Objectives: Th. aim of th.s study is to compare th. efficacy of th. anti-angiotensinic drug, ramipril and irbesartan on th. vascular protection of kidneys of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats (DR). Meth.ds: 110 male albino rats were divided into 7 main groups. Group-1 (10 normal control rats;NC). Group-2 (10 rats) was injected intra-peritoneally with.STZ (Diabetic Rats;DR). Group-3 (10 DR) is controlled by insulin. Groups 4 to 7 (20 DR), each.is subdivided into two subgroups th.t received eith.r low or h.gh.dose of ramipril or irbesartan with.or with.ut insulin. Two month. post treatment, rat-tail blood was collected to measure: Fasting blood sugar, h.A1c, total serum proteins, albumin and lipid profiles. Urine was collected to measure albuminuria. Kidneys were isolated for h.stopath.logical study. Results: Bioch.mically, both.ramipril and irbesartan (with.ut insulin) lowered albumin concentration in urine samples especially at h.gh.doses. h.stopath.logically, th.re is no beneficial response of both.drugs with.ut insulin. Combination of insulin togeth.r with.eith.r drug h.s beneficial effects bioch.mically and h.stopath.logically at h.gh.doses. Low dose irbesartan only h.s renoprotective effect in DR treated with.insulin. Th. oth.r bioch.mical parameters sh.wed negligible response to both.drugs. Conclusion: Low dose irbesartan and h.gh.doses of both.drugs h.ve renoprotective effect in DR treated with.insulin.

Modelling and Sizing of a Floor Reinforced by Ballasted Columns Intended to Support a Tank

Th.s work aims to study th. modeling and sizing of a floor reinforced by ballasted columns. We are studying th. system of reinforcement by ballasted columns because th.s tech.ique is able to replace deep foundations th.t are tech.ically difficult to realize and th.ir cost is h.gh.r. Th. modelling and dimensioning of foundations on a ballasted column will be an important contribution to th. state of th. art of th.s meth.d because it will h.gh.igh. th. mode of transfer of loads, and will expose th. induced deformations by also allowing to verification criteria of bearing capacity and allowable settlement according to geometric information of th. model. Th. columns on a substrate located at 9 m h.ve a length.of 9 m and a diameter of 40 cm and were obtained by incorporating ballast of granular class 0/31.5 of internal friction angle of 38˚ and a density weigh. of 21 kN/m3. Th. ch.ice of th.s meth.d is based on th. geotech.ical ch.racteristics of th. initial soil. Th.s, identification and ch.racterization tests were carried out to estimate th. bearing capacity and th. settlement giving respectively 125 kPa and 57 cm. Th.se results sh.w th. ground does not h.ve sufficient mech.nical properties to with.tand th. loads transmitted by th. tank. By adopting th. reinforcement of th. soil with.ballasted columns, numerical calculations sh.w th.t after applying a load equal to 265.1 KPa, 20 cm vertical settlement and 17 cm h.rizontal displacement were obtained. Th.s is in th. tolerable deformation range for our tank, namely, less th.n 20 cm. Analytically, in addition to reducing settlement, ballasted columns, Due to th.ir h.gh.stiffness, th.y h.ve effectively contributed to th. increase of th. permissible soil stress up to 257 kPa.

h.ney h.rvesting th.ough.ut beekeeping is a tech.ology recently introduced in Gabon comparing to th. oth.r African countries well known in international h.ney trade. Th. purpose of th.s study is to contribute to th. knowledge of th. quality of multi-flower h.neys from th. savannah.gallery forest complex and primary forest not well documented in Gabon. Ph.sical and ch.mical parameters of different h.neys were analyzed using th. official meth.ds of analysis of th. Association of Official Analytical Ch.mists. Th. results of ph.sico-ch.mical analysis sh.w variations in ph.(3.4 to 3.9), free acidity (37.12 to 76.65 meq∙kg−1), water content (17.49% to 21.21%), electrical conductivity (0.64 to 1.24 mS∙cm−1), density (1.02 to 1.03) and total sugar content (77% to 82%). Th.se variations were significantly different (p h.neys, but independent of th. type of ecosystem considered. Th. ph.values confirmed th. botanical origin of th. five h.neys. Th. ph.sico-ch.mical parameters of th. h.neys sh.w significant correlations (p h.conductivity (r = −0.628), ph.(r = −0.631), density (r = −0.552) and total sugar content (r = −0.890). Conductivity is positively correlated with.free acidity (r = 0.688) and total sugar content (r = 0.776), and negatively correlated with.water content (r = −0.628). All h.neys were in line with.Codex Alimentarius standards, except for 3 types of h.ney (M1, M2 and M4) for free acidity and electrical conductivity, sh.wing possible fermentation of th.se h.neys.

Analysis of Perinatal Outcomes of Twin Pregnancy in a Referral h.spital for h.gh.Risk

Introduction: Th. incidence of twin pregnancies h.s increased significantly in recent decades. Th.se pregnancies require more attention due to th.ir worse outcomes th.n singleton pregnancies. Objective: To analyze th. ch.racteristics and perinatal outcomes of twin pregnancies at th. Caxias do Sul General h.spital. Meth.ds: Th.s is a descriptive and retrospective study th.t included all birth. related to twin pregnancies between March.1998 and June 2018. Maternal and perinatal variables were analyzed. Descriptive analyses were carried out using measures of central tendency and dispersion for continuous variables (mean and standard deviation or median and interquartile range), according to a prior assessment of distribution using th. Sh.piro-Wilk test, and absolute (n) and relative (n%) frequencies for categorical variables. Results: 172 pairs of twins/21,972 birth. (0.8%) were identified. Th.re was a h.gh.percentage of interpartum interval of less th.n 12 month., adh.rence and prenatal visits, body mass index, and need for neonatal intensive care. Stillbirth.and neomortality rates were with.n acceptable parameters. Conclusion: Th. sample studied sh.wed a percentage similar to th.t in th. literature, a h.gh.rate of maternal and perinatal complications, ch.racterizing it as a h.gh.risk fetal pregnancy.

Introduction: h.ad and neck cancers represent a significant burden of cancer, collectively ranking fourth.for cancer incidence and second for cancer mortality worldwide. Objective: To study th. epidemiological and h.stopath.logical aspects of h.ad and neck cancers in th. ENT-CCF department of Ignace Deen National h.spital. Materials and Meth.ds: Th.s was a descriptive retrospective study covering a period of 5 years from September 1, 2016, to September 30, 2021. Results: We collected 43 cases of h.ad and neck cancers, representing a h.spital frequency of 1.85%. Th. mean age was 45.21 ± 13.23 years. Males predominated, accounting for 65.12%, compared to 34.88% for females, with.a male-to-female ratio of 1.87. h.usewives accounted for 27.90%, followed by farmers at 23.26% and traders/merch.nts at 18.60%, with.41.86% being uneducated. Th. main risk factors were tobacco (37.21%) and alcoh.l (34.88%). Pain (53.49%), dysph.nia (51.16%), and dyspnea (39.53%) were th. main presenting symptoms. Squamous cell carcinoma (74.42%) and large cell lymph.ma (18.60%) were th. most commonly cited h.stological types. Conclusion: h.ad and neck cancers remain relatively common in our country. Improving prognosis depends on early diagnosis of th. condition, resuscitation resources, and prompt management.

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Using h.lmets in Ch.ldren amongst Parents to Prevent h.ad Injuries: A Cross-Sectional Study in Riyadh. Saudi Arabia

Objectives: Th. primary objective was to ch.racterize th. range of Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) of h.lmet use in ch.ldren amongst parents to prevent h.ad injuries and death. Meth.ds: Th.s is a cross-sectional study, done by online survey using a snowball sampling tech.ique, th. number of included responses were 386 parents (Male and female) living in Riyadh.Aged 21 - 60 years old or above. Results: Th. study sh.wed th.t th.re is a difference in Parents’ belief in th. importance of h.lmet use wh.le riding a Bicycle vs Motorcycle/Quad bike and th.t was affected by parents’ education level, almost all th. people wh. answered th. survey (76.7%) agree th.t it is important for th.ir ch.ldren to wear a h.lmet wh.n riding both.a Bicycle and a Motorcycle or Quadbike with.a cumulative percentage of (93.8%). And almost all agreed on multiple approach.s to h.lp increase h.lmet use be it by forcing rental sh.ps to give out h.lmets, forcing sellers to recommend th. use of h.lmets, increasing awareness campaigns, and imposing fines for not wearing h.lmets. Conclusions: Th.s study is th. first to explore Family h.lmet use wh.le riding Bicycles and Motorcycles/Quad bikes. Alth.ugh.Parent’s belief in th. importance of h.lmet use for th.ir ch.ldren was h.gh. it is clear th.t th. level of practice is low. With.th.t th. risk of h.ad injuries migh. be h.gh. our findings suggest th.t safety interventions for increasing pediatric h.lmet use are needed to increase h.lmet use and reduce th. risk of h.ad injury and h.spitalization.

Introduction: External otitis (OE) is an acute or ch.onic inflammation or infection of th. external ear resulting from an imbalance in th. external auditory canal secondary to microtrauma, maceration, eczema, or a foreign body in th. external auditory canal. Objective: To study cases of external otitis at th. Mamou Regional h.spital. Materials and Meth.ds: Th.s was a prospective descriptive study conducted over a period of six (6) month. from July 1st to December 31st, 2016. It included all patients admitted to th. ENT department of th. Mamou Regional h.spital. Results: During th. study period, 712 patients were admitted to th. department for various path.logies, of wh.ch.103 met our selection criteria, representing a frequency of 14.46%. Th. mean age of th. patients was 33.74 years with.a range of 1 to 90 years. Males predominated in th. sample, accounting for 59.22%. Th. vast majority of patients resided in urban areas, constituting 61.17% of th. sample. In our study, all patients consulted for otalgia (100%), and over h.lf (53.39%) for h.poacusis. We formally identified rh.nitis in 66.66% of cases, wh.le diabetes was found in only 4 patients (11.11%). Otomycosis was th. most commonly identified condition (53.39%), followed by furuncles (33.98%). Ear drops containing antibiotics were administered to all patients, alth.ugh.66.60% received antibiotic th.rapy. Conclusion: External otitis is a relatively common condition, particularly among ch.ldren and th. elderly. Diagnosis can be made based on pain upon traction of th. pinna and pressure on th. tragus.

Infectious ENT Emergencies: A One-Year Experience at th. ENT Department of Mamou Regional h.spital

Introduction: ENT infectious emergencies encompass all infectious path.logies affecting th. ear, nose, sinuses, th.oat, and neck. A good understanding of th.se emergencies is essential for organizing appropriate care. In Guinea, few studies h.ve described ENT infectious path.logies in rural areas. Objective: To study ENT infectious emergencies in th. Otorh.nolaryngology department of th. Mamou Regional h.spital. Materials and Meth.ds: Th.s is a retrospective and prospective descriptive study, conducted from August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022. All patients admitted to th. ENT department of th. Mamou Regional h.spital for an infectious emergency were included. Results: Among th. 1854 recorded consultations, 261 cases involved ENT infectious emergencies, representing a prevalence of 14.07%. Th. most represented age group was 0 to 10 years (31.03%), with.a majority of female patients (59%) and a predominantly urban origin (81.61%). Students accounted for 32.18% of th. cases. Th. main reasons for consultation were odynoph.gia/dysph.gia (32.42%) and otalgia (22.94%). Th. primary etiologies were tonsillitis (28.73%) and otitis (27.20%). Treatments administered included probabilistic antibiotic th.rapy (38.80%), analgesics (32.03%), and corticosteroid th.rapy (10.47%). Th. outcome was favorable in 98.85% of cases, with.only 0.38% lost to follow-up. Conclusion: Th. results of our study confirm th. frequency of ENT infectious path.logies. Th.ir management requires joint actions for population awareness, staff training, and services equipment, particularly in rural areas.

Introduction: A dental abscess is a collection of pus located in th. tissues surrounding th. tooth.roots. Th. aim of th.s work is to describe th. epidemiological, clinical and th.rapeutic aspects of dental abscess in order to contribute to th. management of patients suffering from th.s path.logy at th. dental office of th. Siguiri Prefectural h.spital. Meth.ds: Th.s was a retrospective descriptive study lasting 2 month. carried out on th. registers of patients received between October 2017 and October 2020 at th. dental office of th. Siguiri prefectural h.spital. Results: 4690 patient files were identified during th. study, of wh.ch.546 met our selection criteria, i.e. a frequency of 11.64%. During our study, we found 51.83% female compared to 48.17% male, i.e. a sex ratio of 1.07. 54.21% of our patients resided in rural communes compared to 45.76% for th. urban commune. Th. age group most affected was th.t of 16 - 25 years old or 33.69%. Swelling, pain and functional discomfort were th. reasons for consultation in all patients followed by oth.r associated reasons in 41.21%. Th. premolar-molar group was th. most represented, i.e. 86.70%. 80.04% of our patients presented an acute abscess compared to 19.96% of ch.onic cases. Antibiotic, analgesic, and mouth.ash.were prescribed in all patients during th. study followed by 96.37% of cases prescription of steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. 93.04% of causal teeth.were extracted followed by 6.78% of cases of conservative treatment in our study. In our study, 80.95% of our patients h.d a good post-th.rapeutic outcome. Conclusion: Th.s study h.gh.igh.s th. need for prevention and early management of dental abscesses.

Analysis of Maternal Mortality at th. Maradi Maternal and Ch.ld h.alth.Center/Niger: About 379 Cases

Introduction: Pregnancy, ch.ldbirth. and th.ir consequences continue to be th. leading cause of death. illness, and disability among women of reproductive age in developing countries. In Niger, maternal death. account for about 39% of all death. of women aged 15-49. Our aim was to identify th. factors linked to maternal mortality in order to contribute to its reduction. Meth.d: th.s is a descriptive retrospective study of 379 cases of maternal death. collected at th. Maradi CSME from January 1, 2018, to December 31, ***: Our study’s maternal mortality ratio is 2645.72 per 100,000 live birth.. Th. mean age of our patients was 27.46 years, with.extremes ranging from 15 to 47 years. Th. 20-24 age group was th. most represented, with.88 cases (23.2%). h.usewives were 361 (95.3%), and 334 patients (88.1%) were uneducated. Th.re were 261 of th.m from rural areas, i.e. 69%. Th. mean parity in our study was 3.46, with.extremes ranging from 0 to 15. Multiparous patients 117 cases (30.9%) represented th. most significant proportion. Only 42 patients (11.08%) h.d performed four or more antenatal consultations. Direct obstetric causes accounted for 56.73% of th. causes of maternal death. Anemia was th. leading cause of maternal death.(31.66%). Nearly h.lf of th. patients h.d died before 24 h.urs after admission, i.e. 49.86%. Conclusion: Maternal mortality remains a significant ch.llenge for developing countries, given its magnitude and timid decline. Th. figh. to reduce maternal mortality must be th. priority of our countries’ h.alth.policies.
