Sphingosine-1-phosphate(S1P)is an important lipid mediator that regulates a diverse range of intracellular cell signaling pathways that are relevant to tissue engineering and regenerative ***,the precise function of S1P in dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs)and its osteogenic differentiation remains *** here investigated the function of S1P/S1P receptor(S1PR)-mediated cellular signaling in the osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs and clarified the fundamental signaling *** results showed that S1P-treated DPSCs exhibited a low rate of differentiation toward the osteogenic phenotype in association with a marked reduction in osteogenesis-related gene expression and AKT *** note,both S1PR1/S1PR3 and S1PR2 agonists significantly downregulated the expression of osteogenic genes and suppressed AKT activation,resulting in an attenuated osteogenic capacity of *** importantly,an AKT activator completely abrogated the S1P-mediated downregulation of osteoblastic markers and partially prevented S1P-mediated attenuation effects during ***,the pro-inflammatory TNF-αcytokine promoted the infiltration of macrophages toward DPSCs and induced S1P production in both DPSCs and *** findings indicate that the elevation of S1P under inflammatory conditions suppresses the osteogenic capacity of the DPSCs responsible for regenerative endodontics.

AIM: To compare characteristics and prognosis of gastric cancer based on ***: A retrospective study was conducted on clinical and molecular data from patients(n =1658) with confirmed cases of gastric cancer in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital(Seoul, South Korea) from 2003 to 2010 after exclusion of patients diagnosed with lymphoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, and metastatic cancer in the stomach. DNA was isolated from tumor and adjacent normal tissue,and a set of five markers was amplified by polymerase chain reaction to assess microsatellite instability(MSI). MSI was categorized as high, low, or stable if ≥ 2, 1, or 0 markers, respectively, had *** was performed on tissue sections to detect levels of expression of p53, human epidermal growth factor receptor(HER)-2, and epidermal growth factor receptor. Statistical analysis of clinical and molecular data was performed to assess prognosis based on the stratification of patients by age(≤ 45 and> 45 years).RESULTS: Among the 1658 gastric cancer patients, the number of patients with an age ≤ 45 years was 202(12.2%; 38.9 ± 0.4 years) and the number of patients> 45 years was 1456(87.8%; 64.1 ± 0.3 years).Analyses revealed that females were predominant inthe younger group(P < 0.001). Gastric cancers in the younger patients exhibited more aggressive features and were at a more advanced stage than those in older patients. Precancerous lesions, such as atrophic gastritis and intestinal metaplasia, were observed less frequently in the older than in the younger group(P < 0.001). Molecular characteristics, including overexpression of p53(P < 0.001), overexpression of HER-2(P = 0.006), and MSI(P = 0.006), were less frequent in gastric cancer of younger patients. The sloshing flows in a LNG cargo tank model （1/50 scale） of a ship are measured by an embedded pano- ramicPIV system. The measurement system consists of a Nd-Yag laser（120mJ, 15Hz）, two cameras（lk x lk） and a host computer. Four experimental cases were tested for the tank model, in which swaying motions are made by a 6 DOF-motion platform. The amplitudes of swaying are 9.76mm and 29.29mm, and the swaying frequencies are 0.633Hz and 0.828Hz. The measurement regions are the vertical plane 50ram away from the front wall of the tank where a pump tower is installed. It was verified that the flow patterns of the sloshing are similar to each other when the swaying amplitudes are similar.

High power light-emitting diodes （LEDs） lighting has drawn a great interest in the field of street light system in recent years. Key parameters for successful launching of LED street light in the commercial market are price and light efficiency, respectively, and they are greatly influenced by the materials and design factors used in high power LED package. This article presents a new design and materials processing technology to realize the solution of LED packaging with advantageous in price and performance. Cost effective materials and processing technology can be realized via thick film glass-ceramic insulating layer and silver conductor. Highly effective thermal design using direct heat dissipation to heat sink in LED package is demonstrated.

A promising strategy for the selective growth of ZnO nanorods on SiO2/Si substrates using a graphene buffer layer in a low temperature solution process is described. High densities of ZnO nanorods were grown over a large area and most ZnO nanorods were vertically well-aligned on graphene. Furthermore, selective growth of ZnO nanorods on graphene was realized by applying a simple mechanical treatment, since ZnO nanorods formed on graphene are mechanically stable on an atomic level. These results were confirmed by first principles calculations which showed that the ZnO-graphene binding has a low destabilization energy. In addition, it was found that ZnO nanorods grown on SiO2/Si with a graphene buffer layer have better optical properties than ZnO nanorods grown on bare SiO2/Si. The nanostructured ZnO-graphene materials have promising applications in future flexible electronic and optical devices.

SnSe is a promising thermoelectric material with a high figure of merit in single crystal form, which has stimulated continuous research on polycrystalline SnSe. In this study, we investigated a metallization techniques for polycrystalline SnSe to achieve highly efficient and practical SnSe thermoelectric modules. The Ag/Ni metallization layers were formed on pristine polycrystalline SnSe using various deposition technique: sputter coating Ni, powder Niand foil Ni by spark plasma sintering. Structural analysis demonstrated that the microstructure and con tact resistance could be different according to the metallization process, despite using the same metals. The Ag/Ni metallization layer using foil Ni acted as an effective diffusion barrier and minimized electrical contact resistance (2.3×10^-4Ωcm^2). A power loss in the thermoelectric module of only 5% was demonstrated using finite element simulation.

The evaluation of therapeutic efficacy is necessary to predict the outcome of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(CRC). In these patients, there is a critical need for predictive chemosensitivity assays and biomarkers to optimize efficacy and minimize toxicity. The introduction of targeted agents has improved the progression-free survival and overall survival of patients with metastatic disease. However, approximately 50% of patients do not show a positive response to chemotherapy and the selection of patients likely to respond to a specific regimen remains challenging. Cell culturebased chemosensitivity tests use autologous viable tumor cells to evaluate susceptibility to specific agents in vitro and predict their direct effects. Adenosine triphosphate-based assays and methyl thiazolyl-diphenyltetrazolium bromide-based assays are used widely as sensitivity tests because of their short assay period, technical simplicity, and the requirement of small amount of specimen. Among protein- and gene-based chemosensitivity assays, assessment of KRAS mutation status predicts the response to epidermal growth factor receptor-targeted therapy in CRC patients. The validation of predictive and prognostic markers enables the selection of therapeutic regimens with optimal efficacy and minimal toxicity for each patient, which has been termed personalized treatment. This review summarizes currently available predictive and prognostic chemosensitivity tests for metastatic CRC.

Epoxy-based nano-composites can be ideal electromagnetic interference(EMI)-shielding materials owing to their lightness,chemical inertness,and mechanical ***,poor conductivity and brittleness of the epoxy resin are challenges for fast-growing portable and flexible EMI-shielding applications,such as smart wristband,medical cloth,aerospace,and military *** this study,we explored hybrid nanofillers of single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNT)/reduced graphene oxide(rGO)as conductive inks and polyester fabrics(PFs)as a substrate for flexible EMI-shielding *** highest electrical conductivity and fracture toughness of the SWCNT/rGO/PF/epoxy composites were 30.2 S m^(−1)and 38.5 MPa m^(1/2),which are~270 and 65%enhancement over those of the composites without SWCNTs,*** mechanical durability was demonstrated by stable electrical conductivity retention during 1000 cycles of bending *** EMI-shielding effectiveness of~41 dB in the X-band frequency of 8.2-12.4 GHz with a thickness of 0.6 mm was obtained with an EM absorption-dominant behavior over a 0.7 absorption *** results are attributed to the hierarchical architecture of the macroscale PF skeleton and nanoscale SWCNT/rGO networks,leading to superior EMI-shielding *** believe that this approach provides highly flexible and robust EMI-shielding composites for next-generation wearable electronic devices.
