The road weather information system （RWiS）, which collects and monitors weather and pavement surface conditions, has been proven effective to support winter road maintenance by improving safety, mobility, and effi- ciency. Although the geographic information systems are being widely applied for facility siting, traditional practices of sitting RWiS stations still heavily rely on the experi- ences of maintenance and operation personnel, which is time-consuming and subjective. This study develops a linear model to determine the optimal RWlS locations subject to three selection criteria： weather, traffic condition, and distance to existing RWiS sites, while considering practical constraints to satisfy specific requirements of various agencies （e.g., different weights of weather/traffic factors, various available budgets, etc.）.

Extreme weather conditions（i, e. snow storm） in winter time have caused significant travel disruptions and increased delay and traffic accidents. Snow plowing and salt spreading are the most common counter-measures for making our roads safer for motorists. To assist highway maintenance authorities with better planning and allocation of winter maintenance re- sources, this study introduces an analytical model to estimate the required number of trucks for spreading operation subjective to pre-specified service time constraints considering road geome- try, weather and traffic. The complexity of the research problem lies in dealing with heteroge- neous road geometry of road sections, truck capacities, spreading patterns, and traffic speeds under different weather conditions and time periods of an event. The proposed model is applied to two maintenance yards with seven road sections in New Jersey （USA）, which demonstrates itself fairly practical to be implemented, considering diverse operational conditions.

The ACE （angiotensin converting enzyme） inhibitors are not only drugs widely prescribed drugs in cardiovascular diseases, but also potentially therapeutic agents in dementia. Based on the findings that the ACE inhibitors could activate the c-Jun N-terminal kinase signal to increase the ACE gene expression and that the Alu element of the human ACE gene involved in regulating ACE promoter activity, we aimed to investigate whether there are different pharmacogenetic responses of ACE i/D polymorphism to the ACE inhibitors in neurons. The three reporter vectors, pACEpro（0-SEAP, p-i-ACEpro-SEAP, and p-D-ACEpro-SEAP were used to examine the transcriptional activity of the vectors responding to the lisinopril treatment using a transient-transfection method in SH-SY5Y cells. Our results showed that lisinopril increased the promoter activity of an ACE gene by 16.7%. Additionally, we found the lisinopril enhanced the ACE promoter activity of the i-form vector by 17.2%, but adversely reduced that of the D-form vector by 16.8%, as compared with the respective control without the lisinopril treatment. Firstly, our findings had proved that the UD polymorphism of ACE gene contrarily responds to the ACE inhibitors in regulating the ACE expression in neurons, which provide a novel insight suggesting genetic testing to tailor the treatment regimens in AD （Alzheimer＇s disease） patients.

Preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy characterized by hypertension and proteinuria, has been found to reduce the subsequent risk for breast cancer in female offspring. As this pro- tective effect could be due to exposure to preeclampsia-specific proteins during intrauterine life, the proteomic profiles of umbilical cord blood plasma between preeclamptic and normotensive pregnancies were compared. Umbilical cord plasma samples, depleted of 14 abundant proteins, were subjected to proteomic analysis using the quantitative method of nanoACQUiTY ultra performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry with elevated energy mode of acquisitionE （NanoUPLC-MSE）. Sixty-nine differentially expressed proteins were identified, of which 15 and 6 proteins were only detected in preeclamptic and normotensive pregnancies, ***, expression of 8 proteins （gelsolin, complement C5, keratin type i cytoskeletal 10, pigment epithelium-derived factor, complement factor B, complement component C7, hemoglobin subunit gamma-2 and alpha-fetoprotein） were up-regulated in preeclampsia with a fold change of 1〉 2.0 when compared to normotensive pregnancies. The identification of alpha-fetoprotein in pre- eclamptic umbilical cord blood plasma supported the validity of this screen as alpha-fetoprotein has anti-estrogenic properties and has previously been linked to preeclampsia as well as a reduced breast cancer risk. The findings of this pilot study may provide new insights into the mechanistic link between preeclampsia and potentially reduced breast cancer susceptibility in adult life.

明确影响不同规模城市中居民出行方式选择的关键因素及其影响路径,有助于采取针对性策略调节城市居民出行结构,进而提高城市交通系统效率,缓解交通拥堵、空气污染等“城市病”。现有研究较少关注中、小城市的居民出行方式选择,较缺少同省份居民出行方式选择的跨城市规模对比分析,不利于策略制定者运用出行方式关键影响因素调节居民出行行为。考虑到与出行行为和与出行需求相关的社会经济因素在不同规模城市间的潜在差异,有必要研究、对比不同规模城市的居民出行方式选择。以交通可达性、出行者个体属性、出行特征、出行偏好为因素构建影响居民出行方式选择的理论路径模型,并在山西省选取大、中、小城市样本,收集居民个体出行数据,利用基于未加权最小二乘法的结构方程模型,验证并探究上述因素对3类城市居民出行方式具体作用差异。通过研究发现:(1)4个建模因素对3种规模城市居民的出行方式选择的影响存在明显的差异,表明策略上的“因地制宜”是有效改善居民出行结构的基础。(2)在大城市与中等城市,交通可达性通过偏好对出行方式选择的间接影响较强于其对出行方式选择的直接影响;在小城市,出行者个体属性通过偏好对出行方式选择的间接作用比其直接作用更强。(3)3个城市中,与个体属性和出行偏好有关的间接路径均成立;然而,与交通可达性有关的间接路径并不全部成立。在大城市与中等城市,交通可达性可通过影响出行偏好与出行特征,进而间接影响出行方式选择;在小城市,交通可达性对出行方式选择的间接影响仅通过出行偏好传递。

in the previous papers, we reported the results of using inorganic semiconductor ZnO instead of chloroplast to reduce NADP to NADPH and phosphorylate ADP to ATP in the near ultraviolet light. From the facts that chloroplasts in photosynthesis can utilize the red section of the visible light and the yellow-green section proves itself the strongest part of sun light on the surface of earth, we succeeded in reducing NADP and synthesizing ATP under the action of visible instead of ultraviolet light by means Of new inorganic semiconductors. This paper reports the evidences of reduction of NADP and synthesis of ATP in the visible light with the help of a specially prepared cadmium sulfide (CdS). Furthermore, CdS can also reduce NADP to NADPH and phosphorylate ADP to ATP in the red light, which is in aocord with the electron theory of catalysis of photosynthesis. This affords a further evidence that the proposed theory is applicable to photosynthesis catalyzed by chloroplast which acts as a semiconductor.
