heritability （hB0 of sugar content was 0.64 and 0.62 estimated from the data of F3 families and each parent in 2003 and 2004. We identified one and two QTLs accounting for 22.2 to 25.0% of phenotypic variance using simple interval mapping method in 2003 and 2004, respectively. These two QTLs showed a negative additive effect, and over-dominance effect. A QTL on LG-D was detected in both two years. Above results will be help us to understand the genetic mechanism of sugar content in sorghum and the QTL detected in this study might be useful in the improvement of sugar content by marker-assisted selection.

BACKGROUND Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths *** lung cancer can metastasize to various organs such as the liver,lymph nodes,adrenal gland,bone,and brain,metastases to the digestive organs,especially the colon,are *** SUMMARY An 83-year-old man diagnosed with lung cancer received radiation and chemoimmunotherapy,resulting in a complete clinical *** year after the initial lung cancer diagnosis,the patient presented with obstructive ileus caused by a tumor in the descending *** elective left hemicolectomy was successfully performed after the endoscopic placement of a self-expandable metallic stent(SEMS).Pathologically,the tumor of the descending colon was diagnosed as lung cancer *** postoperative course was uneventful,and the patient is in good condition 13 mo after surgery,with no signs of *** previous 23 cases of surgical resection of colonic metastasis from lung cancer were reviewed using PubMed to characterize their clinicopathological features and *** SEMS is useful for obstructive colonic metastasis as a bridge to surgery to avoid emergency operations.

Environmental stress model is proposed as an effective tool to the analysis and evaluation of navigational safety in ports and waterways. Marine traffic simulations are carried out in a virtual port area with various arrangements and conditions. Calculations of stress values and traffic volume criteria are illustrated. The simulation results provide a valuable hint for safety management of vessel traffic. The model provides quantitative information and helps administrators in decision making to achieve desired safety level and improve the efficiency of vessel traffic in ports and waterways.

Using numerical calculation, we examine the effects of gap distance of a pair of nano gap silver prisms with rounded corners on the local light intensity enhancement. Two peaks due to localized surface plasmon （LSP） excitation are observed in a wavelength range from 900nm to 300nm. The results demonstrate that peaks at a longer and a shorter wavelength corresponded to dipole-like and quadrupole-like LSP resonances, respectively. It is found that a gap distance up to 20 nm provides larger light intensity enhancement than that of a single silver nano prism with rounded corners. Furthermore, nano gap silver prisms are fabricated by direct focused ion beam processing, and we measure the scattering light spectrum of a pair of nano prisms by a confocal optical system. However, the two LSP peaks are not observed in visible range because the sizes of the nano gap and prisms are too large.

Colonic metastasis from other organs is very *** we report the case of a 62-year-old man with a history of pancreatoduodenectomy for stage IIB pancreatic head cancer performed seven years *** presented with abdominal distension and *** the preoperative diagnosis of bowel obstruction,surgical treatment was performed,and a circumferential lesion causing bowel obstruction of the ascending colon was detected.A right hemicolectomy with lymph node dissection was *** specimen showed a 5-cm wall thickening with a cobble-stone like appearance of the ascending colon,which morphologically appeared *** examination revealed cancer nests invading from the subserosa to the muscular and submucosal layers of the *** analysis of the tumor cells demonstrated positive staining for cytokeratin 7,but negative for cytokeratin 20,which was the same as the previous pancreatic cancer *** pathological and immunohistochemical features strongly supported the diagnosis of colonic metastasis from the ***,the patient received systemic chemotherapy,but unfortunately,he died 14 mo after the surgery.

Endoscopic transgastric drainage of a gastric wall abscess after endoscopic submucosal dissection

A 63-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for further examination because of an incidental finding of early gastric *** submucosal dissection(ESD)was successfully performed for complete resection of the *** the first post-ESD day,the patient suddenly complained of abdominal pain after an episode of *** computed tomography(CT)showed delayed perforation after *** patient was conservatively treated with an intravenous proton pump inhibitor and *** the fifth post-ESD day,CT revealed a gastric wall abscess in the gastric *** revealed a gastric fistula at the edge of the post-ESD ulcer,and pus was found flowing into the *** intradrainage stent and an extradrainage nasocystic catheter were successfully inserted into the abscess for endoscopic transgastric *** the procedure,the clinical symptoms and laboratory test results improved *** months later,a follow-up CT scan showed no collection of ***,the intradrainage stent was *** the gastric wall abscess recurred 2 wk after stent removal,it recovered soon after endoscopic transgastric ***,after stent removal and oral antibiotic treatment for 1 mo,no recurrence of the gastric wall abscess was found.

The structure-property relationship,one of the central themes in materials science,is far from being well understood for metallic glasses(MGs)due to the great complexity of their amorphous *** on the analysis of published experimental data for 165 MGs from more than 15 different alloy systems,the present study reveals a universal dependence of mechanical properties(Young’s moduli,shear moduli and yield strength)on simple structural parameters(the inter-atomic distance and/or valence electron density)originating from the interatomic potential and Fermi sphere-Brillouin zone *** work establishes a structure-property relationship for metallic glasses and provides insights into the fundamentals of the mechanical properties of disordered systems.
