Current therapeutic approaches for volumetric muscle loss(VML)face challenges due to limited graft availability and insufficient *** overcome these limitations,tissue-engineered scaffolds have emerged as a promising *** this study,we developed aligned ternary nanofibrous matrices comprised of poly(lactide-co-ε-caprolactone)integrated with collagen and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene nanoparticles(NPs)(PCM matrices),and explored their myogenic potential for skeletal muscle tissue *** PCM matrices demonstrated favorable physicochemical properties,including structural uniformity,alignment,microporosity,and *** vitro assays revealed that the PCM matrices promoted cellular behaviors and myogenic differentiation of C2C12 ***,in vivo experiments demonstrated enhanced muscle remodeling and recovery in mice treated with PCM matrices following VML *** insights from next-generation sequencing revealed that MXene NPs facilitated protein and ion availability within PCM matrices,leading to elevated intracellular Ca^(2+)levels in myoblasts through the activation of inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS)and serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1(SGK1),ultimately promoting myogenic differentiation via the m TOR-AKT ***,upregulated i NOS and increased NO–contributed to myoblast proliferation and fiber fusion,thereby facilitating overall myoblast *** findings underscore the potential of MXene NPs loaded within highly aligned matrices as therapeutic agents to promote skeletal muscle tissue recovery.

Prediction of Melt Pool Dimension and Residual Stress Evolution with Thermodynamically-Consistent Phase Field and Consolidation Models during Re-Melting Process of SLM

Re-melting process has been utilized to mitigate the residual stress level in the selective laser melting(SLM)process in recent ***,the complex consolidation mechanism of powder and the different material behavior after the first laser melting hinder the direct implementation of the re-melting *** this work,the effects of re-melting on the temperature and residual stress evolution in the SLM process are investigated using a thermo-mechanically coupled finite element *** degree of consolidation is incorporated in the energy balance equation based on the thermodynamically-consistent phase-field *** drastic change of material properties due to the variation of temperature and material state is also *** the proposed simulation framework,the single-track scanning is simulated first to predict the melt pool dimension and validate the proposed model with the existing experimental *** obtained thermal histories reveal that the highest cooling rate is observed at the end of the local solidification time which acts as an important indicator for the alleviation of temperature ***,the scanning of a whole single layer that consists of multiple tracks is simulated to observe the stress evolution with several re-melting *** the full melting of powder material in the first scanning process,the increase of residual stress level is observed with one remelting ***,the predicted stress level with the re-melting process shows the variation trend attributable to the accumulated heat in the *** numerical issues and the detailed implementation process are also introduced in this paper.

MOF‑Derived CoSe2@N‑Doped Carbon Matrix Confined in Hollow Mesoporous Carbon Nanospheres as High‑Performance Anodes for Potassium‑Ion Batteries

In this work,a novel vacuum-assisted strategy is proposed to homogenously form Metal-organic frameworks within hollow mesoporous carbon nanospheres(HMCSs)via a solid-state *** method is applied to synthesize an ultrafine CoSe2 nanocrystal@N-doped carbon matrix confined within HMCSs(denoted as CoSe2@NC/HMCS)for use as advanced anodes in highperformance potassium-ion batteries(KIBs).The approach involves a solvent-free thermal treatment to form a Co-based zeolitic imidazolate framework(ZIF-67)within the HMCS templates under vacuum conditions and the subsequent *** treatment under vacuum facilitates the infiltration of the cobalt precursor and organic linker into the HMCS and simultaneously transforms them into stable ZIF-67 particles without any *** the subsequent selenization process,the“dual confinement system”,composed of both the N-doped carbon matrix derived from the organic linker and the small-sized pores of HMCS,can effectively suppress the overgrowth of CoSe2 ***,the resulting uniquely structured composite exhibits a stable cycling performance(442 mAh g^−1 at 0.1 A g^−1 after 120 cycles)and excellent rate capability(263 mAh g^−1 at 2.0 A g^−1)as the anode material for KIBs.

Atypical onset of bicalutamide-induced liver injury

Anti-androgen therapy is the leading treatment for advanced prostate cancer and is commonly used for neoadjuvant or adjuvant treatment. Bicalutamide is a non-steroidal anti-androgen, used during the initiation of androgen deprivation therapy along with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonist to reduce the symptoms of tumor-related flares in patients with advanced prostate cancer. As side effects, bicalutamide can cause fatigue, gynecomastia, and decreased libido through competitive androgen receptor blockade. Additionally, although not as common, drug-induced liver injury has also been reported. Herein, we report a case of hepatotoxicity secondary to bicalutamide use. Typically, bicalutamideinduced hepatotoxicity develops after a few days; however, in this case, hepatic injury occurred 5 mo after treatment initiation. Based on this rare case of delayed liver injury, we recommend careful monitoring of liver function throughout bicalutamide treatment for prostate cancer.

Risk factors for metachronous gastric carcinoma development after endoscopic resection of gastric dysplasia: Retrospective, single-center study

To determine the gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) occurrence rate and related factors, we evaluated the follow-up results of patients confirmed to have gastric dysplasia after endoscopic resection (ER). METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the medical records, endoscopic examination records, endoscopic procedure records, and histological records of 667 cases from 641 patients who were followed-up for at least 12 mo, from among 1273 patients who were conformed to have gastric dysplasia after Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) or endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of gastric mucosal lesions between January 2007 and August 2013 at the Chungnam National University Hospital. RESULTSThe mean follow-up period was 33.8 mo, and the median follow-up period was 29 mo (range: 12-87). During the follow-up period, the occurrence of metachronous GAC was 4.0% (27/667). The mean and median interval periods between the occurrence of metachronous GAC and endoscopic treatment of gastric dysplasia were 36.3 and 34 mo, respectively (range: 16-71). The factors related to metachronous GAC occurrence after ER for gastric dysplasia were male sex (5.3% vs 1.0%), open-type atrophic gastritis (9.5% vs 3.4%), intestinal metaplasia (6.8% vs 2.4%), and high-grade dysplasia (HGD; 8.4% vs 3.2%). Among them, male sex [OR: 5.05 (1.18-21.68), P = 0.029], intestinal metaplasia [OR: 2.78 (1.24-6.23), P = 0.013], and HGD [OR: 2.70 (1.16-6.26), P = 0.021] were independent related factors in multivariate analysis. Furthermore, 24 of 27 GAC cases (88.9%) occurred at sites other than the previous resection sites, and 3 (11.1%) occurred at the same site as the previous resection site. CONCLUSIONMale sex, intestinal metaplasia, and HGD were significantly related to the occurrence of metachronous GAC after ER of gastric dysplasia, and most GACs occurred at sites other than the previous resection sites.

Carbon-Coated Three-Dimensional MXene/Iron Selenide Ball with Core–Shell Structure for High-Performance Potassium-Ion Batteries

Two-dimensional(2D)MXenes are promising as electrode materials for energy storage,owing to their high electronic conductivity and low diffusion ***,similar to most 2D materials,MXene nanosheets easily restack during the electrode preparation,which degrades the electrochemical performance of MXene-based materials.A novel synthetic strategy is proposed for converting MXene into restacking-inhibited three-dimensional(3D)balls coated with iron selenides and *** strategy involves the preparation of Fe_(2)O_(3)@carbon/MXene microspheres via a facile ultrasonic spray pyrolysis and subsequent selenization *** 3D structuring effectively prevents interlayer restacking,increases the surface area,and accelerates ion transport,while maintaining the attractive properties of ***,combining iron selenides and carbon with 3D MXene balls offers many more sites for ion storage and enhances the structural robustness of the composite *** resultant 3D structured microspheres exhibit a high reversible capacity of 410 mAh g^(−1) after 200 cycles at 0.1 A g^(−1) in potassium-ion batteries,corresponding to the capacity retention of 97% as calculated based on 100 *** at a high current density of 5.0 A g^(−1),the composite exhibits a discharge capacity of 169 mAh g^(−1).

Magnesium-ion batteries(MIBs)have promising applications because of their high theoretical capacity and the natural abundance of magnesium ***,the kinetic performance and cyclic stability of cathode materials are limited by the strong interactions between Mg ions and the crystal ***,we demonstrate the unique Mg^(2+)-ion storage mechanism of a hierarchical accordion-like vanadium oxide/carbon heterointerface(V_(2)O_(3)@C),where the V_(2)O_(3) crystalline structure is reconstructed into a MgV_(3)O_(7)·H_(2)O phase through an anodic hydration reaction upon first cycle,for the improved kinetic and cyclic *** verified by in situ/ex situ spectroscopic and electrochemical analyses,the fast charge transfer kinetics of the V_(2)O_(3)@C cathode were due to the crystal-reconstruction and chemically coupled *** V_(2)O_(3)@C demonstrated an ultrahigh rate capacity of 130.4 mAh g^(-1)at 50000 mA g^(-1)and 1000 cycles,achieving a Coulombic efficiency of 99.6%.The high capacity of 381.0 mA h g^(-1)can be attributed to the reversible Mg^(2+)-ion intercalation mechanism observed in the MgV_(3)O_(7)·H_(2)O phase using a 0.3 M Mg(TFSI)2/ACN(H_(2)O)***,within the voltage range of 2.25 V versus Mg/Mg^(2+),the V_(2)O_(3)@C exhibited a capacity of 245.1 mAh g^(-1)when evaluated with magnesium metal in a 0.3 M Mg(TFSI)^(2+)0.25 M MgCl_(2)/DME *** research findings have important implications for understanding the relationship between the Mg-ion storage mechanism and reconstructed crystal phase of vanadium oxides as well as the heterointerface reconstruction for the rational design of MIB cathode materials.

BACKGROUND In trauma patients,bleeding is an immediate major *** the same time,there are few cases of acute vascular occlusion after blunt trauma,and it is unclear what assessment and diagnosis should be considered for these ***,we describe a patient diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome after a hypercoagulable workup for acute renal and splenic vascular occlusion due to blunt *** SUMMARY A 20-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department with abdominal pain after hitting a tree while riding a sled 10 h *** had no medical *** investigations revealed occlusion of the left renal artery with global infarction of the left kidney and occlusion of branches of the splenic artery with infarction of the central portion of the *** revascularization of the left renal artery occlusion through percutaneous transluminal angioplasty failed due to difficulty in passing the wire through the total *** the presence of acute multivascular occlusions in a young man with low cardiovascular risk,additional laboratory tests were performed to evaluate *** results suggested a high possibility of antiphospholipid *** with a subcutaneous injection of enoxaparin was started and changed to oral warfarin after two *** diagnosis was confirmed,and he continued to visit the rheumatology outpatient clinic while taking *** A hypercoagulable workup can be considered in trauma patients with acute multivascular occlusion,especially in young patients with low cardiovascular risk.

Impact of UV-A Radiation on Erythemal UV and UV-index Estimation over Korea

Because total UV （TUV） in the UV-A region is 100 times higher than in the UV-B region, UV-A is a considerable compo- nent when calculating erythemal UV （EUV） and UV-index. The ratio of EUV to TUV in the UV-A value [EUV（A）/TUV（A）] is investigated to convert the EUV（A） from TUV（A） for broadband observation. The representative value of EUV（A）/TUV（A）, from the simulation study, is 6.9 × 10^- 4 changing from 6.1 ×10^-4 to 7.0 × 10^ -4 as aerosol optical depth, total ozone and solar zenith angle change. By adopting the observational data of EUV（B） and TUV（A） from UV-biometer measurements at Yonsei University [（37.57°N, 126.95°E）, 84 m above sea level], the EUV irradiance increases to 15% of EUV（B） due to the consideration of EUV（A） from the data of TUV（A） observation. Compared to the total EUV observed from the Brewer spec- trophotometer at the same site, the EUV（B） from the UV-biometer observes only 95% of total EUV, and its underestimation is caused by neglecting the effect of UV-A. However, the sum of EUV（B） and EUV（A） [EUV（A＋B）] from two UV-biometers is 10% larger than the EUV from the Brewer spectrophotometer because of the spectral overlap effect in the range 320-340 nm. The correction factor for the overlap effect adjusts 8% of total EUV.

Amelioration effects of traditional Chinese medicine on alcohol-induced fatty liver

AIM： To examine the effects of traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） on alcohol-induced fatty liver in rats. TCM consists of Astragalus membranaceus, Morus alba, Crataegus pinnatifida, Alisma orientale, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Pueraria lobata. METHODS： The rats were separated randomly into five groups. One （the CD group） was fed a control diet for 10 wk, another （the ED group） fed an ethanol-containing isocaloric liquid diet for 10 wk, and the last three （the TCM group） were fed an ethanol-containing isocaloric liquid diet for 10 wk and dosed orally with TCM （222 mg/kg.d, TCM222; 667 mg/kg·d, TCM667; and 2 000 mg/kg.d, TCM2000, respectively） weekly during the last 4 wk. RESULTS： ED group developed fatty liver according to lipid profile and liver histological findings. Compared with the control group, liver/body weight, serum triglyceride （TG） and total cholesterol （TC）, liver TG and TC, serum alanine aminotransferase （ALT） and aspartic aminotransferase （AST） significantly increased in the ED group. Whereas, in the rats administered with TCM, liver/body weight, serum TG and TC, liver TG and TC, serum ALT and AST were significantly decreased, and the degree of hepatic lipid droplets was markedly improved compared with those in the ED group. CONCLUSION： TCM treatment causes significant reduction in alcohol-induced lipid hepatic accumulation, reversing fatty liver and liver damage, and can be used as a remedy for alcoholic fatty liver.
