Pre-Weaning Growth Traits in Nigerian indigenous Pig Crossbreds

Forty-seven hybrid progenies from crossbreeding between the Nigerian indigenous pig (NiP) and Large white pigs were used. Body measurements and live weight were recorded weekly from first week of birth to their weaning date. Body measurements taken were Body Weight (BW), Body Length (BL), Body Height (BH), Heart girth (HG) and Rump circumference (RC) of crossbred progenies. The correlation between the reproductive parameters and growth performance of hybrid pigs were established with good management practice. The mean for weaning weight was 6.72 ± 0.02, birth weight 0.91 ± 0.13, litter size at birth 5.36 ± 1.87, litter size at weaning 5.29 ± 1.97, litter weight at birth 4.56 ± 1.57, total litter weight at weaning 33.91 ± 11.6, average daily weaning weight 0.73 ± 0.12, average litter size at birth 0.93 ± 0.11 and sex ratio 97.78% ± 8.61%. The male and female mean values for weight of animals were 6.96 ± 1.0 and 6.52 ± 0.9 with male heavier in weight and higher in morphometric traits such as body length, heart girth and rump circumference, while the female were high in morphometric traits such as snout length, ear length and body height. The correlation matrix for body weight against linear body measurements in pre-weaned NiP crossbreds indicates that all the parameters could be used to select for body weight. The linear equation generated by regressing body weight on snout length, body height, rump circumference, heart girth and body length could be used by resource poor pig farmers in the estimation of body weight of pre weaned crossbreds pigs if they cannot afford weighing scales.

This in silico toxicogenomic study aims to explore the relationship between phthalates and bisphenol A(BPA)co-exposure and obesity,as well as its comorbid conditions,in order to construct a possible set of genomic *** Comparative Toxicogenomics Database(CTD;http://***)was used as the main data mining tool,along with GeneMania(https://***),ToppGene Suite(https://***)and DisGeNET(http://***).Among the phthalates,bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate(DEHP)and dibutyl phthalate(DBP)were chosen as the most frequently curated phthalates in CTD,which also share similar mechanisms of ***,DBP and BPA interacted with 84,90 and 194 obesity-related genes/proteins,involved in 67,65 and 116 pathways,*** these,53 genes/proteins and 42 pathways were common to all three substances.31 genes/proteins had matching interactions for all three investigated substances,while more than half of these genes/proteins(56.49%)were in co-expression.7 of the common genes/proteins(6 relevant to humans:CCL2,iL6,LPL,PPARG,SERPiNE1,and TNF)were identified in all the investigated obesity comorbidities,while PPARG and LPL were most closely linked to *** genes/proteins could serve as a target for further in vitro and in vivo studies of molecular mechanisms of DEHP,DBP and BPA mixture obesogenic *** reported here should be applicable to any mixture of environmental chemicals and any disease present in CTD.

Dry sliding wear behavior of stir cast AA6061-T6/AlN_p composite

The dry sliding wear behavior of AA6061 matrix composite reinforced with aluminium nitride particles（AlN） produced by stir casting process was investigated. A regression model was developed to predict the wear rate of the prepared composite. A four-factor, five-level central composite rotatable design matrix was used to minimize the number of experimental runs. The factors considered in this study were sliding velocity, sliding distance, normal load and mass fraction of AlN reinforcement in the matrix. The developed regression model was validated by statistical software SYSTAT 12 and statistical tools such as analysis of variance（ANoVA） and student＇s t test. it was found that the developed regression model could be effectively used to predict the wear rate at 95% confidence level. The influence of these factors on wear rate of AA6061/AlNp composite was analyzed using the developed regression model and predicted trends were discussed with the aid of worn surface morphologies. The regression model indicated that the wear rate of cast AA6061/AlNp composite decreased with an increase in the mass fraction of AlN and increased with an increase of the sliding velocity, sliding distance and normal load acting on the composite specimen.

osteogenesis imperfecta (oi) belongs to a group of congenital osteoporosis which hallmark feature is “affecting skeleton, increasing bone fragility that fracture easily and decreasing bone density due to quantitative and/or qualita-tive abnormalities”. We report a female sibling’s involvement in 3 cases with probable recessive inheritance pattern. only female aged between 5 and 13 years were affected with skeletal lesions in the lower limbs. The boy of this family had no skeletal or extra-skeletal lesions. Their parents had no affection and no bond of consanguinity. The observed malformations can be classified as type V or Vi according to Sillence’s clinical classification. Lack of genetic test in our context has limited accuracy of the diagnosis as new data evoke a genetic classification into 12 types that leading an effective therapeutic management.

Poly-and perfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)in sediment samples from Roodeplaat and Hartbeespoort Dams,South Africa

This study aimed at determining PFAS concentrations in sediments obtained from two important water systems in South Africa,namely,the Roodeplaat and Hartbeespoort *** samples were collected in March and June representing summer and winter *** analytes were extracted using the half-dry alkaline method followed by solid phase extraction and analysed with liquid chromatography-tandem mass *** mean PFASs concentrations in Roodeplaat Dam(0.14 e89.04 ng g^-1)were significantly higher(p=0.016)than in Hartbeespoort Dam(0.03e31.37 ng g^-1).Perfluoro-n-decane sulfonic acid(PFDS),perfluoro-n-heptyl sulfonate(PFHpS),perfluoro-n-nonane sulfonic acid(PFNS)and perfluoro-n-octane sulfonic acid(PFoS)were the most dominant PFASs *** were observed to be generally higher in summer compared to winter,however,the difference is statistically insignificant(p=0.659).The perfluorosulfonic acids(PFSAs)was more dominant than the perfluorocarboxylic compounds,suggesting possible preferential usage of PFSAs in this *** findings were different from reports from China and Korea,which reported long chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids(PFCAs)in sediments as the dominant *** results also revealed that the PFAS concentrations found in the present study were higher than the concentrations found in China,Germany,and Ethiopia but lower than the concentrations detected in the Western Cape Province in South Africa.

Forgiveness and Chronic Pain: A Cohort Study

Background: Chronic pain is a major public health issue. it is a complex condition comprising biological, social and psychological elements, which can be challenging to manage. Forgiveness is a recognised effective intervention in various health conditions. Research has shown promising results using forgiveness as an intervention in the management of pain. This study aims to examine the relationship between forgiveness and other variables in patients suffering from chronic pain in the setting of a chronic pain clinic. Methods: institutional ethical approval was granted for this study. Patients attending a chronic pain clinic for the first time were invited to complete a questionnaire comprising a brief socio-demographic survey and questionnaires including the Heartland Forgiveness Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Pain and Anxiety Symptoms Scale and Perceived injustice. Results: 104 adult patients were included. The mean age was 59 years. Back pain was the most common chronic pain presentation. The Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS) was found to have a good internal consistency among the irish population. This study found that 55% of patients attending the pain clinic were not forgiving. Negative correlations were identified between forgiveness and pain, and forgiveness and injustice. Conclusion: The majority of patients attending a chronic pain clinic were not forgiving as measured on the HFS. There was a negative correlation between forgiveness and pain. The results have shown that forgiveness could be beneficial as a therapeutic intervention among patients attending a chronic pain clinic.

intercropping Cocoa with Rice and Plantain influencing Cocoa Morphological Parameters and Weed Biomass

A field study was conducted at CRiN Uhonmora Substation, Edo State in Derived Guinea Savanna Zone of Nigeria between 2007 and 2008. The experiment determined influence of intercropping cocoa with rice and plantain at early stage of field establishment. Four treatments considered were cocoa （sole）, cocoa/rice, cocoa/plantain and cocoa/rice/plantain. Spacing of 3.1 m apart was used for cocoa and plantain while rice was 30 cm. Plot laid out was randomized complete block design replicated three times. Data on cocoa morphological parameters comprising plant height, girth and leaf area as well as weed biomass were measured monthly. Cocoa survival count was also determined. Data collected were subjected to ANoVA, and LSD was used to separate the means. Survival count showed over 95% survival in all treatments without any significance differences. on plant height and leaf area vegetative growth were significantly higher （P 〈 0.05） in the intercrops than the sole cocoa but not significantly different in all the months. Plant vigour was significantly higher in cocoa/plantain intercrop. Cocoa/rice/plantain produced the least weed biomass while cocoa sole gave the highest. Therefore, cocoa/rice and cocoa/plantain intercrops could be recommended to cocoa farmers in Nigeria instead of sole planting at early age of field establishment.

17β-羟甾脱氢酶（17β-HSD）催化雄甾烯二酮转化成睾酮，已知Ⅰ型和Ⅲ型17β－HSD为催化还原反应的同功酶，本研究测定了小鼠胚胎期和出生后这二种还原型同功酶的mRNA水平。在胚胎期和刚出生的睾丸，Ⅰ型和Ⅲ型同功酶的mRNA均为高表达，出生后第5天为峰值，而后，二者的表达明显降低并持续到出生第30天，第30天起，Ⅲ型同功酶的表达明显增高。结果提示：在缺乏Ⅲ型同功酶而致的男性假二性畸型中，胚胎期Ⅰ型17β－HSD的表达可能与Wolffian管的分化有关。
