Uncertainty analysis of flow rate measurement for multiphase flow using CFD

The venturi meter has an advantage in its use,because it can measure flow without being much affected by the type of the measured fluid or flow ***,it has excellent versatility and is being widely applied in many *** flow of a liquid containing air is a representative example of a multiphase flow and exhibits complex flow *** particular,the greater the gas volume fraction（GVF）,the more inhomogeneous the flow *** a result,using a venturi meter to measure the rate of a flow that has a high GVF generates an *** this study,the cause of the error occurred in measuring the flow rate for the multiphase flow when using the venturi meter for analysis by *** ensure the reliability of this study,the accuracy of the multiphase flow models for numerical analysis was verified through comparison between the calculated results of numerical analysis and the experimental *** a result,the Grace model,which is a multiphase flow model established by an experiment with water and air,was confirmed to have the highest ***,the characteristics of the internal flow Held about the multiphase flow analysis result generated by applying the Grace model were analyzed to find the cause of the uncertainty occurring when measuring the flow rate of the multiphase flow using the venturi meter.A phase separation phenomenon occurred due to a density difference of water and air inside the venturi,and flow inhomogeneity happened according to the flow velocity difference of each *** was confirmed that this flow inhomogeneity increased as the GVF increased due to the uncertainty of the flow measurement.

The association of benign prostatic hyperplasia with lower urinary tract stones in adult men: A retrospective multicenter study

Objective:To examine the relationship between benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)and the presence of lower urinary tract ***:We retrospectively reviewed the records of men with lower urinary tract stones who presented to three clinical centers in Korea over a 4-year *** divided the patients into two groups based on the location of urinary stones:Group 1(bladder calculi)and Group 2(urethral calculi).We compared the characteristics of both groups and performed univariate and multivariate analyses with a logistic regression model to investigate the relationship between BPH and lower urinary tract ***:Of 221 patients,194(87.8%)had bladder calculi and 27(12.2%)had urethral *** mean age of Group 1 was higher than that of Group 2(68.9612.11 years vs.55.7414.20 years,p<0.001).The mean prostate volume of Group 1 was higher than that of Group 2(44.4727.14 mL vs.24.706.41 mL,respectively,p<0.001).Multivariate logistic regression showed that age(OR Z 1.075,95%CI:1.023e1.129)and prostate volume(OR Z 1.069,95%CI:1.017e1.123)were independently associated with increased risk for bladder *** urinary tract stones and/or hydronephrosis conferred a 3-fold risk for urethral calculi(OR Z 3.468,95%CI:1.093e10.999).Conclusion:Age and prostate volume are independent risk factors for bladder *** addition,men with upper urinary tract disease are at greater risk for urethral calculi,which may migrate from the upper urinary tract rather than from the bladder.

Durability of viral response after off-treatment in HBeAg positive chronic hepatitis B

AIM:To evaluate the durability in hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) positive chronic hepatitis B patients who discontinued antiviral treatment. METHODS:A total of 48 HBeAg positive chronic hepatitis B patients who were administered nucleoside analogues and maintained virological response for ≥ 6 mo [hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA 104 copies/mL after HBeAg seroconversion with previously undetectable HBV-DNA level. RESULTS:During the median follow-up period of 18.2 mo (range:5.1-47.5 mo) after cessation of antiviral treatment, the cumulative serological recurrence rate was 15 % at 12 mo. The median duration between the cessation of antiviral treatment and serologic recurrence was 7.2 mo (range:1.2-10.9 mo). Of the 48 patients with HBeAg positive chronic hepatitis, 20 (41.6%) showed virological recurrence. The cumulative virologic recurrence rates at 12 mo after discontinuing the antiviral agent were 41%. The median duration between off-treatment and virologic recurrence was 7.6 mo (range:4.3-27.1 mo). The mean age of the virological recurrence group was older than that of the non-recurrence group (46.7 ± 12.1 years vs 38.8 ± 12.7 years, respectively; P = 0.022). A case of hypereosinophilic syndrome presenting with intractable gastric ulcers

We report a rare case of hypereosinophilic syndrome （HES） presenting with intractable gastric ulcers. A 71-year-old man was admitted with epigastric pain. Initial endoscopic findings revealed multiple, active gastric ulcers in the gastric antrum. He underwent Helicobacterpylori （Hpylon） eradication therapy followed by proton pump inhibitor （PPI） therapy. However, follow- up endoscopy at 4, 6, 10 and 14 mo revealed persistent multiple gastric ulcers without significant improvement. The proportion of his eosinophil count increased to 43% （total count： 7903/mm3）. Abdominal-pelvic and chest computed tomography scans showed multiple small nodules in the liver and both lungs. The endoscopic biopsy specimen taken from the gastric antrum revealed prominent eosinophilic infiltration, and the liver biopsy specimen also showed eosinophilic infiltration in the portal tract and sinusoid. A bone marrow biopsy disclosed eosinophilic hyperplasia as well as increased cellularity of 70%. The patient was finally diagnosed with HES involving the stomach, liver, lung, and bone marrow. When gastric ulcers do not improve despite H pylon eradication and prolonged PPI therapy, infiltrative gastric disorders such as HES should be considered.

Comprehensive molecular characterization to predict immunotherapy response in advanced biliary tract cancer:a phase II trial of pembrolizumab

Background:Immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)are effective in a subset of patients with metastatic solid ***,the patients who would benefit most from ICIs in biliary tract cancer(BTC)are still *** and methods:We molecularly characterized tissues and blood from 32 patients with metastatic BTC treated with the ICI pembrolizumab as second-line ***:All patients had microsatellite stable(MSS)type *** of the 32 patients achieved partial response(PR),with an objective response rate(ORR)of 9.4%(95%confidence interval[CI],2.0–25.2)and nine showed stable disease(SD),exhibiting a disease control rate(DCR)of 37.5%(95%CI,21.1–56.3).For the 31 patients who had access to PD-1 ligand 1(PD-L1)combined positive score(CPS)testing(cut-off value≥1%),the ORR was not different between those who had PD-L1-positive(PD-L1+;1/11,9.1%)and PDL1-(2/20,10.0%)tumors(p=1.000).The tumor mutational burden(TMB)of PD-L1+BTC was comparable to that of PD-L1-BTC(p=0.630).TMB and any exonic somatic mutations were also not predictive of pembrolizumab *** analysis of blood and tumor samples demonstrated a relatively high natural killer(NK)cell proportion in the peripheral blood before pembrolizumab treatment in patients who achieved tumor ***,the tumors of these patients presented high enrichment scores for NK cells,antitumor cytokines,and Th1 signatures,and a low enrichment score for cancer-associated ***:This study shows the molecular characteristics associated with the efficacy of pembrolizumab in BTC of the MSS type.

Genome-wide association study identifies QTL for eight fruit traits in cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)

Kohn–Sham time-dependent density functional theory with Tamm–Dancoff approximation on massively parallel GPUs

We report a high-performance multi graphics processing unit(GPU)implementation of the Kohn–Sham time-dependent density functional theory(TDDFT)within the Tamm–Dancoff *** algorithm on massively parallel computing systems using multiple parallel models in tandem scales optimally with material size,considerably reducing the computational wall time.A benchmark TDDFT study was performed on a green fluorescent protein complex composed of 4353 atoms with 40,518 atomic orbitals represented by Gaussian-type functions,demonstrating the effect of distant protein residues on the *** the largest molecule attempted to date to the best of our knowledge,the proposed strategy demonstrated reasonably high efficiencies up to 256 GPUs on a custom-built state-of-the-art GPU computing system with Nvidia A100 *** believe that our GPU-oriented algorithms,which empower first-principles simulation for very large-scale applications,may render deeper understanding of the molecular basis of material behaviors,eventually revealing new possibilities for breakthrough designs on new material systems.
