AIM: To compare adherence, response, and remission with light treatment in African-American and Caucasian patients with Seasonal Affective ***: Seventy-eight study participants, agerange 18-64(51 African-Americans and 27 Caucasians)recruited from the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area, with diagnoses of recurrent mood disorder with seasonal pattern, and confirmed by a Structured Clinical Interview for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Ⅳ, were enrolled in an open label study of daily bright light treatment. The trial lasted6 wk with flexible dosing of light starting with 10000 lux bright light for 60 min daily in the morning. At the end of six weeks there were 65 completers. Three patients had Bipolar Ⅱ disorder and the remainder had Major depressive disorder. Outcome measures were remission(score ≤ 8) and response(50% reduction)in symptoms on the Structured Interview Guide for the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(SIGH-SAD)as well as symptomatic improvement on SIGH-SAD and Beck Depression Inventory-Ⅱ. Adherence was measured using participant daily log. Participant groups were compared using t-tests, chi square, linear and logistic regressions. RESULTS: The study did not find any significant group difference between African-Americans and their Caucasian counterparts in adherence with light treatment as well as in symptomatic *** symptomatic improvement and rate of treatment response were not different between the two groups,African-Americans, after adjustment for age, gender and adherence, achieved a significantly lower remission rate(African-Americans 46.3%; Caucasians 75%; P =0.02).COnCLUSIOn: This is the first study of light treatment in African-Americans, continuing our previous work reporting a similar frequency but a lower awareness of SAD and its treatment in African-Americans. Observed trends in diurnal temperature range over nigeria

The long-term trend of diurnal temperature range(DTR)over nigeria was examined using daily station-based datasets for the period 1971–*** results show that the regionally averaged DTR has decreased significantly(-0.34°C per decade)over the nigerian Sahel(north of 10°n),but there has been a slight increasing trend(0.01°C per decade)over the nigerian Guinea *** annual decreasing trend of DTR in the nigerian Sahel is mainly attributable to the significant increasing trend in daily minimum temperature(Tmin,0.51°C per decade),which far outstrips the rate of increase in the daily maximum(Tmax,0.17°C per decade).In contrast,the comparable trends in Tmin(0.19°C per decade)and Tmax(0.20°C per decade)may explain the non-significant trend of the DTR averaged over the Guinea Coast *** is observed that the DTR has decreased more in boreal summer(June–July–August)than in boreal winter(December–January–February)for the ***,it is found that the significant DTR declining trend over the nigerian Sahel is closely associated with an increasing trend of annual and summer precipitation in the region,but the increasing DTR trend in the nigerian Guinea Coast region can be attributed to the decreasing trend of cloud cover over the region.

Effect of low level, short wavelength ultraviolet radiation on sperm chromatin

Objective:To evaluate the effects of low level ultraviolet (UV) radiation on sperm chromatin ***:The target study was divided into three groups: (i) males with proven fertility (n=40 ) was taken as GroupⅠ (control);(ii) Oligoasthenozoospermic (OAT) cases as GroupⅡ (n=36);(iii) males with unexplained infertility (MUI) cases (n=42) as GroupⅢ. Specific techniques were used to study the impact of UV radiation (Pre and Post UV exposure) on the sperm nuclear DnA viz. Aniline blue staining was for detection of immature chromatin. Chromomycin A3 fluorescence staining was used to determine protamine-DnA dissociation by intense fluorescence of protamine deficient sperm cells and neutral comet assay was for evaluation of DnA fragmentation. Statistical analysis was carried out using Student'st-test (GraphPad Prism Version-6). Level of significance was considered atPnd MUI cases when exposed to UV-radiation showed higher percentage of immature sperm compared with normal fertile individuals. Higher percentage of Chromomycin A3 fluorescence in OAT and MUI cases revealed impaired DnA-protamine binding with subsequent DnA fragmentation after exposure to ***:In the present study, sperm chromatin is at higher risk of DnA fragmentation in the infertile (OAT and MUI) cases due to UV irradiation (254 nm). Hence, short duration UV exposure is detrimental to sperm DnA which could affect ensuing generations.

Chickpea yield is decreasing day by day due to drought stress,which could be an immense risk for future food security in developing *** practices could be the most excellent approach to diminish loss due to this abiotic *** current research work was designed to explore the tolerance reaction of chickpea genotypes against management practices,through morphological and biochemical parameters and evaluate yield performance across drought prone location of *** genotypes BD-6048,BD-6045,BD-6090,BD-6092 and eight management practices,e.g.,severe water stress(SWS),i.e.,without irrigation,10 cm thick mulching with rice straw(MRS),10 cm thick mulching with water hyacinth(MWH),organic amendment through compost(OAC)@3 t ha−1,organic amendment through cow dung@5 t ha−1(OACD),organic amendment through poultry manure@2 t ha−1(OAPM),inorganic amendment through proline application(IAPA)as foliar spray and 16 h hydro-priming(HP).The study revealed that the genotypes BD-6048 showed excellent performance because of the highest chlorophyll,carotenoids,phosphorus,potassium,proline and protein *** highest pod number plant−1 also increased seed yield in *** management practices,IAPA increased relative water content,carotenoids,leaf phosphorus and potassium compared to other management practices and severe water ***,BD-6084 was selected as best genotype because of a significant increase in chlorophyll a and b,carotenoids,and relative water content with *** top performing genotypes can be used for releasing variety and cultivated for sustainable production in drought prone area of Bangladesh.

The importance and the necessary of researches on renewable energy have become a hot topic in recent years due to climate change and global warming. In addition, the fossil fuel reserves is facing rapid depletion on the earth. Currently, most researches have concentrated on producing biogas for heating, lighting, drying, cooking but lack in researching on electricity production because the possibility of producing biogas at households are common at small scale. Studying on alternative energy sources to replace traditional fuel for electric power generation brings new chances and great opportunities for development. This study presents an assessment electric power generation via water hyacinths and agricultural waste. In this paper, the evaluation electric power is generated by operating internal combustion engines which use biogas fuel to replace traditional fuel （diesel, gasoline）. The results of the studies were demonstrated by experiments on the renewable energy production system at Hoa An Biotechnology Research and Experimental Center of Cantho University.
