Spatiotemporal continuity of surface water datasets widely known for its significance in the surface water dynamic monitoring and assessments,are faced with drawbacks like cloud influence,which hinders the direct extraction of data from time-series remote sensing *** study proposes a Time-series Surface Water Reconstruction method(TSWR).The initial stage of this method involves the effective use of remote sensing images to automatically construct multi-stage surface water boundaries based on Google Earth Engine(GEE).Then,we reconstructed regions the reconstruction of regions with missing water pixels using the distance relationship between the multi-stage water boundaries in previous and later *** applied to 10 large rivers around the world,this method yielded an overall accuracy of 98%for water extraction,an RMSE of 0.41 ***,time-series reconstruction tests conducted in 2020 on the Lancang and Danube rivers revealed a significant improvement in the image *** findings demonstrated that this method could not only be used to accurately reconstruct the surface water distribution missing water images,but also to depict a more pronounced time variation *** successful application of this method on GEE demonstrates its importance for use on large scales or in global studies.

A method is described for coating fine iron particles(~1 μm) with a uniform silica layer, produced by the hydrolysis of tetraethyl orthosilicate. The presence of a small amount of gelatin on the surface of the iron particles facilitates this process. The X ray photoelectron measurements indicated that the gelatin interacted with the surface of the iron particles by means of both nitrogen(in —NH 2 groups) and oxygen(in —COOH groups) and then bound to the silica. The silica coating increases the resistance of the iron particles to oxidation on heating in air, which makes the temperature at which an observable oxidization occurs from 330 ℃ to 400 ℃ raised.

Due to climate change, extreme heat stress events have become more frequent, adversely affecting rice yield and grain quality. The accumulation and translocation of dry matter and nitrogen substances are essential for rice yield and grain quality. To assess the impact of high temperature stress(HTS) at the early panicle initiation(EPi) stage on the accumulation, transportation, and distribution of dry matter and nitrogen substances in various organs of rice, as well as the resulting effects on rice yield and grain quality, pot experiments were conducted using an indica rice cultivar Yangdao 6(YD6) and a japonica rice cultivar Jinxiangyu 1(JXY1) under both normal temperature(32 ℃/26 ℃) and high temperature(38 ℃/29 ℃) conditions. The results indicated that exposure to HTS at the EPi stage significantly decreased rice yield by reducing spikelet number per panicle, grain-filling rate, and grain weight. However, it improved the nutritional quality of rice grains by increasing protein and amylose contents. The reduction in nitrogen and dry matter accumulation accounted for the changes in spikelet number per panicle, grain-filling rate, and grain size. Under HTS, the decrease in nitrogen accumulation accompanied by the reduction in dry matter may be due to the down-regulation of leaf net photosynthesis and senescence, as evidenced by the decrease in nitrogen content. Furthermore, the decrease in sink size limited the translocation of dry matter and nitrogen substances to grains, which was closely related to the reduction in grain weight and the deterioration of grain quality. These findings significantly contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms of HTS on grain yield and quality formation from the perspective of dry matter and nitrogen accumulation and translocation. Further efforts are needed to improve the adaptability of rice varieties to climate change in the near future.

Service members are at risk for sleep and psychological conditions affecting their readiness. Chronotype(“morningness”or “eveningness”) is strongly associated with sleep, health and performance. The objective of this study was to examine associations between validated measures of chronotype and sleep quality, daytime functioning, alertness,and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) in US service members(n=298).Although predominantly young males(who skew toward eveningness in civilian populations), these Sailors skewed toward morningness(35.6% morning, 51.3% intermediate). Eveningness was associated with symptoms of depression and PTSD(Pime in bed(Pisruption(Pime functioning and alertness(Ping types were less likely to consider sleep important for performance(Pimize service member readiness, schedules should be aligned with endogenous rhythms, whenever possible, and evening chronotypes may benefit from targeted interventions. Chronotype should be examined alongside health and readiness in service members.

Stable flies are one of the most important arthropod pests of livestock that reduce cattle weight gain and milk production leading to annual economic losses in excess of$2 billion to the US cattle *** host-seeking behavior is primarily mediated by associated odors from stable fly larval development environments and host *** present paper reports the development and evaluation of attractant-impregnated adhesive tapes to reduce stable fly attacks on *** bioassays showed that only m-cresol impregnated adhesive tapes caught significantly more stable flies(16±1)than the control tape without attractant added(7±1),with a 77%fly recapture ***-impregnated adhesive tapes deployed in cattle feedlots showed significant impacts in reducing fly population,with a total of one million stable flies captured over a period of three weeks(mean catches from 57596 to 102088 stable flies per trap per week).it further relieved cattle stress with a significant reduction of biting fly avoidance behavior,(6±0.4 cows observed with tail wagging in control vs.3±0.4 from the trap-deployed).The efficacy of the developed tapes lasted up to 1-week longevity,although 70%of m-cresol was released starting from the second *** m-cresol impregnated adhesive tape provided an 80%reduction in cattle stress due to stable fly *** is the first report of a technology developed by integrating an attractant compound into an adhesive material on a plastic film with demonstrated effectiveness in trapping biting flies that attack livestock animals.

Reliability-based design in rock engineering: Application of Bayesian regression methods to rock strength data

Reliability-based design (RBD) is being adopted by geotechnical design codes worldwide, and it is therefore necessary that rock engineering practice evolves to embrace RBD. This paper examines the Hoek-Brown (H-B) strength criterion within the RBD framework, and presents three distinct analyses using a Bayesian approach. Firstly, a compilation of intact compressive strength test data for six rock types is used to examine uncertainty and variability in the estimated H-B parameters m and σc, and corresponding predicted axial strength. The results suggest that within- and between-rock type variabilities are so large that these parameters need to be determined from rock testing campaigns, rather than reference values being used. The second analysis uses an extensive set of compressive and tensile (both direct and indirect) strength data for a granodiorite, together with a new Bayesian regression model, to develop joint probability distributions of m and σc suitable for use in RBD. This analysis also shows how compressive and indirect tensile strength data may be robustly used to fit an H-B criterion. The third analysis uses the granodiorite data to investigate the important matter of developing characteristic strength criteria. Using definitions from Eurocode 7, a formal Bayesian interpretation of characteristic strength is proposed and used to analyse strength data to generate a characteristic criterion. These criteria are presented in terms of characteristic parameters mk and σck, the values of which are shown to depend on the testing regime used to obtain the strength data. The paper confirms that careful use of appropriate Bayesian statistical analysis allows the H-B criterion to be brought within the framework of RBD. it also reveals that testing guidelines such as the international Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (iSRM) suggested methods will require modification in order to support RBD. importantly, the need to fully understand the implications of

Moth diversity in three biofuel crops and native prairie in illinois

The expanding demand for biofuel feedstock may lead to large-scale con- scription of land for monoculture production ofbiofuel crops with concomitant substantial negative impacts on biodiversity. We compared moth diversity in light-trap samples from corn, miscanthus, switchgrass and native prairie, to determine whether there is an observ- able relationship between plant species diversity and moth abundance and diversity. Moth alpha diversity was highest in prairie and was higher in switchgrass than in the other two biofuel crops. Beta diversity generally was low among the biofuel crops, and prairie shared lower beta diversity with switchgrass than with corn or miscanthus. Analysis of variance showed no significant differences in moth abundance per species among treatments. The alpha and beta diversity index findings are consistent with those of other studies on arthro- pods in biofuel crops and provide evidence to suggest that large-scale conversion of acreage to biofuel crops may have substantial negative effects on arthropod biodiversity both within the cropping systems and in the surrounding landscape.

Closing the Gap in Primary Care: A Systematic Review and interpretation

Objective: The United States faces a health care provider shortage yearly in many areas of the country, but most of all the rural areas are most impacted. The aim of this paper is 2-fold: To understand the factors that drive a medical student’s specialty choice through a systematic review article and how government initiatives consider what is important to students, to understand how other clinicians can help close the gap in primary care in the United States and what policies or barriers prevent them from doing so. Methods: This paper looks at nationally collected data, as well as meta-analysis reviews on the topic to help the reader better understand the issue of health care provider shortages. Conclusion: We must change the way we look at primary care and rural medicine. Rather than investing money in avenues that yield little return on investment, we as a nation should strategically fund and advance the scope of practice for rural medicine to make it attractive and competitive for clinicians to pursue. Being in a large deficit of clinical providers in general in our country, we must try to find new pathways to grow coverage in rural areas before our health care system is no longer equitable.
