Stimbiotic supplementation modulated intestinal inflammatory response and improved broilers performance in an experimentally-induced necrotic enteritis infection model

Background:Two experiments were conducted to establish an optimal NE challenge model and evaluate the efficacy of stimbiotic(STB)supplementation in necrotic enteritis(NE)challenged *** Exp.1,a total of 120 Arbor Acres(AA)broilers(45.0±0.21 g)were randomly assigned to 6 treatments in a 3×2 factorial *** treatments included non-challenge(0),×10 the recommended dose(×10)or×20 the recommended dose(×20)by the *** perfringens(CP)treatments were non-challenge(No)or 3 mL of 2.2×10^(7)CFU CP challenge(Yes).In Exp.2,a total of 72 AA broilers(40.17±0.27 g)were randomly assigned to 6 treatments in a 3×2 factorial *** treatments included non-additive(CON),100 mg/kg STB(STB)and 100 mg/kg STB on top of a typical commercial blend including an essential oil,probiotics,and enzyme(CB).Challenge treatments included non-NE challenge(No)and NE challenge(Yes)as established in ***:In Exp.1,CP and vaccine challenge decreased(P<0.05)body weight(BW),body weight gain(BWG)and feed intake(FI),and increased(P<0.05)the number of broilers with diarrhea and intestinal *** oral administration of×20 recommended dose of vaccines coupled with 3 mL of 2.2×10^(7)CFU CP resulted in(P<0.01)a significantly increased incidence of wet litter and intestinal ***,this treatment was chosen as the challenge model for the successful inducement of NE in *** Exp.2,the NE challenge negatively affected(P<0.01)growth performance,ileal morphology,immunoglobulin contents in blood,caecal microbiota in the caecum,footpad dermatitis,intestinal lesion scores,tumour necrosis factor(TNF-α)and endotoxin in the serum compared with the non-NE challenged *** supplementation of STB and CB in diets enhanced(P<0.05)growth performance,intestinal microbiota,and blood profiles by stimulating ileal morphology(VH and VH:CD)and propionate production in the cecum,and there were no differences in measured variables between STB and CB supplemented

Clinical outcomes of endoscopic papillectomy of ampullary adenoma: A multi-center study

BACKGROUND Ampullary adenoma is a rare premalignant lesion,but its incidence is *** papillectomy has become the first treatment of choice for ampullary adenomas due to its safety and effectiveness,thereby replacing surgical ***,recurrence rates and adverse events after endoscopic papillectomy were reported in up to 30%of *** To review the long-term outcomes of endoscopic papillectomy and investigate the factors that affect these *** We retrospectively analyzed the data of patients who underwent endoscopic papillectomy for ampullary adenoma at five tertiary hospitals between 2013 and *** evaluated clinical outcomes and their risk *** definitions of outcomes were as follow:(1)curative resection:complete endoscopic resection without recurrence;(2)endoscopic success:treatment of ampullary adenoma with endoscopy without surgical intervention;(3)early recurrence:reconfirmed adenoma at the first endoscopic surveillance;and(4)late recurrence:reconfirmed adenoma after the first endoscopic *** A total of 106 patients were included for *** the included patients,81(76.4%)underwent curative resection,99(93.4%)had endoscopic success,showing that most patients with noncurative resection were successfully managed with *** patients(15.1%)had piecemeal resection,22 patients(20.8%)had shown positive/uncertain resection margin,11 patients(16.1%)had an early recurrence,13 patients(10.4%)had a late recurrence,and 6 patients(5.7%)had a *** multivariate analysis,a positive/uncertain margin[Odds ratio(OR)=4.023,P=0.048]and piecemeal resection(OR=6.610,P=0.005)were significant risk factors for early and late recurrence,*** resection was also a significant risk factor for non-curative resection(OR=5.424,P=0.007).Twenty-six patients experienced adverse events(24.5%).CONCLUSION Endoscopic papillectomy is a safe and effective treatment for ampullary ***

Pharmacokinetic comparison with different assays for simultaneous determination of cis-,trans-cefprozil diastereomers in human plasma

The purpose of this study was to compare pharmacokinetic(PK)parameters obtained using two newly developed assays,HPLC-UV and UPLC-ESI-MS/*** of assay and results obtained therefrom are very important in PK studies and can have a major impact on the PK-based clinical dose and usage *** this study,we developed two new methods that are most commonly used in biosample analysis and focused on PK parameters obtained from *** HPLC-UV equipped with a Luna-C8 column using UV detector,cefprozil diastereomers were separated using water containing 2%(V/V)acetic acid and acetonitrile as a mobile *** UPLC-ESI-MS/MS equipped with a HALO-C18 column,cefprozil diastereomers were separated using 0.5%(V/V)aqueous formic acid containing 5 mM ammoniumformate buffer and methanol as a mobile *** showed high resolution,sensitivity,and selectivity without interference by plasma *** intra-and inter-day precisions(CV,%)were within 8.88%for HPLC-UV and UPLC-ESI-MS/*** of both methods was 95.67%-107.50%.These two analytical methods satisfied the criteria of international guidance and could be successfully applied to PK *** of PK parameters between two assays confirmed that there is a difference in the predicted minimum plasma concentrations at steady state,which may affect clinical dose and usage ***,we confirmed possible correlation between PK parameters and various biochemical parameters after oral administration of 1000 mg cefprozil to humans.

Are age, anthropometry and components of metabolic syndrome-risk factors interrelated with lower urinary tract symptoms in patients with erectile dysfunction？ A prospective study

Aim： To evaluate the effects of metabolic profiles on lower urinary tract symptoms （LUTS） in men with erectile dysfunction （ED）. Methods： A total of 75 impotent men aged 25-75 years old （mean 58.1 years） were included in the study on a prospective basis. Patients were evaluated with a complete history, physical examination, anthropometry and metabolic profiles. LUTS were assessed using the International Prostate Symptom Score （IPSS）. Results： Overall, there was no correlation between the IPSS and continuous parameters. However, when continuous variables were categorized, some parameters were significantly associated with LUTS. Patients with triglyceride level of 150 mg/dL or higher had more severe symptoms than those with tiglyceride levels less than 150 mg/dL （19.4±2.4 vs. 14.3±1.1, P = 0.033）. When 40 mg/dL was chosen as the high-density lipoprotein （HDL）-cholesterol cut-off level, the IPSS was significantly different between the two groups divided by 40 mg/dL （19.4±2.6 for HDL-cholesterol 〈 40 mg/dL vs. 14.4±1.0 for HDL-cholesterol 2 40 mg/dL, P = 0.042）. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve （AUROCC） of triglyceride was 65.7% （95% confidence interval [CI], 52.6%-82.3%; P = 0.034） for severe LUTS. However, the AUROCC for ＇HDL-cholesterol＇ was not significant （area, 65.4%; 95% CI, 48.2%-82.7%; P = 0.062）. No other factors were determined to be significant in this regard. Conclusion： The results of the present study indicate that some metabolic profiles might influence LUTS in men with ED.

Variable step-size affine projection algorithm based on global speech absence probability for adaptive feedback cancellation

A novel approach is proposed for improving adaptive feedback cancellation using a variable step-size affine projection algorithm(VSS-APA) based on global speech absence probability(GSAP).The variable step-size of the proposed VSS-APA is adjusted according to the GSAP of the current *** weight vector of the adaptive filter is updated by the probability of the speech *** performance measure of acoustic feedback cancellation is evaluated using normalized *** results demonstrate that the proposed approach has better performance than the normalized least mean square(NLMS) and the constant step-size affine projection algorithms.

Inhibitory Mechanisms of Water Extract of Oplopanax elatus on Lipopolysaccharide-lnduced Inflammatory Responses in RAW 264.7 Murine Macrophage Cells

Objective:To study the anti-inflammatory action and cellular mechanism of Oplopanax ***:A hot water extract of OE(WOE)was prepared and a major constituent,syringin,was successfully *** content in WOE was found to be 214.0 p.g/g dried plant(w/w).Their anti-inflammatory activities were examined using RAW 264.7 macrophages and a mouse model of croton oil-induced ear ***:In lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-treated RAW 264.7 cells,a mouse macrophage cell line,WOE was found to significantly and strongly inhibit cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)-induced prostaglandin E2(PGE2)production[half maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)=135.2μg/mL]and inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)-induced NO production(IC50=242.9μg/mL).In the same condition,WOE was revealed to inhibit NO production by downregulating iNOS expression,mainly by interrupting mitogen activated protein kinases(MAPKs)/activator protein-1(AP-1)*** activation of all three major MAPKs,p38 MAPK,extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK),and c-Jun N-terminal kinase,was inhibited by WOE(50-300μg/mL).On the other hand,WOE reduced PGE2 production by inhibiting COX-2 enzyme activity,but did not affect COX-2 expression *** addition,WOE inhibited the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α.In croton oil-induced ear edema in mice,oral administration of WOE(50-300 mg/kg)dose-dependently inhibited edematic ***:Water extract of OE exhibited multiple anti-inflammatory action mechanisms and may have potential for treating inflammatory disorders.

Interdecadal Variability of East Asian Summer Monsoon Precipitation over 220 Years (1777-1997)

In this study, long-term （1777–1997） precipitation data for Seoul, Korea, wetness indices from eastern China, and modern observations are used to identify the interdecadal variability in East Asian summer monsoon precipitation over the last 220 years. In the East Asian monsoon region, two long-term timescales of dry–wet transitions for the interdecadal variability and quasi-40-and quasi-60-year timescales are dominant in the 220-year precipitation data of Seoul, as well as in the wetness indices over China. The wet and dry spells between Seoul （southern China） and northern China are out-of-phase （out-of-phase） at the quasi-60-year timescale, and in-phase （out-of-phase by approximately 90 ？ before 1900 and in-phase after 1900） at the quasi-40-year timescale. In particular, during the last century, the dominant long-term timescales over East Asia tend to decrease from the quasi-60-year to the quasi-40-year with increasing time. The dominant quasi-40-year and quasi-60-year timescales of the Seoul precipitation in Korea are strongly correlated with these timescales of the northern Pacific Ocean.

Intercomparison of Precipitation Simulated by Regional Climate Models over East Asia in 1997 and 1998

Regional climate simulations in Asia from May 1997 to August 1998 were performed using the Seoul National University regional climate model （SNURCM） and Iowa State University regional climate model （***5/LSM）, which were developed by coupling the NCAR/Land Surface Model （LSM） and the Mesoscale Model （MM5）. However, for physical processes of precipitation, the SNURCM used the Grell scheme for the convective parameterization scheme （CPS） and the simple ice scheme for the explicit moisture scheme （EMS）, while the ***5/LSM used the Betts-Miller scheme for CPS and the mixed phase scheme for EMS.The simulated precipitation patterns and amounts over East Asia for the extreme climatic summer in 1997 （relative drought conditions） and 1998 （relative flood conditions） were especially focused upon. The ***5/LSM simulated more precipitation than was observed in 1997 due to more moisture and cloud water in the lower levels, despite weak upward motion. In the SNURCM, strong upward motion resulted in more precipitation than that was observed in 1998, with more moisture and cloud water in the middle levels. In the ***5/LSM, weak upward motion, unchanged moisture in the lower troposphere, and the decrease in latent heat flux at the surface increased convective precipitation only by 3% for the 1998 summer event. In the SNURCM, strong upward motion, the increase in moisture in the lower troposphere, and the increase in latent heat flux at the surface increased convective precipitation by 48% for the summer of 1998. The main differences between both simulations were moisture availability and horizontal momentum transport in the lower troposphere, which were also strongly influenced by large-scale forcing.

Priapism secondary to penile metastasis of rectal cancer

Metastatic penile carcinoma is rare and usually originates from genitourinary tumors. The presenting symptoms or signs have been described as nonspecific except for priapism. Rectal adenocarcinoma is a very unusual source of metastatic penile carcinoma. We report a case of metastatic penile carcinoma that originated from the rectum. Symptomatic improvement occurred with palliative radiotherapy.
