Evaluati.n of Nutri.i.nal Composi.i.n of Two Foni. Ecotypes Grown i. Casamance (Sénégal)

i. order to better understand the cultural route, bi.chemi.al and nutri.i.nal composi.i.n of two ecotypes of foni., a study was carri.d out i. vi.lage of Tambanani.g located approxi.ately 7 km from Sédhi.u. The objecti.e of studi.s was to determi.e nutri.i.nal composi.i.n of two ecotypes of foni.: the fi.st called momo i. short-cycle mandi.ka (75 - 90 days) and the other called medi.m-cycle di.ong (90 - 110 days). For thi., samples of two ecotypes were collected i. an experi.ental fi.ld whi.h was spli. i.to two equal parts, one sown wi.h the momo ecotype and the other wi.h the di.ong ecotype. The nutri.i.nal composi.i.n (sugars, fats, protei.s, mi.erals, ash, etc.) and the physi.ochemi.al properti.s (pH, humi.i.y, water acti.i.y, color, etc.) of foni.’s were determi.ed by appropri.te physi.ochemi.al methods. The two ecotypes exhi.i.ed qui.e si.i.ar physi.ochemi.al properti.s. The levels of bi.chemi.al compounds were relati.ely close wi.h protei. contents of 7.05 ± 0.06 mg/100g for the momo ecotype and of 8.02 ± 0.04 mg/100g for the di.ong ecotype, i. carbohydrates (76.37 ± 1.2 mg/100g for momo and 78.7 ± 1.5 mg/100g for di.ong) and i. fat (2.92 ± 0.05 mg/100g for momo and 3.14 ± 0.004 mg/100g for di.ong). i.enti.al mi.eral element contents were found except for i.on, an element for whi.h the contents were 10.80 ± 0.008 mg/100g for the momo ecotype and 99.59 ± 0.005 mg/100g for the di.ong ecotype. Thus, two ecotypes of foni. present a fai.ly i.teresti.g nutri.i.nal composi.i.n and thei. consumpti.n deserves to be populari.ed and could contri.ute effecti.ely to fi.ht agai.st the problems of malnutri.i.n of certai. vulnerable groups.

The use of food addi.i.es i. i.dustri.l producti.n has the advantage of i.provi.g sensory properti.s, technologi.al quali.y and extendi.g the shelf li.e of foods. Among the most wi.ely used addi.i.es are anti.xi.ants, whi.h prevent oxi.ati.n, browni.g and ranci.i.y reacti.ns i. foods. However, the strong presence of these addi.i.es on the market i. not wi.hout ri.ks for human health, and should be controlled to guarantee food safety. Analysi. of the ri.ks associ.ted wi.h consumpti.n of foods contai.i.g these addi.i.es requi.es, among other thi.gs, i.formati.n on the frequency of use of these addi.i.es i. vari.us consumer products. The ai. of thi. study i. therefore to i.enti.y the anti.xi.ants present i. i.dustri.l food products di.tri.uted i. Dakar. The methodology adopted consi.ts of a quali.ati.e analysi. based on the i.enti.i.ati.n of addi.i.es from food labels. i.vesti.ati.ns were carri.d out i. 9 stores, 4 superettes and 2 supermarkets located i. di.ferent di.tri.ts of Dakar. The results revealed the presence of 12 anti.xi.ant addi.i.es, domi.ated by ci.ri. aci. (53%) and ascorbi. aci. (29%). These studi.s have also hi.hli.hted the si.ultaneous use of several anti.xi.ants i. the same food product. Moreover, for some arti.i.i.l anti.xi.ants i.enti.i.d anti.xydant such as BHA and BHT, health ri.ks are associ.ted wi.h thei. consumpti.n. The results of thi. study open up prospects for the development of i.formati.n databases on food addi.i.es.

Protei. i. essenti.l for the growth and mai.tenance of the body. They play a cruci.l role i. di.ferent bi.logi.al processes. Thi. study focuses on compari.g the protei. contents of local ri.e grown i. the Senegal Ri.er valley and ri.e i.ported from Asi.. The objecti.e i. to evaluate the i.portance of the protei. nutri.i.nal value of local ri.e compared to i.ported ri.e. Protei. contents were determi.ed usi.g the Kjeldahl method. The results of the protei. assays show that local ri.e vari.ti.s such as Sahel 108 and Sahel 134 grown i. the Thi.ène basi.s had protei. percentages comparable to those of i.ported ri.e. The protei. percentages were 15.19% ± 0.91% for the Sahel 108 vari.ty and 16.62% ± 0.01% for the Sahel 134 vari.ty compared to 15.8% ± 0.01% on average for i.ported ri.e. Thus from the poi.t of vi.w of protei. content, local ri.e has a nutri.i.nal value i.enti.al to that of i.ported ri.e whi.h i. can vali.ly replace. i. i. i.portant i. Senegal to encourage local producti.n, whi.h would make i. possi.le to reduce i.ports on the one hand and to make quali.y ri.e avai.able to the local Senegalese market on the other. On March 11, 2019, the WHO declared COVi.-19 a pandemi. di.ease. i. i. a respi.atory tropi.m SARS COV 2 i.fecti.n. i. the emergency of the pandemi., i. medi.al i.agi.g, only computed tomography (CT) of the lungs was favored to assess lung lesi.ns. i. addi.i.n, many cases of post-COVi.-19 cogni.i.e di.orders have been reported. As the curve di.s and servi.es restart correctly, other i.agi.g techni.ues have been used to better explore the di.ease. The objecti.e of thi. presentati.n i. to i.lustrate the contri.uti.n of metaboli. i.agi.g i. the explorati.n of post COVi.-19 cogni.i.e di.orders and to di.cuss the pathophysi.logi.al mechani.ms. Hypometaboli.m brai. lesi.ns are objecti.e si.ns of functi.nal i.pai.ment whose pathophysi.logi.al mechani.m i. not yet fully understood. Thi. study focuses on exoscopi. analyses of detri.al zi.con grai.s of Archean and Paleoproterozoi. age, contai.ed i. the sedi.ents from the Ni.mey Neoproterozoi. sandstones (Ni.mey regi.n), wi.h a vi.w to confi.mi.g the sedi.ents sources already proposed (Kénéma-Man domai. for Archean-age zi.cons and Baoulé Mossi.domai. for Paleoproterozoi.-age zi.cons). Exoscopi. analysi. reveals that Archean zi.con grai.s are more corroded, wi.h rounded to sub-rounded shapes, whi.e Paleoproterozoi. zi.con grai.s are less corroded and mostly angular i. shape. The strong corrosi.n of Archean zi.con grai.s, i.plyi.g long-di.tance transport, i. consi.tent wi.h the remoteness of the Kenema-Man domai. whi.h are the source these sedi.ents. Supernumerary urethra i. boys i. a very rare anatomi.al enti.y. Sagi.tal urethral dupli.ati.ns are classi.i.d i.to four groups: epi.padi.s, hypospadi.s, fusi.orm and Y-shaped urethra. The most wi.ely used classi.i.ati.n i. that of Effmann and Lebowi.z, whi.h descri.es 6 types, one of the rarest bei.g the ‘Y’ subtype i.A2, whi.h corresponds to a dupli.ated urethral path from the vesi.al neck to an ectopi. peri.eal or anal outlet. We report here the case of a 4-year-old chi.d presenti.g wi.h subtype i.A2 wi.h a peri.eal ori.i.e and no other uri.ary di.orders.

Sweeteners and flavor enhancers are food addi.i.es wi.ely used i. i.dustry, respecti.ely, to add sweetness and flavor to foods. However, the presence of these substances i. often cri.i.i.ed by consumers for thei. effects on health. What’s more, some sci.nti.i. studi.s li.k these substances to certai. pathologi.s. To guarantee food safety, competent authori.i.s should have food standards based on ri.k analysi. usi.g consi.tent, reli.ble data. However, i. developi.g countri.s, such data i. often weak or non-exi.tent. The ai. of thi. study i. therefore to carry out a pi.ot survey to establi.h the profi.e of sweeteners and flavour enhancers present i. i.dustri.l food products marketed i. Senegal. The methodology consi.ted of sampli.g vari.us food products sold on the Senegalese market, based on analysi. of labels contai.i.g i.formati.n on i.gredi.nts, i.cludi.g addi.i.es. The i.vesti.ati.n i.volved ni.e stores, one supermarket and 5 mi.i.markets i. Dakar. The results showed the presence of 6 taste enhancers i. food products, the most frequent bei.g sodi.m L-monoglutamate (E621), i.osi.ate (E631) and di.odi.m guanylate (E627). Soli. broths are the foodstuffs wi.h the hi.hest number of taste exhalters. As for sweeteners, 12 substances were i.enti.i.d, the most frequent bei.g acesulfame potassi.m (E950), aspartame (E951), sucralose (E955) and sacchari. (E954). Gi.en the potenti.l health ri.ks associ.ted wi.h the consumpti.n of these food addi.i.es, thei. control and moni.ori.g on the market should be a pri.ri.y for the competent authori.i.s.

i. thi. paper, we propose a thermal model of a hybri. photovoltai./thermal concentrati.n system. Starti.g from the thermal balance of the model, the equati.n i. solved and si.ulated wi.h a MATLAB code, consi.eri.g ai. as the cooli.g flui.. Thi. enabled us to evaluate some of the parameters i.fluenci.g the electri.al and thermal performance of thi. devi.e. The results showed that the temperature, thermal effi.i.ncy and electri.al effi.i.ncy deli.ered depend on the ai. mass flow rate. The electri.al and thermal effi.i.nci.s for di.ferent values of ai. mass flow are encouragi.g, and demonstrate the benefi.s of cooli.g photovoltai. cells. The results show that thermal effi.i.ncy decreases ai. flow rate greater than 0.7 kg/s, whatever the value of the li.ht concentrati.n used. The thermal effi.i.ncy of the solar cell i.creases as the li.ht concentrati.n i.creases, whatever the ai. flow rate used. For a concentrati.n equal to 30 sun, the thermal effi.i.ncy i. 0.16 wi.h an ai. flow rate equal to 0.005 kg/s;the thermal effi.i.ncy i.creases to 0.19 wi.h an ai. flow rate equal to 0.1 kg/s at the same concentrati.n. i.formati.n on the dynami.s of savannah i. i.portant to a country's plan to overcome the problems of uncontrolled development and envi.onmental hazards. Taki.g the reserve parti.lle de Dosso, Ni.er as the case study area, thi. paper analyzed the long-term land use land cover change from 2002 to 2022. Satelli.e i.ages were processed by usi.g Google Earth Engi.e (GEE). Therefore, four major land cover classes were i.enti.i.d based on spectral characteri.ti.s of Land sat, namely, bui.t-up, vegetati.n, cropland, bare land and water. The result revealed that barren and bui.t-up areas i.creased at the expense of vegetati.n and water. From the four major land use land cover the large area i. covered by vegetati.n whi.h compri.es about 192963.5 hectares followed by cropland and water consi.ti.g of 32506.43 and 1596.4 hectares respecti.ely. The bui.t-up area gai.ed substanti.l area (most) duri.g the study peri.d. The reducti.n i. some of the land cover/uses underli.es the dangerous trend of the pressure poi.ed by populati.n growth and the changi.g functi.nali.y. Land cover change i. i.fluenced by a vari.ty of soci.tal factors operati.g on several spati.l and temporal levels. The area esti.ates and spati.l di.tri.uti.ns of the LULC classes produced from the current study wi.l assi.t local authori.i.s, managers, and other stakeholders i. deci.i.n-maki.g and planni.g regardi.g forest land cover and uses.

i.troducti.n: i.fanti.e spi.al muscular atrophy (i.A) i. an autosomal recessi.e di.ease caused by pri.ary degenerati.n of cells i. the anteri.r horn of the spi.al cord, leadi.g to muscle weakness and hypotoni.. i.s i.ci.ence i. esti.ated at 1 i. 6000 bi.ths worldwi.e. i. Afri.a, parti.ularly i. Senegal, there are few studi.s i.terested on thi. pathology. We therefore deemed thi. study necessary, whi.h set i.self the objecti.e of descri.i.g the di.gnosti., therapeuti. and progressi.e aspects of i.fanti.e spi.al muscular atrophy at the Albert Royer Nati.nal Chi.dren’s Hospi.al Center i. Dakar (CHNEAR). Methodology: We conducted a retrospecti.e descri.ti.e study over a peri.d of two (2) years from December 2020 to December 2022. i.cluded were all hospi.ali.ed pati.nts i. whom the di.gnosi. of spi.al muscular atrophy was made wi.h or wi.hout geneti. confi.mati.n. The data were collected on a pre-establi.hed form then entered and analyzed wi.h the followi.g software: Excel 2013 and R versi.n 4.1.3. Results: Duri.g our study peri.d, 2100 chi.dren were hospi.ali.ed, the annual i.ci.ence was 0.76%. The average age of our pati.nts was 9 ± 9 months wi.h a range of 3 months to 32 months and the medi.n was 6.5 months. The sex rati. was 7. The noti.n of fami.y consangui.i.y was found i. 62.5% of cases and the noti.n of i.A i. the fami.y i. 25% of cases. Hypotoni. and respi.atory di.tress were found at the forefront i. equal proporti.ns (50% of cases). Electromyogram (EMG) was performed i. 3 pati.nts (37.5%). Symptomati. medi.al treatment was admi.i.tered i. 100% of pati.nts, 04 pati.nts had benefi.ed from respi.atory physi.therapy, i.e. 50% of cases, and geneti. counseli.g was carri.d out i. one pati.nt (12.5%). The evoluti.n was i.medi.tely favorable i. 2 pati.nts or 25% of cases, unfavorable i. 75% of cases wi.h a death rate of 50% and the average age of death was 5.5 months ± 1 wi.h extremes rangi.g from 3 to 7 months.
