Multifunctional,flexible,and robust thin films capable of operating in demanding harsh temperature environments are crucial for various cutting-edge *** study presents a multifunctional Janus film integrating highly-crystalline Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) MXene and mechanically-robust carbon nanotube(CNT)film through strong hydrogen *** hybrid film not only exhibits high electrical conductivity(4250 S cm^(-1)),but also demonstrates robust mechanical strength and durability in both extremely low and high temperature environments,showing exceptional resistance to thermal *** hybrid Janus film of 15μm thickness reveals remarkable multifunctionality,including efficient electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of 72 dB in X band frequency range,excellent infrared(IR)shielding capability with an average emissivity of 0.09(a minimal value of 0.02),superior thermal camouflage performance over a wide temperature range(−1 to 300℃)achieving a notable reduction in the radiated temperature by 243℃ against a background temperature of 300℃,and outstanding IR detection capability characterized by a 44%increase in resistance when exposed to 250 W IR *** multifunctional MXene/CNT Janus film offers a feasible solution for electromagnetic shielding and IR shielding/detection under challenging conditions.

Developing DNA methylation-based diagnostic biomarkers

An emerging paradigm shift for disease diagnosis is to rely on molecular characterization beyond traditional clinical and symptom-based examinations. Although genetic alterations and transcription signature were first introduced as potential biomarkers, clinical implementations of these markers are limited due to low reproducibility and accuracy. Instead, epigenetic changes are considered as an alternative approach to disease diagnosis. Complex epigenetic regulation is required for normal biological functions and it has been shown that distinctive epigenetic disruptions could contribute to disease pathogenesis. Disease-specific epigenetic changes, especially DNA methylation, have been observed,suggesting its potential as disease biomarkers for diagnosis. In addition to specificity, the feasibility of detecting disease-associated methylation marks in the biological specimens collcted noninvasively,such as blood samples, has driven the clinical studies to validate disease-specific DNA methylation changes as a diagnostic biomarker. Here, we highlight the advantages of DNA methylation signature for diagnosis in different diseases and discuss the statistical and technical challenges to be overcome before clinical implementation.

Micro-Locational Fine Dust Prediction Utilizing Machine Learning and Deep Learning Models

Given the increasing number of countries reporting degraded air quality,effective air quality monitoring has become a critical issue in today’s ***,the current air quality observatory systems are often prohibitively expensive,resulting in a lack of observatories in many regions within a ***,a significant problem arises where not every region receives the same level of air quality *** disparity occurs because some locations have to rely on information from observatories located far away from their regions,even if they may be the closest available *** address this challenge,a novel approach that leverages machine learning and deep learning techniques to forecast fine dust concentrations was ***,continuous location features in the form of latitude and longitude values were incorporated into our *** utilizing a comprehensive dataset comprising weather conditions,air quality measurements,and location properties,various machine learning models,including Random Forest Regression,XGBoost Regression,AdaBoost Regression,and a deep learning model known as Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)were *** experimental results demonstrated that the LSTM model outperforms the other models,achieving the best score with a root mean squared error of 23.48 in predicting fine dust(PM10)concentrations on an hourly ***,the fact that incorporating location properties,such as longitude and latitude values,enhances the overall quality of the regression models was ***,the implications and contributions of our research were *** implementing our approach,the cost associated with relying solely on existing observatories can be substantially *** reduction in costs can pave the way for economically efficient fine dust observation systems,ensuring more widespread and accurate air quality monitoring across different regions.

Bone undergoes a constant and continuous remodeling process that is tightly regulated by the coordinated and sequential actions of bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming *** studies have shown that histone demethylases are implicated in osteoblastogenesis;however,little is known about the role of histone demethylases in osteoclast ***,we identified KDM4B as an epigenetic regulator of osteoclast *** of KDM4B significantly blocked the formation of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive multinucleated *** with myeloid-specific conditional knockout of KDM4B showed an osteopetrotic phenotype due to osteoclast *** analysis revealed that KDM4B physically and functionally associates with CCAR1 and MED1 in a *** genome-wide chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)-sequencing,we revealed that the KDM4B–CCAR1–MED1 complex is localized to the promoters of several osteoclast-related genes upon receptor activator of NF-κB ligand *** demonstrated that the KDM4B–CCAR1–MED1 signaling axis induces changes in chromatin structure(euchromatinization)near the promoters of osteoclast-related genes through H3K9 demethylation,leading to NF-κB p65 recruitment via a direct interaction between KDM4B and ***,small molecule inhibition of KDM4B activity impeded bone loss in an ovariectomized mouse *** together,our findings establish KDM4B as a critical regulator of osteoclastogenesis,providing a potential therapeutic target for osteoporosis.
