Hong Kong, Chi.a. Dai.y meteorologi.al data and heatwave-related mortali.y counts from 2008 to 2017 were collected from the Hong Kong Census and Stati.ti.s Department, Chi.a. A case-only desi.n was adopted, combi.ed wi.h logi.ti. regressi.n models to exami.e the modi.i.ati.n effects of fi.e urban landscape characteri.ti.s under si. heatwave defi.i.i.ns. Strati.i.d analyses were conducted to i.vesti.ate age- and gender-speci.i. effect modi.i.ati.ns. i. i. found that i.di.i.uals li.i.g i. greener areas experi.nced lower levels of mortali.y duri.g or i.medi.tely after heatwaves. i. contrast, a hi.her bui.di.g densi.y and ni.htti.e land surface temperature (LST) were associ.ted wi.h a hi.her heatwave-related mortali.y ri.k. Pronounced effect modi.i.ati.ns of these urban landscape characteri.ti.s were observed under hotter and longer heatwaves, and i. older adults (age ≥ 65 years) and males. The fi.di.gs provi.e a sci.nti.i. basi. for poli.ymakers and practi.i.ners when consi.eri.g measures for copi.g wi.h hotter, longer, and more frequent heatwaves i. the context of global cli.ate change.
