Religion is a fundamental factor in determining food avoidance, taboos and special regulation with respect to meat. A quarter of the world population is made up Muslims. Muslims have unique dietary requirements and are very keen to uphold the tenets of their religion. This group of consumers is scattered around all countries of the world and have a high purchasing power estimated at US$ 2.1 trillion. in order to tap into this lucrative market, the food industry must understand the Muslim requirements for halal food, particularly meat and meat products. Unlike other consumer groups whose purchasing decision is guided by aspects of lifestyle, culture, diet and health concerns, the purchasing decision of Muslims is normally guided by the halal status of the meat. Many Muslims may check for the halal logo of the product before even checking the expiry date. Although the halal status of meat is often believed to be equivalent to the application of halal slaughter, practically it is much more than that. The production of halal meat consists of many critical control points from farm to table in order to ensure that the meat is produced in the acceptable manner and there is no cross contamination with non-halal materials at all unit operations. Unfortunately, the food industry is often unaware of the requirements of the Muslim consumer or often indulges in adulteration for monetary benefits. Halal certifying authorities need robust analytical techniques in areas where fraud is most likely to occur. This paper sets out to highlight the requirements of the halal food chain as well as give an overview of the methods used to authenticate halal meat products.

Selection criteria of MPOB-Angola germplasm collection for yield improvement of the oil palm

Oil palm germplasm collected from Angola,Africa in 1991 were subjected to genetic variability potential *** collection was planted in the form of open-pollinated families as trials at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board(MPOB)Kluang Research Station,Johor,Malaysia,in *** palms from 52 families and tenera palms from 44 families of MPOB-Angola were evaluated for their bunch yield and bunch quality *** objectives of this study were to determine the genetic variability among the families and performance of MPOB-Angola germplasm for yield *** analysis of variance(ANOVA)revealed highly significant differences between the dura and tenera families for most of the traits,suggesting the presence of high genetic variability,which is essential for breeding *** the duras,family AGO 02.02 displayed the best yield performance,with a high fresh fruit bunch,oil yield and total economic product at 240.40,29.46 and 37.93 kg palm^(-1)year^(-1),*** for the teneras,family AGO 03.04 recorded the highest FFB yield and oil yield at 249.25 and 45.22 kg palm^(-1)year^(-1),*** that,several families with big fruit sizes or producing a mean fruit weight of 14-17 g were also *** dura and tenera from AGO 01.01 recorded the highest oil to bunch(O/B)of 17.76%and 28.65%,*** findings will facilitate the selection of palms from the MPOB-Angola germplasm for future breeding programmes.

is Blumensaat inclination Angle (BiA) and Angle between Blumensaat line and Tibal Slope (BATS) a Risk Factor for ACL injury?

introduction: Femoral and tibial morphology posted as anatomical risk factors for ACL injuries. Samora *** found out that a decreased BiA was associated with ACL rupture. Alentorn-Geli et al. found that the angle between the Blumensaat line and the anterior tibial slope (BATS angle) was significantly greater in men with ACL injury. However, other authors were not able to reproduce the similar findings. Our study aimed to determine the Blumensaat inclination angle (BiA) and angle between Blumensaat line and tibial slope (BATS) in patients with or without anterior cruciate ligament injury. We also explored the factors influence them. Method: We elavuated 142 MRi knee done in Hospital Sultan ismail from January 2017 to November 2020. Study group was patient with ACL injuries, with or without meniscus and cartilage injuries. Control group was patient with no ACL injuries. 57 patients with history of fracture around the knee joint, multiligamentous injuries, inflammatory arthritis and tumour were excluded from the study. We recorded their age, gender, BiA, and BATS angle. BiA and BATS angle were measured in sagittal plane MRi as described by Koji iswasaki et al. and Alentorn-Geli et al. Result: 54 patients were in study group and 31 years in control group. The mean age for study group was 32.7 (8.95) year old, and for control group was 42.5 (14.54). The mean BiA for study group was 36.20 (4.542) degree, and control group was 37.25 (4.941). The mean BATS for study group was 36.33 (5.78) degree, and control group was 25.26 (6.047) degree. BiA and BATS angle did not differ in both groups, age and gender. Conclusion: Our study did not show BiA and BATS angle as an anatomical risk factor for ACL injuries. Age and gender did not affect these angles.

Using fracture-based continuum modeling of coupled geomechanical-hydrological processes for numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing

This paper describes numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing using fracture-based continuum modeling(FBCM)of coupled geomechanical-hydrological processes to evaluate a technique for high-density fracturing and fracture *** simulations are innovative because of modeling discrete fractures explicitly in continuum analysis.A key advantage of FBCM is that fracture initiation and propagation are modeled explicitly without changing the domain grid(*** re-meshing).Further,multiple realizations of a preexisting fracture distribution can be analyzed using the same domain *** simulated hydraulic fracturing technique consists of pressurizing multiple wells simultaneously:initially without permeating fluids into the rock,to seed fractures uniformly and at high density in the wall rock of the wells;followed by fluid injection to propagate the seeded fracture density *** combines the ease of continuum modeling with the potential accuracy of modeling discrete fractures and fracturing *** are modeled as piecewise planar based on intersections with domain elements;fracture geometry stored as continuum properties is used to calculate parameters needed to model individual fractures;and rock behavior is modeled through tensorial aggregation of the behavior of discrete fractures and unfractured *** are presented for previously unfractured rock and for rock with preexisting fractures of horizontal,shallow-dipping,steeply dipping,or vertical *** of a single-well model are used to determine the pattern and spacing for a multiple-well *** results illustrate high-density fracturing and fracture caging through simultaneous fluid injection in multiple wells:for previously unfractured rock or rock with preexisting shallow-dipping or horizontal fractures,and in situ vertical compressive stress greater than *** preexisting fractures are steeply dipping or vertical,and considering the same in situ

Taxonomy,distribution,and contemporary exposure of terrestrial mammals to floods and human pressure across different areas for biodiversity conservation in China

A significant research focus is placed on identifying animal species and areas at future risk to human-induced alterations of the environment and long-term changes in climatic ***,the extent to which exposure to extreme climatic events and intense human pressure can increase the risk of harmful impacts on species remains poorly *** on terrestrial mammals in China,one of the world’s megadiverse countries,we investigated patterns of contemporary exposure to floods and human pressures and determined their taxonomic representation and distribution across three major area-based conservation schemes,namely,national nature reserves(NNRs),priority areas for biodiversity conservation(PABCs),and key biodiversity areas(KBAs).Among the 440 species assessed with moderate or high exposure to floods,327(∼75%)also qualified as moderate or high in exposure to intense human *** species mainly belong to the orders Chiroptera,Eulipotyphla,and ***,there were 305,311,and 311 species with moderate or high exposure to flood and intense human pressure represented across NNRs,PABCs,and KBAs,*** findings support the prioritization of KBAs for expansion of site-based protection efforts such as NNRs in China,considering threats to species from exposure to adverse effects from both extreme climate and human pressure.

Superexchange and charge transfer in the nickelate superconductor La3Ni2O7 under pressure

Recently, a bulk nickelate superconductor La3Ni2O7is discovered at pressures with a remarkable high transition temperature Tc～ 80 K. Here, we study a Hubbard model with tight-binding parameters derived from ab initio calculations of La3Ni2O7,by employing large scale determinant quantum Monte Carlo and cellular dynamical mean-field theory. Our result suggests that the superexchange couplings in this system are comparable to that of cuprates. The system is a charge transfer insulator as the hole concentration becomes four per site at large Hubbard U. Upon hole doping, two low-energy spin-singlet bands emerge in the system exhibiting distinct correlation properties: while the one composed of the out-of-plane Ni-d3z2-r2and O-pzorbitals demonstrates strong antiferromagnetic correlations and narrow effective bandwidth, the in-plane singlet band consisting of the Ni-dx2-y2and O-px/pyorbitals is in general more itinerant. Over a broad range of hole doping, the doped holes occupy primarily the dx2-y2and px/pyorbitals, whereas the d3z2-r2and pzorbitals retain underdoped. We propose an effective t-J model to capture the relevant physics and discuss the implications of our result for comprehending the La3Ni2O7superconductivity.
