KoNA:Korean Nucleotide Archive as A New Data Repository for Nucleotide Sequence Data

During the last decade,the generation and accumulation of petabase-scale high-throughput sequencing data have resulted in great challenges,including access to human data,as well as transfer,storage,and sharing of enormous amounts of *** promote data-driven biological research,the Korean government announced that all biological data generated from government-funded research projects should be deposited at the Korea BioData Station(K-BDS),which consists of multiple databases for individual data ***,we introduce the Korean Nucleotide Archive(KoNA),a repository of nucleotide sequence *** of July 2022,the Korean Read Archive in KoNA has collected over 477 TB of raw next-generation sequencing data from national genome *** ensure data quality and prepare for international alignment,a standard operating procedure was adopted,which is similar to that of the International Nucleotide Sequence Database *** standard operating procedure includes quality control processes for submitted data and metadata using an automated pipeline,followed by manual *** ensure fast and stable data transfer,a high-speed transmission system called GBox is used in ***,the data uploaded to or downloaded from KoNA through GBox can be readily processed using a cloud computing service called *** seamless coupling of KoNA,GBox,and Bio-Express enhances the data experience,including submission,access,and analysis of raw nucleotide *** not only satisfies the unmet needs for a national sequence repository in Korea but also provides datasets to researchers globally and contributes to advances in *** KoNA is available at https://***/kona/.

Diffractive multifocal intraocular lens implantation in patients with monofocal intraocular lens in the contralateral eye

AIM:To evaluate clinical outcomes of unilateral implantation of a diffractive multifocal intraocular lens(IOL)in patients with contralateral monofocal ***:Twenty-two patients who already had implantation of a monofocal IOL in unilateral eye underwent implantation of a diffractive multifocal IOL in contralateral eye were *** 1,6,and 12 mo,uncorrected and distant corrected distant visual acuity(UCDVA and DCDVA),uncorrected and distant corrected intermediate-visual acuity(UCIVA and DCIVA),uncorrected and distant corrected near visual acuity(UCNVA and DCNVA),and contrast sensitivity were ***/glare symptoms,spectacle dependence,and patient satisfaction were also ***:The mean age was 67.86±7.25 y and the average interval between two IOL implantations was 645.82±878.44 *** 1 mo,binocular UCDVA was lower than 0.20 logMAR in 76%of patients(mean 0.12±0.13 logMAR),which increased to 90%by 6 and 12 *** binocular UCDVA was significantly better than the monocular results(P<0.05)at 1,6,and 12 ***,UCNVA was lower than 0.40 logMAR in 82%of patients,increasing to 90%by 6 and 12 *** UCNVA in the multifocal IOL implanted eye was statistically significantly better than that in the monofocal IOL implanted eye(P<0.05)at 1,6,and 12 *** 5%of patients at 1 and 6 mo,reported"severe glare or halo".Patient satisfaction rates were 95%and 91%at 6 and 12 mo,***:Unilateral implantation of multifocal IOL in patients with a contralateral,monofocal IOL implantation results in high patient satisfaction rate,with low severe glare or halo rate during *** can represent a good option for patients who have previously had a monofocal IOL implantation regardless of two year interval duration between two IOL implantations.

Geese have undergone significant changes in their distribution and population size due to human-induced *** improve our understanding of the two main geese populations in East Asia—Greater White-fronted(Anser albifrons;GWFG)and Bean Geese(Anser fabalis sensu lato;BEAG),which includes the Tundra ***(TDBG)and Taiga Bean Geese ***(TGBG),this study estimated their long-and short-term trends and the migration strategies based on their distribution during the migratory and wintering seasons,using nationwide census data collected over 24 years in South *** TRIM(TRends and Indices for Monitoring data)analysis supported a robust long-term population increase since 1999,recently stabilizing around 150,000 individuals in GWFG and 100,000 in TDBG,*** TGBG stabilized at around 7000 with no significant change of population over *** shorter-term trends within a season suggested that wintering populations of GWFG and TDBG in China might stop over in Korea in their autumn migration before their sea-crossing,evidenced by the large congregation near the Yellow Sea coast followed by a gradual *** contrast to autumn,there was no similar peak in spring migration,suggesting the potential for elliptical migration of some populations around the Yellow *** findings indicate a growing East Asian population and imply one of the migration strategies of the Greater White-fronted and Tundra Bean *** collaborating with recent tracking data,long-term monitoring efforts could offer more detailed insights into population trends and migration strategies,thereby contributing to the effective management and conservation of goose species in East Asia.

Geese have undergone significant changes in their distribution and population size due to human-induced impacts. To improve our understanding of the two main geese populations in East Asia—Greater White-fronted(Anser albifrons; GWFG) and Bean Geese(Anser fabalis sensu lato; BEAG), which includes the Tundra A. f. serrirostris(TDBG) and Taiga Bean Geese A. f. middendorffii(TGBG), this study estimated their long-and short-term trends and the migration strategies based on their distribution during the migratory and wintering seasons, using nationwide census data collected over 24 years in South Korea. The TRIM(TRends and Indices for Monitoring data) analysis supported a robust long-term population increase since 1999, recently stabilizing around 150,000 individuals in GWFG and 100,000 in TDBG, respectively. But TGBG stabilized at around 7000 with no significant change of population over time. The shorter-term trends within a season suggested that wintering populations of GWFG and TDBG in China might stop over in Korea in their autumn migration before their sea-crossing, evidenced by the large congregation near the Yellow Sea coast followed by a gradual decrease. In contrast to autumn, there was no similar peak in spring migration, suggesting the potential for elliptical migration of some populations around the Yellow Sea. Our findings indicate a growing East Asian population and imply one of the migration strategies of the Greater White-fronted and Tundra Bean Geese. By collaborating with recent tracking data, long-term monitoring efforts could offer more detailed insights into population trends and migration strategies, thereby contributing to the effective management and conservation of goose species in East Asia.
