Bone destruction induced by breast cancer metastasis causes severe complications,including death,in breast cancer *** between cancer cells and skeletal cells in metastatic bone microenvironments is a principal element that drives tumor progression and ***-derived factors play fundamental roles in this form of *** identify soluble factors released from cancer cells in bone metastasis,we established a highly bone-metastatic subline of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer *** subline(mtMDA)showed a markedly elevated ability to secrete S100A4 protein,which directly stimulated osteoclast formation via surface receptor *** S100A4 stimulated osteoclastogenesis in vitro and bone loss in *** medium from mtMDA cells in which S100A4 was knocked down had a reduced ability to stimulate ***,the S100A4 knockdown cells elicited less bone destruction in mice than the control knockdown *** addition,administration of an anti-S100A4 monoclonal antibody(mAb)that we developed attenuated the stimulation of osteoclastogenesis and bone loss by mtMDA in *** together,our results suggest that S100A4 released from breast cancer cells is an important player in the osteolysis caused by breast cancer bone metastasis.

Prediction of effluent concentration in a wastewater treatment plant using machine learning models

Of growing amount of food waste, the integrated food waste and waste water treatment was regarded as one of the efficient modeling method. However, the load of food waste to the conventional waste treatment process might lead to the high concentration of total nitrogen（T-N） impact on the effluent water quality. The objective of this study is to establish two machine learning models-artificial neural networks（ANNs） and support vector machines（SVMs）, in order to predict 1-day interval T-N concentration of effluent from a wastewater treatment plant in Ulsan, Korea. Daily water quality data and meteorological data were used and the performance of both models was evaluated in terms of the coefficient of determination（R^2）, Nash-Sutcliff efficiency（NSE）, relative efficiency criteria（d rel）. Additionally, Latin-Hypercube one-factor-at-a-time（LH-OAT） and a pattern search algorithm were applied to sensitivity analysis and model parameter optimization, respectively. Results showed that both models could be effectively applied to the 1-day interval prediction of T-N concentration of effluent. SVM model showed a higher prediction accuracy in the training stage and similar result in the validation ***, the sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the ANN model was a superior model for 1-day interval T-N concentration prediction in terms of the cause-and-effect relationship between T-N concentration and modeling input values to integrated food waste and waste water treatment. This study suggested the efficient and robust nonlinear time-series modeling method for an early prediction of the water quality of integrated food waste and waste water treatment process.

The incidence of gastric cancer remains high in *** gastrointestinal(GI) endoscopy,i.e.,esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD),has a higher diagnostic specificity and sensitivity than the upper GI ***,EGD has the ability to biopsy,through taking a tissue of the pathologic *** training of EGD procedural skills require a few important things to be learned and remembered,including the posture of an examinee(e.g.,left lateral decubitus and supine) and examiner(e.g.,one-man standing method vs one-man sitting method),basic skills(e.g.,tip deflection,push forward and pull back,and air suction and infusion),advanced skills(e.g.,paradoxical movement,J-turn,and U-turn),and intubation techniques along the upper GI tract(e.g.,oral cavity,pharynx,larynx including vocal cord,upper and middle and lower esophagus,gastroesophageal junction,gastric fundus,body,and antrum,duodenal bulb,and descending part of duodenum).In the current review,despite several limitations,we explained the intubation method of EGD for *** hope this will be helpful to beginners who wish to learn the procedure.

Evaluation of the relationship between two different methods for enumeration fecal indicator bacteria: Colony-forming unit and most probable number

Most probable number （MPN） and colony-forming unit （CFU） estimates of fecal indicator bacteria （FIB） concentration are common measures of water quality in aquatic environments. Thus, FIB intensively monitored in Yeongsan Watershed in an attempt to compare two different methods and to develop a statistical model to convert from CFU to MPN estimates or vice versa. As a result, the significant difference was found in the MPN and CFU estimates. The enumerated Escherichia coli concentrations in MPN are greater than those in CFU, except for the measurement in winter. Especially in fall, E. coli concentrations in MPN are one order of magnitude greater than that in CFU. Contrarily, enterococci bacteria in MPN are lower than those in CFU. However, in general, a strongly positive relationship are found between MPN and CFU estimates. Therefore, the statistical models were developed, and showed the reasonable converting FIB concentrations from CFU estimates to MPN estimates. We expect this study will provide preliminary information towards future research on whether different analysis methods may result in different water quality standard violation frequencies for the same water sample.

Two- and Three-Dimensional Simulations of Beetle Hind Wing Flapping during Free Forward Flight

Aerodynamic characteristic of the beetle, Trypoxylus dichotornus, which has a pair of elytra （forewings） and hind wings, is numerically investigated. Based on the experimental results of wing kinematics, two-dimensional （2D） and three-dimensional （3D） computational fluid dynamic simulations were carried out to reveal aerodynamic performance of the hind wing. The roles of the spiral Leading Edge Vortex （LEV） and the spanwise flow were clarified by comparing 2D and 3D simulations. Mainly due to pitching down of chord line during downstroke in highly inclined stroke plane, relatively high averaged thrust was produced in the free forward flight of the beetle. The effects of the local corrugation and the camber variation were also investigated for the beetle＇s hind wings. Our results show that the camber variation plays a significant role in improving both lift and thrust in the flapping. On the other hand, the local corrugation pattern has no significant effect on the aerodynamic force due to large angle of attack during flapping.

Liver function alterations after laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy for gastric cancer and its clinical significance

AIM: To evaluate the factors associated with liver function alterations after laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (LAG) for gastric cancer. METHODS: We collected the data of gastrectomy patients with gastric cancer and divided them into 2 groups: open gastrectomy (OG) and LAG. We also collected the data of patients with colon cancer to evaluate the effect of liver manipulations during surgery on liver function alterations. Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), total bilirubin, and alkaline phosphatase were measured on the preoperative day and postoperative day 1 (POD1), POD3, POD5, and POD7. RESULTS: No changes in liver function were observed after the operation in patients with colon cancer (n = 121). However, in gastric cancer patients (n = 215), AST and ALT levels increased until POD5 compared to those in colon cancer patients and these findings were observed both in the LAG and OG without a significant difference except at POD1. The mean hepatic enzyme levels at POD1 in the LAG group were significantly higher than those in the OG group (P = 0.047 for AST and P = 0.039 for ALT). The factors associated with elevated ALT on POD1 in patients with gastric cancer were body mass index (P < 0.001), operation time (P < 0.001), intraoperative hepatic injury (P = 0.048), and ligation of an aberrant left hepatic artery (P = 0.052) but not type of operation (OG vs LAG, P = 0.094). CONCLUSION: We conclude that the liver function alteration after LAG may have been caused by direct liver manipulation or aberrant hepatic artery ligation rather than the CO2 pneumoperitoneum.

Kohn–Sham time-dependent density functional theory with Tamm–Dancoff approximation on massively parallel GPUs

We report a high-performance multi graphics processing unit(GPU)implementation of the Kohn–Sham time-dependent density functional theory(TDDFT)within the Tamm–Dancoff *** algorithm on massively parallel computing systems using multiple parallel models in tandem scales optimally with material size,considerably reducing the computational wall time.A benchmark TDDFT study was performed on a green fluorescent protein complex composed of 4353 atoms with 40,518 atomic orbitals represented by Gaussian-type functions,demonstrating the effect of distant protein residues on the *** the largest molecule attempted to date to the best of our knowledge,the proposed strategy demonstrated reasonably high efficiencies up to 256 GPUs on a custom-built state-of-the-art GPU computing system with Nvidia A100 *** believe that our GPU-oriented algorithms,which empower first-principles simulation for very large-scale applications,may render deeper understanding of the molecular basis of material behaviors,eventually revealing new possibilities for breakthrough designs on new material systems.

Electrodeposited copper oxides with a suppressed interfacial amorphous phase using mixed-crystalline ITO and their enhanced photoelectrochemical performances

The effectiveness of photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting is significantly restricted by insufficient light harvesting,rapid charge recombination,and slow water reduction *** the presence of amorphous phases in the interfaces hinders the overcome of these inherent limitations,a photoelectrode must be built ***,we artificially controlled the crystallographic orientation of indium tin oxide(ITO)to determine the orientation with the smallest lattice mismatch at the Cu_(2)O interface,thus significantly reducing the amorphous phase in the early stage of electrodeposition ***[222]/[400]mixed orientation ITO primarily exposed the{400}surface planes and accelerated charge transfer by forming an optimal interface with preferentially grown(111)oriented Cu_(2)O and minimized amorphous *** addition,the ITO surface energy was calculated using density functional theory to theoretically verify which plane is more active for growing the photoactivation *** rationally designed ITO/Cu_(2)O/Al-dope Zn O/TiO_(2)/Rh-P device,with each layer serving a specific purpose,achieved a photocurrent density of 8.23 mA cm^(-2)at 0 VRHEunder AM 1.5 G illumination,providing a standard method for effective solar-to-hydrogen conversion photocathodes.
