We present a system for the removal of objects from videos. As input, the system only needs a user to draw a few strokes on the first frame, roughly delimiting the objects to be removed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first system allowing the semi-automatic removal of objects from videos with complex backgrounds. The key steps of our system are the following: after initialization, segmentation masks are first refined and then automatically propagated through the video. Missing regions are then synthesized using video inpainting techniques. Our system can deal with multiple, possibly crossing objects, with complex motions, and with dynamic textures. This results in a computational tool that can alleviate tedious manual operations for editing high-quality videos.

The Random Vortex Method extended to an azisymmetrical flow is used in the study of the flow field inside pipes incorporating an orifice plate with different contraction ratios and different inlet velocity profiles. Three test-cases, each having experimental measurements available in the literature, are studied. in particular, instantaneous and average velocity fields along with the turbulent statistics for high Reynolds number flows are computed and compared to the corresponding experimental *** comparisons show the ability and the citations of the method. The results of the numerical simulations are used in the physical analysis of the flow fields and thus allow for a better understanding of the dynamics of the flow in pipes incorporating an orifice plate.

The experimental study in this paper focuses on the effects of the layer orientation and sample shape on failure strength and fracture pattern of samples tested under Brazilian test conditions(*** loading of cylindrical discs)for one particular layered sandstone which is from Modave in the south of *** variations of the strength in combination with the failure patterns are examined as a function of the inclination angle between the layer plane and the loading *** experimental,results clearly show that the induced fracture patterns are a combination of tensile and/or shear *** shape effect experiments the layer thickness and the number of layer boundaries are *** blocks of Modave sandstone are used to prepare *** layer thickness is different among the various blocks,but the layer thickness in each studied rock block can be considered to be constant;hence,the number of layer boundaries changes according to the sample diameter for samples of the same *** experimental study shows that the layer thickness plays a more important role than the number of layer boundaries per sample.

AiM:To determine initial medication adherence in newly diagnosed glaucoma patients treated with anti-glaucoma ***:This retrospective and observational study included all patients diagnosed with glaucoma in the Primary Health Care units in Portugal during the years 2012 and 2013,which in consequence received a first prescription for anti-glaucoma *** was collected from electronic prescribing records of the primary care units and from pharmacy claims *** of glaucoma treatment and early discontinuation were measured,and the combination of(non)-initiation and early discontinuation accounted for initial medication(non)-***:A total of 3548 new glaucoma patients(40.1%male;59.9%female)were *** 1133(31.9%)patients were initially classified as non-users,since there was no pharmacy claim found for their first prescription for glaucoma ***,277(11.5%)patients early discontinued their treatment,acquiring only their first ***,the initial medication non-adherence rate was 39.7%since 1410 patients either didn’t initiate treatment or discontinued it ***:This study,reveals a major opportunity to improve glaucoma treatment and its control,since a large proportion of patients fail to engage with their prescribed therapy,which implies that implementation of individual or group strategies that enable patients with glaucoma to correctly perform their treatment is still needed.

Von Hippei-Lindau syndrome （VHL） is a rare autosomal-dominant, inherited familial cancer syndrome. Hemangioblastomas, pheochromocytomas and renal carcinoma are the frequent reported VHL tumors. Neuroendocrine tumors have also been described, mostly in the pancreas and rarely in the biliary trees. We report the second case of bile duct carcinoid in a 31-year-old VHL woman. She underwent right adrenalectomy for a pheochromocytoma in the past. She also had a positive family history of phenotypic expression of VHL syndrome. The patient presented with biliary colic. Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography showed intraluminal bile duct mass. Surgical exploration identified a beige nodular lesion that was a carcinoid tumor on histology. This new association should be clarified by further genetic investigations.

Aims Assessing the role of a dominant native bamboo species on tree species diversity and structure in the medium *** Over a 7-year period,we studied the natural regeneration of two dominant forest types in Southern Brazil(Araucaria Forest or AF;Bamboo Forest or BF)after a bamboo(Merostachys skvortzovii Send.)die-off between 2004 and *** study was carried out in the Embrapa Research Station in Cacador,Santa Catarina State,*** Findings The die-off provided ideal conditions for the establishment of several species and it kickstarted forest succession dynamics,which in turn affected regeneration *** species richness was relatively stable with a transitory increase between 2007 and 2014 in both AF and ***,species richness rose in BF because of a relative increase in abundance of some species(especially late and secondary species)while a plunge in some pioneer species drove an increase in ***,we found that BF has a lower diversity of recruits and that density declined over time,while AF is more diverse,with a more stable *** BF,the bamboo die-off created optimal conditions for initial regeneration development(mainly fast-growing pioneer trees),which quickly transited to higher size ***,after this initial stage of pioneer recruitment,the number of recruits dropped followed by a virtual absence of growth regardless of the species group as a result of a quick bamboo *** bamboo recreated a dense understory it reduced species diversity to original levels,suggesting a self-maintaining cycle that halts forest *** the other hand,the bamboo die-off had little impact on AF where a slow recruitment process typical of old-growth forests was *** results indicate that the die-off event had a temporary effect on species diversity *** to forests where bamboos are dominant in a similar process described in other southern South American *** the first study to obser

AiM: To evaluate the technical failures of the Bravo pH test in a population with nonerosive gastroesophageal reflux disease. METHODS: Over the course of a year, we prospectively studied a population of 66 nonerosive reflux disease patients who received a Bravo pH test. The number and frequency of all technical failures were documented, quantified and analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 66 patients, with a mean age of 41.7 years, were studied. Technical failures occurred in 15.15% of the sample. The most frequent failures were due to poor data reception (4.5%), early dislodgement (4.5%) and capsule removal (6.1%). CONCLUSiON: The Bravo capsule pH test involves a low but non-negligible rate of technical problems, a fact that must always be considered by physicians.

AiMTo compare the genomic variability and the multiple colonization of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in patients with chronic gastritis from two Colombian populations with contrast in the risk of developing gastric cancer (GC): Túquerres-Nariño (High risk) and Tumaco-Nariño (Low risk).METHODSFour hundred and nine patients from both genders with dyspeptic symptoms were studied. Seventy-two patients were included in whom H. pylori was isolated from three anatomic regions of the gastric mucosa, (31/206) of the high risk population of GC (Túquerres) and (41/203) of the low risk population of GC (Tumaco). The isolates were genotyped by PCR-RAPD. Genetic diversity between the isolates was evaluated by conglomerates analysis and multiple correspondence *** proportion of virulent genotypes of H. pylori was 99% in Túquerres and 94% in Tumaco. The coefficient of similarity of Nei-Li showed greater genetic diversity among isolates of Túquerres (0.13) than those of Tumaco (0.07). After adjusting by age, gender and type of gastritis, the multiple colonization was 1.7 times more frequent in Túquerres than in Tumaco (P = 0.05).CONCLUSiONin Túquerres, high risk of GC there was a greater probability of multiple colonization by H. pylori. From the analysis of the results of the PCR-RAPD, it was found higher genetic variability in the isolates of H. pylori in the population of high risk for the development of GC.
