With the impacts of rapid urbanization and climate change,the urban flood has increasingly become a major hazard risk faced by human being in recent *** catastrophic urban flood events appear every year in the world,especially in Asia and Pacific region due to its geographical composition,density population and un-even economic and social *** reduce the urban flood risk and enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities,especially coastal communities,the Members of ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee(TC)have made their great efforts including engineering and non-engineering measures based on their different national *** a key part of non-engineering measures,it is recognized that improving urban flood monitoring and forecasting is a measure with high benefit related to cost on urban flood risk *** recent years,TC Members enhanced their capacity building on urban flood monitoring,forecasting and simulation,inundation mapping,*** order to enhance the technical cooperation and exchange on this aspect,Typhoon Committee Working Group on Hydrology(WGH)conducted two projects on“Urban Flood Risk Management in Typhoon Committee Area(UFRM)”and“Operation System for Urban Flood Forecasting and Inundation Mapping(OSUFFIM)”in the past *** paper generally reviewed the situation and causes of urban flood in TC region;briefly summarized the progresses and shortages on urban flood monitoring and forecasting in TC Members;and initially discussed the areas to be enhanced in future for improvement of urban flood monitoring,forecasting and simulation,and inundation mapping with up-to-date development of weather radar and satellite monitoring,image-based monitoring,information technology(IT),Internet of Things(IoT),big data and artificial intelligence(AI).

Fucoidan is a traditional Chinese medicine suggested to possess anti-tumor *** this study the anti-metastatic effects of fucoidan were investigated in vitro in human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells(Huh-7 and SNU-761) under normoxic and hypoxic conditions and in vivo using a distant liver metastasis model involving injection of MH134 cells into spleen via the portal *** ability to protect hepatocytes against bile acid(BA)-induced apoptosis was investigated in primary *** was found to suppress the invasion of HCC cells through up-regulation of p42/44 MAPKdependent NDRG-1/CAP43 and partly,under normoxic conditions,through up-regulation of p42/44MAPK-dependent VMP-1 *** also significantly decreased liver metastasis in *** regards its hepatoprotective effect,fucoidan decreased BA-induced hepatocyte apoptosis as shown by the attenuation of caspase-8,and-7 cleavages and suppression of the mobilization of caspase-8 and Fas associated death domain(FADD) into the death-inducing signaling *** summary,fucoidandisplays inhibitory effects on proliferation of HCC cells and protective effects on *** results suggest fucoidan is a potent suppressor of tumor invasion with hepatoprotective effects.

Development of electrodes with high electrocatalytic activity and stability is essential for solving problems that still restrict the extensive application of vanadium redox flow batteries(VRFBs).Here,we designed a novel negative electrode with superior electrocatalytic activity by tailoring nitrogen functional groups,such as newly formed nitro and pyridinic-N transformed to pyridonic-N,from the prenitrogen-doped *** was experimentally confirmed that an electrode with pyridonic-N and nitro fuctional groups(tailored nitrogen-doped graphite felt,TNGF) has superior electrocatalytic acivity with enhanced electron and mass *** functional theory calulations demonstrated the pyridonic-N and nitro functional groups promoted the adsorption,charge transfer,and bond formation with the vanadium species,which is consistent with expermental *** addition,the V2+/V3+redox reaction mechanism on pyridonic-N and nitro functional groups was estabilised based on density functional theory(DFT) *** TNGF was applied to a VRFB,it enabled enhanced-electrolyte utilization and energy efficiencies(EE) of 57.9% and 64.6%,respectively,at a current density of 250 mA cm^(-2).These results are 18.6% and 8.9% higher than those of VRFB with electrode containing graphitic-N and pyridinicN ***,TNGF-based VRFB still operated with an EE of 59% at a high current density of300 mA cm^(-2).The TNGF-based VRFB exhibited stable cycling performance without noticeable decay of EE over 450 charge-discharge cycles at a current density of 250 mA cm^(-2).The results of this study suggest that introducing pyridonic-N and nitro groups on the electrode is effective for improving the electrochemical performance of VRFBs.

Temperature-Responsive Tensile Actuator Based on Multi-walled Carbon Nanotube Yarn

Many temperature indicators or sensors show color changes for materials used in food and medical ***, they are not helpful for a color-blind person or children who lack judgment. In this paper, we introduce simply fabricated and more useful low-temperature indicator(~30 °C) for devices that actuates using paraffin-infiltrated multiwalled carbon nanotube(MWCNT) coiled yarn. The density difference of MWCNT yarn provides large strain(~330 %)when heat causes the melted polymer to move. Furthermore, the MWCNT yarn decreases the melting point of *** properties allow control of the actuating temperature. In addition, mechanical strength was enhanced by MWCNT than previously reported temperature-responsive actuators based on shape memory polymers. This simply fabricated temperature indicator can be applied in latching devices for medical and biological fields.

BACKGROUND The in-stent restenosis(ISR)rates are reportedly inconsistent despite the increased use of second-generation drug eluting stent(DES).Although bioresorbable vascular scaffold(BVS)have substantial advantages with respect to vascular restoration,the rate of scaffold thrombosis is higher with BVS than with *** treatment strategies have not been established for DES-ISR to *** SUMMARY We report on a case of a 60-year-old man patient with acute coronary *** had a history of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction associated with very late scaffold thrombosis and treated with a *** angiography revealed significant stenosis,suggesting DES-ISR on the previous *** coherence tomography(OCT)identified a plaque rupture and a disrupted scaffold strut in the neointimal proliferation of *** treat the DES-ISR on the previous BVS,we opted for a drug-coated balloon(DCB)after a balloon angioplasty using a semi-compliant and non-compliant *** patient did not experience adverse cardiovascular events on using a DCB following the use of intensive dual antiplatelet therapy and statin for 24 *** This case highlights the importance of OCT as an imaging modality for characterizing the mechanism of target lesion *** use of a DCB following the administration of optimal pharmacologic therapy may be an optimal strategy for the treatment and prevention of recurrent BVS thrombosis and DES-ISR.

Calbindin D-28K （CB）, a Ca2＋-binding protein, maintains Ca2＋ homeostasis and protects neurons against various insults. Hyperthermia can exacerbate brain damage produced by ischemic insults. However, little is reported about the role of CB in the brain under hyperthermic condition during ischemic insults. We inves- tigated the effects of transient global cerebral ischemia on CB immunoreactivity as well as neuronal damage in the hippocampal formation under hyperthermic condition using immunohistochemistry for neuronal nuclei （NeuN） and CB, and Fluoro-Jade B histofluorescence staining in gerbils. Hyperthermia （39.5 ＋ 0.2~C） was induced for 30 minutes before and during transient ischemia. Hyperthermic ischemia resulted in neu- ronal damage/death in the pyramidal layer of CA1-3 area and in the polymorphic layer of the dentate gyrus at 1, 2, 5 days after ischemia. In addition, hyperthermic ischemia significantly decreaced CB immunoreac- tivity in damaged or dying neurons at 1, 2, 5 days after ischemia. In brief, hyperthermic condition produced more extensive and severer neuronal damage/death, and reduced CB immunoreactivity in the hippocampus following transient global cerebral ischemia. Present findings indicate that the degree of reduced CB immu- noreactivity might be related with various neuronal damage/death overtime and corresponding areas after ischemic insults.

Long-term performance of fiber-grid-reinforced asphalt overlay pavements: A case study of Korean national highways

The objective of this study was to verify the effect of fiber grid reinforcement on the longterm performance of asphalt overlay pavements by performing field investigation, laboratory test, and finite element analysis. Crack, rutting, roughness, and other miscellaneous distresses of fiber-grid-reinforced overlay sections and ordinary overlay sections were compared. Pavement conditions of fiber grid overlay sections before and after the overlay were also compared. Cores were obtained from the fiber-grid-reinforced and ordinary sections to measure bonding shear strength between the intermediate and overlay *** energy, displacement after yield, and shear stiffness of the cores were also obtained by analyzing the test results. Finite element analysis was performed by using the test results to validate the effect of the fiber grid reinforcement on the long-term performance of asphalt overlay pavements. Rutting and fatigue cracking were predicted for three cases: 1) fiber grid was not used;2) glass fiber grid was used;and 3) carbon fiber grid was used. The cracking ratio of fiber-grid-reinforced sections was much smaller than that of ordinary sections. The results of field investigation, laboratory test, and finite element analysis showed that the fiber grid reinforcement improved the long-term performance of asphalt overlay pavements.

Health behaviors of Korean adults with hepatitis B:Findings of the 2016 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

AIM To assess the frequencies of five health-related behaviors(smoking, alcohol consumption, body weight, sleep dura-tion, and physical activity) in Korean adults with chronic hepatitis *** Data were obtained from the 2016 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. In total, 5887 subjects(2568 males, 3319 females) over 19 years old were enrolled in this study. Interviews were performed to obtain information on demographic characteristics and medical conditions. A self-administered questionnaire and medical examination were used to assess the smoking history, alcohol use, physical activity, sleep duration, and body weight of the subjects. Chronic hepatitis B was diagnosed based on detection of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag). The subjects were categorized into HBs Ag positive and negative groups, and a complex sampling analysis was conducted to compare the health behaviors between these *** Among males, the current smoking rate in the HBs Ag positive group was higher than that in the negative group(45.5% vs 38.5%). In the positive group, the rates of monthly and high-risk alcohol use were 70.4% and 17.6% in males and 45.9% and 3.8% in females, respectively. The rate of alcohol use was similar between the two groups [P = 0.455(males) and P = 0.476(females)]. In the HBs Ag positive group, 32.3% and 49.9% of males and 26.5% and 49.6% of females were overweight and physically inactive, respectively. High-risk alcohol consumption and physical inactivity were significantly associated with self-perceived health *** Our data demonstrate that a large proportion of Korean adults with chronic hepatitis B have poor health behaviors. Further studies are needed to confirm our results.
