Biomolecular characterization, identification, enzyme activities of molds and physiological changes in sweet potatoes(ipomea batatas) stored under controlled atmospheric conditions

Microbial attacks during storage are one of the primary causes of product deterioration, and can limit the process of prolonging the shelf-life of harvested food. in this study, sweet potatoes were stored at temperatures of 13, 21, and 29 ℃ for 4 weeks. Samples were collected during storage and plated on potato dextrose agar, from which axenic mold cultures were obtained and identified using 26S rRNA gene sequences. Physiological changes of potato tubers were assessed with respect to pathogenicity, enzyme activity, and atmospheric storage conditions. Six fungal species were identified, namely Penicillium chrysogenum （P. rubens）, P. brevicompactum, Mucor circinelloides, C/adosporium cladosporiodes, P. expansum, and P. crustosum. The following fungal isolates, namely P. expansum, P. brevicompactum, and Rhizopus oryzae, were recovered from the re-infected samples and selected according to their levels of enzyme activity. This study revealed high levels of activity for cellulase and pectinase, which were most notable during the initial three days of testing, and were followed by a steady decrease （P〈0.05）. Polygalacturonase activity was prominent with values ranging from 12.64 to 56.79 U/mg （P. expansum） and 18.36 to 79.01 U/mg （P. brevicompactum）. Spoilage was obvious in the control group, which had a 100% decay at the end of the experimental period compared with samples treated with iprodione and sodium hypochlorite, in which the decay rates were 5% and 55%, respectively. The data for the iprodione- and sodium hypochlorite-treated samples at the end of the 3-month storage period showed that they were significantly different （P=0.041）, with the sodium hypochlorite-treated samples producing twice the rate of infection compared to the iprodione-treated samples. The comparative rate of the pro- gression of decay in the treated samples can be expressed as iprodione〈sodium hypochlorite〈control. Merging bound states in the continuum in an open acoustic resonator

Bound states in the continuum （BiCs） are perfectly localized resonances despite embedding in the continuum ***,an isolated BiC is very sensitive to the structure ***,we report merging acoustic BiCs in a single open resonator,robust against the structure *** find that both symmetry-protected BiC and friedrich-Wintgen BiC are sustained in a single coupled waveguide-resonator *** varying the height and length of the resonator,these two BiCs move toward each other and merge into a single one at a critical *** to an individual BiC,the merged BiC is robust against fabrication error because its Q-factor is proportional to ΔL-4,whereΔL embodies the structure *** essence of this extraordinary phenomenon is perfectly explained by the two-and three-level approximations of the effective nonHermitian ***,we present direct experimental demonstrations of the moving and merging of BiCs in a coupled 3D waveguide-resonator,which are evidenced by the vanishing of the linewidth of fano resonance in the transmission *** results may find exciting applications in designing high-quality acoustic sources,sensors and filters.

in this article we will present pure three dimensional analytic solutions for the Navier-Stokes and the continuity equations in Cartesian coordinates. The key idea is the three-dimensional generalization of the well-known self-similar Ansatz of Barenblatt. A geometrical interpretation of the Ansatz is given also. The results are the Kummer functions or strongly related. Our final formula is compared with other results obtained from group theoretical approaches.

Evaluation of fEMA-440 for including soil-structure interaction

Replacing the entire soil-structure system with a fixed base oscillator to consider the effect of soil-structure interaction （SSi） is a common analysis method in seismic design. This technique has been included in design procedures such as NEHRP, ASCE, etc. by defining an equivalent fundamental period and damping ratio that can modify the response of the structure. However, recent studies indicate that the effects of SSi should be reconsidered when a structure undergoes a nonlinear displacement demand. in recent documents on Nonlinear Static Procedures （NSPs）, fEMA-440 （2005）, a modified damping ratio of the replacement oscillator was proposed by introducing the ductility of the soil-structure system obtained from pushover analysis. in this paper, the damping defined in fEMA-440 to include the soil-structure interaction effect is evaluated, and the accuracy of the Coefficient Method given in fEMA-440 and the Equivalent Linearization Method is studied. Although the improvements for Nonlinear Static Procedures （NSPs） in fEMA-440 are achieved for a fixed base SDOf structure, the soil effects are not perfectly obtained. furthermore, the damping definition of a soil-structure system is extended to structures to consider bilinear behavior.

Structural,electronic,optical,and magnetic properties of Co-doped Cu2O

We investigate the magnetic properties of Co-doped Cu_2O. We studied first the electronic and structural properties of Cu_2O using the optimization of the lattice constant which is 4.18 . The calculated gap is found between 0.825 eV and1.5 eV, these values are in good agreement with the experimental results. The Co atoms are inserted in Cu_2O by means of the density functional theory（DfT） using LSDA, LSDA ＋U, and LSDA ＋ MBJ approximations in the WiEN2 k code, based on the supercell model by setting up 12, 24, and 48 atoms in（1×1 × 2）,（1 × 2 × 2）, and（2 × 2×2） supercells respectively with one or two copper atoms being replaced by cobalt atoms. The energy difference between the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic coupling of the spins located on the substitute Co has been calculated in order to obtain better insight into the magnetic exchange coupling for this particular compound. The studied compound exhibits stable integer magnetic moments of 2 μBand 4 μBwhen it is doped with 2 atoms of Co. Optical properties have also been worked out. The results obtained in this study demonstrate the importance of the magnetic effect in Cu_2O.

isometry Groups of Some Dunwoody Manifolds

Dunwoody manifolds are an interesting class of closed connected orientable 3-manifolds, which are defined by means of Heegaard diagrams having a rotational symmetry. They are proved to be cyclic coverings of lens spaces （possibly S3） branched over （1, 1）-knots. Here we study the Dunwoody manifolds which are cyclic coverings of the 3-sphere branched over two specified families of Montesinos knots. Then we determine the Dunwoody parameters for such knots and the isometry groups for the considered manifolds in the hyperbolic case. A list of volumes for some hyperbolic Dunwoody manifolds completes the paper.

Hawking Radiation of Grumiller Black Hole

in this paper, we consider the relativistic Harnilton-Jacobi （HJ） equation and study Hawking radiation （HR） of scalar particles from uncharged Grumiller black hole （GBH） which is affordable for testing in astrophysics. it is a/so known as Rindler modified Schwarzschild BH. Our aim is not only to investigate the effect of the Rindler parameter a on the Hawking temperature （TH ）, but to examine whether there is any discrepancy between the computed horizon temperature and the standard TH as well. for this purpose, in addition to its naive coordinate system, we study on the three regular coordinate systems, which are Painlevd--Gullstrand （PG）, ingoing Edding^on-finkelstein （iEf）, and Kruskal-Szekeres （KS） coordinates. in o21 coordinate systems, we calculate the tunneling probabilities of incoming and outgoing scalar particles from the event horizon by using the HJ equation. it has been shown in detail that the considered HJ method is concluded with the conventional T~ in all these coordinate systems without giving rise to the famous factor-2 problem. filrthermore, in the PG coordinates Parikh-Wilczek＇s tunneling （PWT） method is employed in order to show how one can integrate the quantum gravity （QG） corrections to the semiclassical tunneling rate by including the effects of self-gravitation and back reaction. We then show how this yields a modification in the TH.

Although vast amounts of information are conveyed by photons in optical fibers,the majority of data processing is performed electronically,creating the infamous‘information bottleneck’and consuming energy at an increasingly unsustainable *** potential for photonic devices to directly manipulate light remains unfulfilled due largely to a lack of materials with strong,fast optical *** this paper,we show that small-signal amplifier,summator and invertor functions for optical signals may be realized using a four-port device that exploits the coherent interaction of beams on a planar plasmonic metamaterial,assuming no intrinsic *** redistribution of energy among ports can provide nonlinear input-output signal dependencies and may be coherently controlled at very low intensity levels,with multi-THz bandwidth and without introducing signal distortion,thereby presenting powerful opportunities for novel optical data processing architectures,complexity oracles and the locally coherent networks that are becoming part of the mainstream telecommunications agenda.

Mixed convection boundary layer flow near stagnation-point on vertical surface with slip

This paper considers the steady mixed convection boundary layer flow of a viscous and incompressible fluid near the stagnation-point on a vertical surface with the slip effect at the boundary. The temperature of the sheet and the velocity of the external flow are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation-point. The governing partial differential equations are first transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations, which are then solved numerically by a shooting method. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. Both assisting and opposing flows are considered. The results indicate that for the opposing flow, the dual solutions exist in a certain range of the buoyancy parameter, while for the assisting flow, the solution is unique. in general, the velocity slip increases the heat transfer rate at the surface, while the thermal slip decreases it.
