The Museum of Human Anatomy in Naples houses a collection of ancient Graeco-Roman *** aim of this study was to use multislice computed tomography(MSCT)to evaluate and objectively quantify potential differences in cranial dimensions and shapes between ancient Graeco-Roman crania(n=36)and modern-day southern italian crania(n=35)and then to characterize the cranial changes occurring over more than 2000 years,known as secular *** authors used traditional metric criteria and morphometric geometry to compare shape differences between the sets of *** significant differences in size between the ancient and modern crania included shorter facial length,narrower external palate,smaller minimum cranial breadth,shorter right and left mastoid processes,and wider maximum occipital and nasal *** shape changes from the ancient to modern crania included a global coronal enlargement of the face and cranial diameters,with more anterior projection of the face at the anterior nasal spine,but also posterior projection at the glabella and the *** is not possible to determine whether these differences result exclusively from secular changes in the cranium or from other factors,including a mix of secular change and other unknown *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first MSCT-based study to compare ancient Graeco-Roman and modern-day southern italian crania and to characterize shape and size differences.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COViD-19),caused by the highly pathogenic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),primarily impacts the respiratory tract and can lead to severe outcomes such as acute respiratory distress syndrome,multiple organ failure,and *** extensive studies on the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2,its impact on the hepatobiliary system remains *** liver injury is commonly indicated by reduced albumin and elevated bilirubin and transaminase levels,the exact source of this damage is not fully *** mechanisms for injury include direct cytotoxicity,collateral damage from inflammation,drug-induced liver injury,and ischemia/***,evidence often relies on blood tests with liver enzyme *** this comprehensive review,we focused solely on the different histopathological manifestations of liver injury in COViD-19 patients,drawing from liver biopsies,complete autopsies,and in vitro liver *** present evidence of the direct impact of SARS-CoV-2 on the liver,substantiated by in vitro observations of viral entry mechanisms and the actual presence of viral particles in liver samples resulting in a variety of cellular changes,including mitochondrial swelling,endoplasmic reticulum dilatation,and hepatocyte *** ly,we describe the diverse liver pathology observed during COViD-19 infection,encompassing necrosis,steatosis,cholestasis,and lobular *** also discuss the emergence of long-term complications,notably COViD-19-related secondary sclerosing *** the histopathological liver changes occurring during COViD-19 infection is pivotal for improving patient recovery and guiding decision-making.

The ever increasing development of portable electronics has led to a higher demand for compact and reliable power sources. Significant resources are being presently dedicated to the study of micro machined gas turbines, because of their remarkable power density. The paper reports the procedures and the results of a series of tests conducted at the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering of University of Roma 1, to obtain the map of an ultra-micro gas turbine device, and the head losses and the combustion efficiency of the corresponding ultra-micro combustion chamber, fed by a mixture of butane and propane. This work is a part of a research aimed at the conception, design and prototyping of an ultra-micro thermo-electrical device for portable power generation. The novelty of the research consists in the fact that the thermal engine is a (ultra-micro) gas turbine set. in a subsequent stage, several different configurations have been assessed to select the most proper geometry and structural characteristics of the most relevant components (radial compressor, radial turbine, combustion chamber, electric motor and generator, bearings, regenerative heat exchanger).

inflammatory bowel disease(iBD),including Crohn’s disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC),is a chronic inflammatory disease of the digestive tract with increasing prevalence *** venous thromboembolism(VTE)is a major complication in iBD patients,it is often underappreciated with limited tools for risk *** To estimate the proportion of VTE among iBD patients and assess genetic risk factors(monogenic and polygenic)for *** incident VTE was followed for 8465 iBD patients in the UK Biobank(UKB).The associations of VTE with F5 factor V leiden(FVL)mutation,F2 G20210A prothrombin gene mutation(PGM),and polygenic score(PGS003332)were tested using Cox hazards regression analysis,adjusting for age at iBD diagnosis,gender,and genetic background(top 10 principal components).The performance of genetic risk factors for discriminating VTE diagnosis was estimated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC).RESULTS The overall proportion of incident VTE was 4.70%in iBD patients and was similar for CD(4.46%),UC(4.49%),and unclassified(6.42%),and comparable to that of cancer patients(4.66%)who are well-known at increased risk for *** carriers of F5/F2 had a significantly increased risk for VTE compared to non-mutation carriers,hazard ratio(HR)was 1.94,95%confidence interval(Ci):*** contrast,patients with the top PGS decile had a considerably higher risk for VTE compared to those with intermediate scores(middle 8 deciles),HR was 2.06(95%Ci:1.57-2.71).The AUC for differentiating VTE diagnosis was 0.64(95%Ci:0.61-0.67),0.68(95%Ci:0.66-0.71),and 0.69(95%Ci:0.66-0.71),respectively,for F5/F2 mutation carriers,PGS,and *** Similar to cancer patients,VTE complications are common in iBD *** provides more informative risk information than F5/F2 mutations(FVL and PGM)for personalized thromboprophylaxis.

This work studies the complementarity between hydro, wind and solar photovoltaic energy in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Brazil is a country highly dependent on hydro energy;however, the existent plants are not being able to cover the energy demand in recent years. in this context, the state of Rio Grande do Sul becomes important because of its potential for wind and solar photovoltaic energy, having complementarity between water, wind and solar photovoltaic schemes when hydroelectric reservoirs are at their lowest levels. This study aims to survey the complementarity of various parts of Rio Grande do Sul by proposing mathematical dimensionless ratios, focusing on intra-annual period to carry out a mapping of the entire state. it also analyses the ability to provide power supply throughout the year, through the stabilization of the energy supply, which depends on an adequate scale for photovoltaic, wind power and hydroelectric harnessing. According to the results obtained, the regions with the best complementarity indexes for deployment of a hybrid system in relation to water and wind power were the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre and the Southeast region, and the same regions also presented the best results for the complementarity between hydro and solar photovoltaic. Regarding wind and solar photovoltaic energy, the state’s northeast region presented the best results. Finally, the Northeast region of the state also presented the best results for the three energies together.

An overview of V2G （vehicle-to-grid） technology is presented in this paper, it aims to highlight the main features, opportunities and requirements of V2G. Thus, after briefly resuming the most popular charging strategies lbr PEVs （plug-in electric vehicles）, the V2G concept is introduced, especially highlighting its potentiality as a revenue opportunity ｜br PEV owners： this is mainly due to the V2G ability to provide ancillary services, such as load leveling, regulation and reserve. Such solutions have been thoroughly investigated in the literature from both the economic and technical points of view and are here reported. in addition, V2G requirements such as mobility needs, charging stations availability and appropriate PEV aggregative architectures are properly taken into account. Finally, future developments and scenarios have also been reported.

When a relatively new building is not being fully utilized, there must have existed, at one time, a change in its initial conditions. The aim of this research is to study the changes in the initial conditions which cause buildings to be underutilized and analyze whether the demolition was justified. Causes can be found in problems due to the building＇s management, as the owners make the main decisions concerning the buildings. Additionally problems are due to the location where the building is constructed because site conditions changes a lot in one generation. The use of the building can also be a cause of abandonment as the original use can end before the lifespan of the building. Architectural style can be dated as fashions and styles change rapidly. Finally, causes can be in the physical condition of the buildings： structure, construction, installations and adherence to current regulations. in this article, the authors provide guidelines demonstrating how buildings of a past generation which were initially considered obsolete, can be properly reused.
