Status of the Fermilab muon (g-2) experiment

The New Muon （g-2） Collaboration at Fermilab has proposed to measure the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, αμ, a factor of four better than was done in E821 at the brookhaven AGS, which obtained αμ = [116592089（63）] × 10^-11 ±0.54 ppm. The last digit of a, is changed from the published value owing to a new value of the ratio of the muon-to-proton magnetic moment that has become available. At present there appears to be a difference between the Standard-Model value and the measured value, at the ≌ 3 standard deviation level when electron-positron annihilation data are used to determine the lowest-order hadronic piece of the Standard Model contribution. The improved experiment, along with further advances in the determination of the hadronic contribution, should clarify this difference. because of its ability to constrain the interpretation of discoveries made at the LHC, the improved measurement will be of significant value, whatever discoveries may come from the LHC.

Long-term treatment outcomes of clevudine in antiviral-naive patients with chronic hepatitis b

AIM:To evaluate the treatment outcomes of clevudine compared with entecavir in antiviral-naive patients with chronic hepatitis b(CHb).METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of CHb patients treated with clevudine 30 mg/d and compared their clinical outcomes with patients treated with entecavir 0.5 mg/*** biochemical response,as assessed by serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT) activity,virologic response,as assessed by serum hepatitis b virus DNA(HbV DNA) titer,serologic response,as assessed by hepatitis b e antigen(HbeAg) status,and virologic breakthrough with genotypic mutations were ***:Two-hundred and fifty-four patients [clevudine(n = 118) vs entecavir(n = 136)] were *** clevudine-treated patients,the cumulative rates of serum ALT normalization were 83.9% at week 48 and 91.5% at week 96(80.9% and 91.2% in the entecavir group,respectively),the mean titer changes in serum HbV DNA were-6.03 and-6.55 log 10 copies/mL(-6.35 and-6.86 log 10 copies/mL,respectively,in the entecavir group),and the cumulative non-detection rates of serum HbV DNA were 72.6% and 83.1%(74.4% and 83.8%,respectively,in the entecavir group).These results were similar to those of entecavir-treated *** cumulative rates of HbeAg seroconversion were 21.8% at week 48 and 25.0% at week 96 in patients treated with clevudine,which was similar to patients treated with entecavir(22.8% and 27.7%,respectively).The virologic breakthrough in the clevudine group occurred in 9(7.6%) patients at weeks 48 and 15(12.7%) patients at week 96,which primarily corresponded to genotypic mutations of rtM204I and/or *** was no virologic breakthrough in the entecavir ***:In antiviral-naive CHb patients,longterm treatment outcomes of clevudine were not inferior to those of entecavir,except for virologic breakthrough.

Tailoring Light–Matter Interactions in Overcoupled Resonator for biomolecule Recognition and Detection

Plasmonic nanoantennas provide unique opportunities for precise control of light–matter coupling in surface-enhanced infrared absorption(SEIRA)spectroscopy,but most of the resonant systems realized so far suffer from the obstacles of low sensitivity,narrow bandwidth,and asymmetric Fano resonance ***,we demonstrated an overcoupled resonator with a high plasmon-molecule coupling coefficient(μ)(OC-Hμresonator)by precisely controlling the radiation loss channel,the resonator-oscillator coupling channel,and the frequency detuning *** observed a strong dependence of the sensing performance on the coupling state,and demonstrated that OC-Hμresonator has excellent sensing properties of ultra-sensitive(7.25%nm^(−1)),ultra-broadband(3–10μm),and immune asymmetric Fano *** characteristics represent a breakthrough in SEIRA technology and lay the foundation for specific recognition of biomolecules,trace detection,and protein secondary structure analysis using a single array(array size is 100×100μm^(2)).In addition,with the assistance of machine learning,mixture classification,concentration prediction and spectral reconstruction were achieved with the highest accuracy of 100%.Finally,we demonstrated the potential of OC-Hμresonator for SARS-CoV-2 *** findings will promote the wider application of SEIRA technology,while providing new ideas for other enhanced spectroscopy technologies,quantum photonics and studying light–matter interactions.

Acute myopathy associated with liver cirrhosis

AIM： Many cirrhotic patients have muscular symptoms and rhabdomyolysis. However, myopathy associated with liver cirrhosis has not been established as a disease entity. We evaluated the clinical significance of acute myopathy associated with liver cirrhosis. METHODS： We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 5440 cirrhotic patients who had been admitted to Gyeongsang National University Hospital from August 1997 to January 2003. Among these, 99 developed acute myopathies, and they were analyzed with respect to clinical and laboratory parameters, and outcomes. RESULTS： The Child-Pugh classification at the time of myopathy onset was A in 3（3.1%） cases, b in 33（33.3%）, and C in 63 （63.6%）. Infection was identified as the most predisposing factor to myopathy. Fifty percent of 18 idiopathic cases who were tested for influenza antibody were positive. Forty-two of the 99 cases were complicated by acute renal failure, and 25 （59.5%） of these expired. Apart from 6 cases lost to follow-up, 64 of 93 recovered, giving a mortality rate of 31.2%. Mortality was higher in Child-Pugh class C than in b or A. CONCLUSION： Acute myopathy can develop as a serious complication in liver cirrhosis. Its frequency, severity and mortality depend on underlying liver function, and are higher in decompensated liver cirrhosis. Influenza should be considered as an etiologic factor in idiopathic cases. It is proposed that acute myopathy associated with liver cirrhosis be called ＇hepatic myopathy; and that careful monitoring for hepatic myopathy is necessary in the patients with advanced liver cirrhosis.

Occult hepatitis b virus infection is not associated with disease progression of chronic hepatitis C virus infection

AIM To clarify the prevalence of occult hepatitis b virus(HbV) infection(ObI) and the association between ObI and liver disease progression, defined as development of liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), worsening of Child-Pugh class, or mortality in cases of chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection. METHODS This prospective cohort study enrolled 174 patients with chronic HCV infection(chronic hepatitis, n = 83; cirrhosis, n = 47; HCC, n = 44), and evaluated disease progression during a mean follow-up of 38.7 mo. ObI was defined as HbV DNA positivity in 2 or moredifferent viral genomic regions by nested polymerase chain reaction using 4 sets of primers in the S, C, P and X open reading frame of the HbV genome. RESULTS The overall ObI prevalence in chronic HCV patients at enrollment was 18.4%, with 16.9%, 25.5% and 13.6% in the chronic hepatitis C, liver cirrhosis and HCC groups, respectively(P = 0.845). During follow-up, 52 patients showed disease progression, which was independently associated with aspartate aminotransferase > 40 IU/L, Child-Pugh score and sustained virologic response(SVR), but not with ObI positivity. In 136 patients who were not in the SVR state during the study period, ObI positivity was associated with neither disease progression, nor HCC development. CONCLUSION The prevalence of ObI in chronic HCV patients was 18.4%, and ObI was not associated with disease progression in South Koreans.
