The paper presents comparative kinetic characteristics of the decomposition of 2,4-dichlorophenol in a dielectric barrier discharge and a combined plasma-catalytic process. Vermiculite containing 5% zirconium was used as a catalyst. The destruction processes of 2,4-DCP proceed efficiently, the degree of decomposition increases in the combined plasma-catalytic process by a factor of 1.33 and reaches 80%. The experimental results were processed according to the first-order kinetic law (R2 > 0.97), according to which the effective constants (0.36 ± 0.04) and (0.51 ± 0.03) s-1 and the decomposition rates of 2,4-DCP (106 and 123 μmol/l·s) when treating model solutions without a catalyst and with vermiculite + Zr 5%, respectively, and the energy costs are 0.012 and 0.017 molecules/100eV. The main decomposition products present in the solution have been determined to be carboxylic acids, aldehydes, the contribution of which does not exceed 2%, as well as chloride ions, and in the gas phase they are carbon dioxide and molecular chlorine (the share of which does not exceed 1.5% of total chlorine content in the system).

MULPIC: In-line Intensive Cooling for Plate Mills

Optimizing the Preparation Conditions of Bi-2223 Superconducting Phase Using PbO and PbO<sub>2</sub>

The in-line intensive cooling has become the most powerful process in modern plate mills in order to produce higher strength and value added grades. The key to success is higher cooling rate, better cooling accuracy and uniform cooling across the length and width. Many existing Plate Mills have insufficient cooling capability or no cooling equipment at all. These Plate Mills need to add or improve their cooling capacity in order to respond to the end customer demand. However, every plant has a unique layout and hence it is difficult to incorporate a standard machine to all these customers. This paper illustrates several design techniques that has been adopted to incorporate a standard cooling machine in to existing Plate and Plate Steckel Mills. Since 2002, Primetals Technologies has commissioned many MULPiC;(MULti Purpose interrupted Cooling) machines in plate mills around the world. Until recently, most of these installations were standard MULPiC;machines of 24 m in length. However, some of the existing plate producers are looking for performance improvements by adding high flow density headers in front of existing laminar cooling sections. This hybrid configuration provides several challenges for process control as well as engineering. in this paper we discuss these challenges and the benefits associated with such a hybrid cooling machine and the steps taken to ensure a smooth and rapid design, installation, start-up and fast achievement of the results. Many new customised design features, such as, flexible hoses, new flow control valve and hybrid cooling model have been introduced to improve performance and ease integrating MULPiC;in to existing systems. This enhances the product range but minimises the costs and disruption to the existing production line during installation and start-up.

in this work, superconducting samples of type (Bi1.8Pb0.4)Sr1.9Ca2.1Cu3O10+δ were prepared, with Pb0.4 composed of Pb0.2 2+ and Pb0.24+ , at different sintering temperatures ranging from 835℃to 855℃. The prepared samples were characterized using x-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and differential scanning calorimetery (DSC). The superconducting properties were investigated using electrical resistivity and transport critical current density. Our results showed that the sample prepared at sintering temperature 845?C has the optimum value of superconducting transition temperature Tc and transport critical current density Jc.

Near-zero index (NZi) materials, i.e., materials having a phase refractive index close to zero, are known to enhance or inhibit light-matter interactions. Most theoretical derivations of fundamental radiative processes rely on energetic considerations and detailed balance equations, but not on momentum considerations. Because momentum exchange should also be incorporated into theoretical models, we investigate momentum inside the three categories of NZi materials, i.e., inside epsilon-and-mu-near-zero (EMNZ), epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) and mu-near-zero (MNZ) materials. in the context of Abraham–Minkowski debate in dispersive materials, we show that Minkowski-canonical momentum of light is zero inside all categories of NZi materials while Abraham-kinetic momentum of light is zero in ENZ and MNZ materials but nonzero inside EMNZ materials. We theoretically demonstrate that momentum recoil, transfer momentum from the field to the atom and Doppler shift are inhibited in NZi materials. Fundamental radiative processes inhibition is also explained due to those momentum considerations inside three-dimensional NZi materials. Absence of diffraction pattern in slits experiments is seen as a consequence of zero Minkowski momentum. Lastly, consequence on Heisenberg inequality, microscopy applications and on the canonical momentum as generator of translations are discussed. Those findings are appealing for a better understanding of fundamental light-matter interactions at the nanoscale as well as for lasing applications.

Americium Transmutation in the SVBR-100 Reactor

＜正＞During continuous casting of steel, the properties of mold fluxes strongly affect the casting performance, steel quality and environment of the casting operation. in this study, a high temperature microscopy technique was used to investigate the melting behaviour of mold fluxes, and a drip test method was used to determine their melting rate. The results showed that free carbon was a dominant factor in governing the melting behaviour of the fluxes, and the melting rate increased with increasing carbon reactivity and with decreasing carbon content.

One of the postponed problems of nuclear power (NP) is the problem of the management of long-lived radioactive waste (RAW), and, first of all, with minor actinides (MA), of which americium-241 is the most difficult. The aim of this work is to study the efficiency of americium transmutation in a fast reactor with a heavy liquid metal coolant lead-bismuth eutectic alloy. The article presents the results of calculations of the transmutation of americium in the SVBR-100 reactor using standard uranium oxide fuel with the addition of americium-241. The obtained values of the rate of transmutation of americium are compared with similar values for the SVBR-100 reactors on MOX-fuel and in the BN-800 reactor.
