Ballistic behavior of boron carbide reinforced AA7075 aluminium alloy using friction stir processing-An experimental study and analytical approach

High strength-to-weight ratio of non-ferrous alloys, such as aluminium, magnesium and titanium alloys, are considered to be possible replacement of widely accepted steels in transportation and automobile sectors. Among these alloys, magnesium is self explosive and titanium is costlier, and aluminium is most likely to replace steels. Application of aluminium or its alloys is also thought of as an appropriate replacement in defence field, especially to enhance the easiness in mobility of combat vehicles while maintaining the same standard as that of conventional armour grade steels. Hence most of the investigations have been confined to aluminium or its alloys as base material and open an era of developing the newer composite materials to address the major limitation, i.e. tribological properties. The surface composites can be fabricated by incorporating the ceramic carbides like silicon carbide, carbides of transition metals and oxides of aluminium using surface modification techniques, such as high energy laser melt treatment, high energy electron beam irradiation and thermal spray process which are based on fusion route. These techniques yield the fusion related problems, such as interfacial reaction, pin holes, shrinkage cavities or voids and other casting related defects, and pave the way to need of an efficient technique which must be based on solid state. Recently developed friction stir processing technique was used in the present investigation for surface modification of AA7075 aluminum alloy, which is an alternative to steels. in the present investigation, 160 μm sized boron carbide powder was procured and was reduced to 60 μm and 30 μm using high energy ball mill. industrial applications of aluminium and its alloys are restricted because of their poor tribological properties. Thermal spraying, laser surfacing, electron beam welding are the most widely used techniques to alter the surface morphology of base metal. Preliminary studies reveal that the coating and layering of aluminium alloys with ceramic particles enhance the ballistic resistance. Furthermore, among aluminium alloys,7075 aluminium alloy exhibits high strength which can be compared to that of steels and has profound applications in the designing of lightweight fortification structures and integrated protection systems. Having limitations such as poor bond integrity, formation of detrimental phases and interfacial reaction between reinforcement and substrate using fusion route to deposit hard particles paves the way to adopt friction stir processing for fabricating surface composites using different sizes of boron carbide particles as reinforcement on armour grade 7075 aluminium alloy as matrix in the present investigation. Wear and ballistic tests were carried out to assess the performance of friction stir processed AA7075 alloy. Significant improvement in wear resistance of friction stir processed surface composites is attributed to the change in wear mechanism from abrasion to adhesion. it has also been observed that the surface metal matrix composites have shown better ballistic resistance compared to the substrate AA7075 alloy. Addition of solid lubricant Mo S2 has reduced the depth of penetration of the projectile to half that of base metal AA7075 alloy. For the first time, the friction stir processing technique was successfully used to improve the wear and ballistic resistances of armour grade high strength AA7075 alloy.

Research works in the recent past have revealed three major biodegradation processes leading to the degradation of trichloroethylene. Reductive dechlorination is an anaerobic process in which chlorinated ethenes are used as electron acceptors. On the other hand, cometabolism requires oxygen for enzymatic degradation of chlorinated ethenes, which however yields no benefit for the bacteria involved. The third process is direct oxidation under aerobic conditions whereby chlorinated ethenes are directly used as electron donors by microorganisms. This review presented the current research trend in understanding biodegradation mechanisms with regard to their field applications. All the techniques used are evaluated, with the focus being on various factors that influence the process and the outcome.

Biodegradable Behavior of Waste Wool and Their Recycled Polyester Preforms in Aqueous and Soil Conditions

Present study deals with the biodegradable behavior of individual components and their preforms of nonwoven biocomposites developed from waste wool fibers including coring wool(CW),dorper wool(DW)and recycled polyester fibers(RPET).A respirometric technique was employed to estimate the production of CO_(2) during the biodegradation experiments under soil and aqueous media *** groups of test samples before and after biodegradation were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTiR).Leaching chemicals such as formaldehyde(hydrolyzed)and Chromium Vi(Cr Vi)was also *** CO_(2) emission in wool fibers CW and DW indicated 90%and 60%biodegradation in soil burial and aqueous media conditions respectively,for 100 days *** fibers,20%and 10%biodegradation in soil burial and aqueous media conditions was measured respectively while the preforms of waste wool and RPET reflected 30%and 25%biodegradation in soil burial and aqueous media conditions,*** degradation of end functional groups such as carbonyl(keto and ester),aldehyde and hydroxyl were also confirmed by *** DW and CW wool fibers showed higher Cr(Vi)concentration as compared to the *** released formaldehyde results showed higher concentration for RPET preforms as compared to waste wool *** results suggest that waste wool preforms are extremely environment friendly as compared to RPET ***,waste wool preforms it can be potentially utilized for preparing biocomposite materials and associated biobased products.

Deep Convolutional Neural Networks for South indian Mango Leaf Disease Detection and Classification

The South indian mango industry is confronting severe threats due to various leaf diseases,which significantly impact the yield and quality of the *** management and prevention of these diseases depend mainly on their early identification and accurate *** central objective of this research is to propose and examine the application of Deep Convolutional Neural Networks(CNNs)as a potential solution for the precise detection and categorization of diseases impacting the leaves of South indian mango *** study collected a rich dataset of leaf images representing different disease classes,including Anthracnose,Powdery Mildew,and Leaf *** maintain image quality and consistency,pre-processing techniques were *** then used a customized deep CNN architecture to analyze the accuracy of South indian mango leaf disease detection and *** proposed CNN model was trained and evaluated using our collected *** customized deep CNN model demonstrated high performance in experiments,achieving an impressive 93.34%classification *** result outperformed traditional CNN algorithms,indicating the potential of customized deep CNN as a dependable tool for disease *** proposed model showed superior accuracy and computational efficiency performance compared to other basic CNN *** research underscores the practical benefits of customized deep CNNs for automated leaf disease detection and classification in South indian mango *** findings support deep CNN as a valuable tool for real-time interventions and improving crop management practices,thereby mitigating the issues currently facing the South indian mango industry.

Serum Lp(a) levels in patients with liver disease

Objective:The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of liver diseases on serum Lp(a) levels and also to study the relationship between Lp(a) levels with other lipid parameters and liver function tests in 32 hyperbilirubinemia patients with total bilirubin>3mg/*** results were compared with 20 healthy age matched individuals. Methods:Serum obtained from venous blood sample are used for estimating total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c ), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol(VLDL-c),total protein(TP),albumin(ALB),total bilirubin,direct bilirubin,aspartate amino tranferase(AST),alanine amino transferase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP), gamma glutamyl transferase(GGT),lipoprotein(a)[Lp(a)],serum ***:There was significant decrease in serum Lp(a) levels in liver disease patients and the decrease was direcdy correlated with reduced serum albumin levels and inversely with liver function ***:Thus the present study indicates hepatic synthetic damage has possible biochemical basis for the reduction of serum Lp(a)
