Homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening effects on static and dynamic responses of quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers

In this paper, the inhomogeneous broadenings dot semiconductor optical effects of homogeneous and on the response of quantum- amplifier （QD-SOAs） are investigated. For the first time, the state space model is used to simulate static and dynamic characteristics of the QD-SOA. It is found that with decreasing the homo- geneous and inhomogeneous broadenings, the saturation power of the QD-SOA decreases and the optical gain and the ultrafast gain compression increase. Simulation results show that with decreasing the homogeneous broadening from 20 to 1 meV, the gain compression increases from 40% to 90%, the unsaturated optical gain becomes approximately tripled, and the saturation power becomes two times less. Also, simulations demonstrate that with decreasing the inhomogeneous broadening from 50 to 25 meV, the gain compression increases from less than 50% to more than 90%, the unsaturated optical gain becomes approximately 10-fold, and the saturation power becomes three times less. In addition, it is found that the homogeneous and inhomogeneous linewidths should be small for nonlinear applications. The homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadenings need to be large enough for linear applications.

Swept laser interferometry is an extremely powerful solution embedded in several recent technologies such as absolute distance measurement,light detection and ranging (LiDAR),optical frequency domain reflectometry,optical coherence tomography,microresonator characterization,and gas *** in the optical frequency sweeping of tunable lasers is a fatal drawback in gaining the expected outcome from these ***,we introduce an on-chip,millimeter-scale,7 m spiral resonator that is made of ultralow-loss Si3N4to act as a frequency ruler for correction of the tunable lasers sweeping *** sharp 2 MHz frequency lines of the 8.5×107high-quality factor resonator and the narrow-spaced 25.566 MHz frequency ticks of the 7 m spiral allow unprecedented precision for an on-chip solution to correct the laser sweeping *** measurements of the ruler’s frequency spacing,linewidth,and temperature and wavelength sensitivities of the frequency ticks are performed here to demonstrate the quality of the frequency *** addition,the spiral resonator is implemented in an frequency-modulated continuous-wave LiDAR experiment to demonstrate a potential application of the proposed on-chip frequency ruler.

High-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia is a challenging diagnosis and itdoes not exhibit mass lesions. It is suspected based on changes in the mainpancreatic duct in magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography. Sometimesonly an unclear duct shows in magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatographywith no focal strictures and upstream dilatation of the main pancreatic duct. Serialpancreatic juice cytology is valuable in diagnosis of those patients.

Objective: Erector spinae plane block is a novel regional anaesthetic intervention that is said to have an effective analgesic profile in the upper abdominal region. We compared its analgesic efficacy with thoracic epidural block for upper abdominal cancer surgeries. Methods: This prospective study included 60 patients, 18 to 65 years old with ASA class II who underwent gastrectomy and Whipple’s procedures under general anesthesia. Patients were assigned into two groups: Thoracic epidural group, with injection of 0.1 ml/kg of bupivacaine 0.25% in epidural catheter followed by 0.1 ml/kg/h of 0.125% bupivacaine infusion for 48 hrs., and Erector spinae group, with insertion of bilateral erector spinae catheters to inject 0.1 ml/kg of bupivacaine 0.25% followed by bilateral infusion of 0.1 ml/kg/h of bupivacaine 0.125% for 48 hrs. The primary endpoint was postoperative VAS scores at rest and movement. Secondary endpoint included postoperative total opioid consumption, 1st request for analgesia, hemodynamic changes and satisfaction scores. Results: Pain scores and needed rescue analgesia in both groups were comparable. However, 1st request for opioid was significantly longer in TEPI compared to ESI group. Hemodynamics were significantly lower in TEPI group with no differences in the incidence of postoperative complications except for hypotension. Patient satisfaction scores were arbitrarily higher in ESI group without significance. Conclusion: Erector spinae infusion is a highly promising regional technique with comparable effects to thoracic epidural blockade in reducing pain and opioid needs while causing minimal hemodynamic consequences.

Objective: Stroke is perceived as a serious illness although it is preventable, and lifestyle alterations can be made to reduce its risk. Improvement of stroke care should be achieved through awareness of public, especially through high-risk group. Henceforth, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing intervention on improving awareness of high-risk people about stroke prevention. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used to carry out this study, where a purposive sample of 80 adult patients at high risk for stroke were enrolled while they were attending the out-patient clinics of Zagazig University Hospitals for follow-up treatment;they were divided into two groups: case (40 patients) and control (40 patients). An interview questionnaire was used to assess patients’ knowledge regarding warning signs, risk factors, and immediate treatment;attitude;and their practice for prevention for stroke at pretest and posttest. Results: The study revealed the poor level of knowledge, bad level of preventive behavior, and negative attitude regarding stroke prevention at pre-intervention. However, after intervention, the high-risk people had fair level of knowledge with moderate practice for stroke prevention and positive attitude, with statistically significant difference between pre-post intervention and between the case and control groups. Conclusions: The study revealed that the nursing intervention seemed to change the knowledge, practice, and attitude of subjects regarding stroke prevention. This, in turn, implies that awareness of prevention of stroke and high-risk factor control could be important to reduce the burden of stroke in Egypt. Thus, further research on a larger scale is required to improve population knowledge and behavior for stroke prevention and control.

Investigating the Relevance of Arabic Text Classification Datasets Based on Supervised Learning

Training and testing different models in the field of text classification mainly depend on the pre-classified text document datasets. Recently, seven datasets have emerged for Arabic text classification, including Single-Label Arabic News Articles Dataset(SANAD), Khaleej, Arabiya, Akhbarona, KALIMAT, Waten2004, and Khaleej2004. This study investigates which of these datasets can provide significant training and fair evaluation for text classification(TC). In this investigation, well-known and accurate learning models are used, including naive Bayes(NB), random forest(RF), K-nearest neighbor(KNN), support vector machines(SVM), and logistic regression(LR) models. We present relevance and time measures of training the models with these datasets to enable Arabic language researchers to select the appropriate dataset to use based on a solid basis of comparison. The performances of the five learning models across the seven datasets are measured and compared with the performances of the same models trained on a well-known English language dataset. The analysis of the relevance and time scores shows that training the SVM model on Khaleej and Arabiya obtained the most significant results in the shortest amount of time,with the accuracy of 82%.

In this study,the effect of fiber angle on the tensile load-bearing performance and damage failure characteristics of glass composite laminates was investigated experimentally,analytically,and *** glass fabric in the laminate was perfectly aligned along the load direction(i.e.,at 0°),offset at angles of 30°and 45°,or mixed in different directions(i.e.,0°/30°or 0°/45°).The composite laminates were fabricated using vacuum-assisted resin *** influence of fiber orientation angle on the mechanical properties and stiffness degradation of the laminates was studied via cyclic tensile strength ***,simulations have been conducted using finite element analysis and analytical approaches to evaluate the influence of fiber orientation on the mechanical performance of glass *** testing revealed that,although the composite laminates laid along the 0°direction exhibited the highest stiffness and strength,their structural performance deteriorated *** also determined that increasing the fiber offset angle(i.e.,30°)could optimize the mechanical properties and damage failure characteristics of glass *** results of the numerical and analytical approaches demonstrated their ability to capture the mechanical behavior and damage failure modes of composite laminates with different fiber orientations,which may be used to prevent the catastrophic failures that occur in composite laminates.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) poses a significant healthcare challenge in Saudi Arabia, necessitating a structured approach to management and treatment. Recent consensus guidelines in Saudi Arabia emphasize a comprehensive strategy for CKD management, tailored to local needs and healthcare resources. The guidelines advocate for early detection and stratified care to mitigate the progression of CKD and improve patient outcomes. Key recommendations include the routine assessment of albuminuria and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) for accurate diagnosis and staging of CKD. The consensus underscores the importance of utilizing updated tools like the CKD-EPI 2021 equation for eGFR calculation and incorporating cystatin C measurements for enhanced diagnostic accuracy. Management strategies focus on controlling underlying conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, which are prevalent risk factors in the Saudi population. Personalized treatment plans are recommended, incorporating lifestyle modifications, pharmacological interventions including SGLT-2 inhibitors and GLP 1 RA, and regular monitoring to manage CKD complications effectively. The guidelines also highlight the need for specialized care and referral pathways for advanced CKD stages, including the role of nephrologists in the comprehensive management of CKD patients. In addition, the consensus addresses the need for improving public awareness and education about CKD, emphasizing early screening and preventive measures, particularly in high-risk groups. The implementation of these guidelines aims to optimize CKD management across Saudi Arabia, reduce the burden of kidney disease, and enhance overall patient care in the region.

Aerospace manufacturing SMEs are continuously facing the challenge on managing their supply chain and complying with the aerospace manufacturing quality standard requirement due to their lack of resources and the nature of business. In this paper, the ERP system based approach is presented to quality control and assurance work in light of seamless integration of in-process production data and information internally and therefore managing suppliers more effectively and efficiently. The Aerospace Manufacturing Quality Assurance Standard （BS/EN9100） is one of the most recognised and essential protocols for developing the industry-operated-and-driven quality assurance systems. The research investigates using the ERP based system as an enabler to implement BS/EN9100 quality management system at manufacturing SMEs and the associated implementation and application perspectives. An application case study on a manufacturing SME is presented by using the SAP based implementation, which helps fiarther evaluate and validate the approach and application system development.
