This study introduces a handheld terahertz(THz)scanner designed to quantitatively evaluate human skin hydration levels and *** device,through the incorporation of force sensors,demonstrates enhanced repeatability and accuracy over traditional fixed THz *** scanner was evaluated in the largest THz skin study to date,assessing 314 volunteers,successfully differentiating between individuals with dry skin and hydrated skin using a numerical stratified skin *** scanner measures and displays skin hydration dynamics within a quarter of a second,indicating its potential for real-time,noninvasive examinations,opening up opportunities for in vivo and ex vivo diagnosis during patient ***,the portability and ease of use of our scanner enable its widespread application for in vivo and ex vivo diagnosis during patient consultations,potentially allowing in situ biopsy evaluation and elimination of histopathology processing wait times,thereby improving patient outcomes by facilitating simultaneous tumor diagnosis and removal.

The Centro de Laseres Pulsados in Salamanca,Spain has recently started operation phase and the first user access period on the 6 J 30 fs 200 TW system(VEGA 2)already started at the beginning of *** this paper we report on two commissioning experiments recently performed on the VEGA 2 system in preparation for the user *** 2 system has been tested in different configurations depending on the focusing optics and targets *** configuration(long focal length F=130 cm)is for underdense laser-matter interaction where VEGA 2 is focused onto a low density gas-jet generating electron beams(via laser wake field acceleration mechanism)with maximum energy up to 500 MeV and an X-ray betatron source with a 10 keV critical energy.A second configuration(short focal length F= 40 cm)is for overdense laser-matter interaction where VEGA 2 is focused onto a 5 μm thick Al target generating a proton beam with a maximum energy of 10 MeV and temperature of 2.5 *** this paper we present preliminary experimental results.

Arctic sea-ice extent reaches its minimum each year in September. On 11 September 2023 the minimum was 4.969 million square kilometers(***^(2)). This was not a record low, which occurred in 2012, when the minimum was 4.175 ***^(2), 0.794 ***^(2) less than the minimum in 2023. However, the ice extent had decreased by 0.432 ***^(2) compared with 2022. Nevertheless, the summer melting in 2023 was remarkably less than expected when considering the strong heat waves in the atmosphere and ocean, with record temperatures set around the world. in general, there is a high correlation between the long-term decrease in sea-ice extent and the increasing CO_(2) in the atmosphere, where the increase of CO_(2) in recent decades explains about 80% of the decrease in sea ice in September, while the remainder is caused by natural variability.

An analysis of the off-shell H^(*)→Zz-■_(1)■_(1)■_(2)■_(2) decay width is presented for both unpolarized and polarized Z gauge bosons in the scenario with the most general H^(*)ZZ vertex function,which is expressed in terms of two CP-even(bz and cz)and one CP-odd(bz)anomalous *** SM contributions to the H^(*)ZZ coupling up to the one-loop level are also *** analytic results for the unpolarized and polarized H^(*)-Zz-■_(1)■_(1)■_(2)■_(2) square amplitudes and the four-body phase space are presented,out of which several obseryable quantities can be obtained *** numerical analysis,a cross-check was performed via MadGraph5_aMC@NLO,where our model was implemented with the aid of *** then considered the most stringent bounds on anomalous complex H^(*)ZZ couplings and analyzed the effects of the polarizations of the Z gauge bosons through the polarized H^(*)-ZZ→■_(1)■_(1)■_(2)■_(2) decay width as well as left-right and forward-backward asymmetries,which were found to be sensitive to new-physics *** focus was put on the effects of the absorptive parts of the anomalous H^(*)ZZ couplings,which have been largely overlooked up to now in LHC *** was found that the studied observable quantities,particularly the left-right asymmetries,can be helpful to search for effects of CP-violation in the H^(*)ZZ coupling and set bounds on the absorptive *** completeness,we also analyzed the case of unpolarized Z gauge bosons.

Understanding the neural underpinning of human gait and balance is one of the most pertinent challenges for 21st-century translational neuroscience due to the profound impact that falls and mobility disturbances have on our aging *** and gait control does not happen automatically,as previously believed,but rather requires continuous involvement of central nervous *** effectively exert control over the body,the brain must integrate multiple streams of sensory information,including visual,vestibular,and somatosensory *** mechanisms which underpin the integration of these multisensory signals are the principal topic of the present *** multisensory integration theories focus on how failure of cognitive processes thought to be involved in multisensory integration leads to falls in older *** emphasis,however,has been placed on specific contributions of individual sensory modalities to multisensory integration processes and cross-modal interactions that occur between the sensory modalities in relation to gait and *** the present work,we review the contributions of somatosensory,visual,and vestibular modalities,along with their multisensory intersections to gait and balance in older adults and patients with Parkinson’s *** also review evidence of vestibular contributions to multisensory temporal binding windows,previously shown to be highly pertinent to fall risk in older ***,we relate multisensory vestibular mechanisms to potential neural substrates,both at the level of neurobiology(concerning positron emission tomography imaging)and at the level of electrophysiology(concerning electroencephalography).We hope that this integrative review,drawing influence across multiple subdisciplines of neuroscience,paves the way for novel research directions and therapeutic neuromodulatory approaches,to improve the lives of older adults and patients with neurodegenerative diseases.

Associated liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(ALPPS)is an established resection strategy well into its teenage *** initial controversy,it has proven to be an effective and safe approach for primary unresectable liver remnant anatomy in high volume centers(1-5).ALPPS involves portal vein ligation and parenchymal split to obtain rapid,enhanced hypertrophy of the future liver remnant and resection during second stage of the operation(6).This allows for resection with liver remnants as small as 20%of original volume(7,8).it is the most rapid tool in achieving hypertrophy compared to other modalities(9-11).Nevertheless,ALPPS remains a contentious topic in the HPB literature(12-15).We believe that ALPPS is an excellent option for highly selected patients with expanded indications,especially when conducted by experienced surgical teams(5,16).
