Congenital eversion of the upper eyelids is a rare condition, the exact cause of which remains unknown. It is more frequently associated with Down’s syndrome and black babies. If diagnosed early and treated properly, the condition can be managed without surgery. We report a case of non syndromic congenital bilateral severe upper eyelid eversion in otherwise normal 3 days old neonate of African descent (Tanzanian), born by vaginal delivery. The case was conservatively managed by lubricants, antibiotics and eyelid patching. We report this case because from the best of our knowledge it has never been documented here at our hospital and Tanzania before.

Kalapi(Kalappia celebica)is an endemic legume of Sulawesi and has been included in the endangered category since the early *** of the species is possible through ex situ culture *** mycorrhizal fungi(AMF)can accelerate plant growth which in turn supports the conservation of endangered *** study aimed to assess the efficacy of local AMF to accelerate the growth of kalapi and increase nutrient uptake in kalapi grown in gold mine tailing *** were three AMF treatments,Glomus claroideum,Glomus coronatum,and a mixture of both,plus the *** treatment was replicated three times,each consisting of five *** results show that the highest AMF colony was obtained by kalapi seedlings inoculated with Glomus coronatum and the mixture of *** range of mycorrhizae inoculation effect values was 59.7–71.3%.AMF inoculation increased growth and dry weight of 4-month-old seedlings compared to *** and total weights of kalapi inoculated with *** were significantly different from those inoculated with the AMF ***,they are not significantly different from kalapi inoculated with *** results also show that AMF increased nitrogen and phosphorous uptake by the roots,as well as nitrogen,phosphorous,potassium,manganese and iron by the *** AMF treatments decreased potassium uptake in the roots,except in kalapi inoculated with *** AMF mixture decreased iron contents the roots by 15%.AMF can be developed into biofertilizer to support the conservation of kalapi in tropical Indonesia.

Background: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the major contributor to maternal mortality and morbidity worldwide as well as in Tanzania. Studies have shown Pre-eclampsia as a risk indicator for Postpartum hemorrhage and D-dimer tends to rise in women with pre-eclampsia. Few studies that have shown the association between D-dimer and PPH have been controversial and differ according to ethnicity and lifestyle. Hence there is no suitable reference interval for D-dimer in predicting Postpartum hemorrhage among women with pre-eclampsia. Broad Objective: This study aimed to assess the association, sensitivity, and specificity of D-dimer as a laboratory predictor of postpartum hemorrhage among women with pre-eclampsia at KCMC hospital. Methodology: This was a hospital-based analytical cross-sectional study conducted at KCMC Hospital in Northern Tanzania from September 2022 to March 2023. A total of 195 women with pre-eclampsia were included in this study. Plasma D-dimer levels were taken from women with pre-eclampsia pre-delivery. Haematocrit was compared before and after delivery, and a fall of 10% was considered as Postpartum hemorrhage together with clinical assessment of the patient. Participants were divided among those who had severe features and those who did not have severe features and were further categorized into those who had PPH and those who did not have PPH. Logistic regression was used to determine the association between D-dimer and PPH adjusting for other factors. The Receiver Operating Curve (ROC) was used to evaluate the predictive value. Results: Higher median D-dimer levels were seen among women who had PPH compared to those who had no PPH. D-dimer was seen to be associated with PPH, thus for every unit increase of µg/ml of D-dimer among women who had pre-eclampsia without severe features there was a 14% significant increase in the odds of having postpartum hemorrhage and a 45% significant increase of having postpartum hemorrhage among those who had pre

Plant-parasitic nematodes cause various diseases that can be fatal to the infected *** causes losses to the agricultural industry,such as crop failure and poor crop *** an accurate nematode classification system is vital for pest identification and *** learning classification techniques can help speed up Nematode identification as it can perform tasks directly from *** the present study,four state-of-the-art deep learning models(ResNet101v2,CoAtNet-0,Effi-cientNetV2B0,and EfficientNetV2M)were evaluated in plantparasitic nematode classification from microscopic *** models were trained using a combination of three different optimizers(Adam,SGD,dan RMSProp)and several data augmentation with image transformations,such as image flip,blurring,noise addition,brightness,and contrast *** performance of the trained models was *** test accuracy,EfficientNetV2B0 and EfficientNetV2M using RMSProp and brightness augmentation give the best result of 97.94%However,the overall performance of EfficientNetV2M was superior,with 98.66%mean class accuracy,97.99%F1 score,98.26%average precision,and 97.94%average recall.

Laevistrombus canarium is one of the marine gastropod mollusks that have high commercial value, particularly in the aquaculture sector in Malaysia. This study was conducted to determine the feeding and food items of L. canarium at different ontogenetic stages （juveniles, sub-adults and adults） from Merambong shoals, Malaysia. Field observations on feeding activity were conducted, followed by detailed laboratory analysis on the stomach content. Five-minutes observations on randomly selected individuals were conducted at the field sampling site and their feeding activities were recorded with reference to age stage. Various shell sizes from each ontogenetic stage were randomly collected and quickly anaesthetized with ice and preserved in 10% formalin before being transported to the laboratory for stomach content analyses. Field observations showed that L. canarium mainly grazed on epiphytes occurring on seagrass （46.67%）, followed by sediment surface （40%） and epiphytes occurring on macroalgae （13.33%）. Stomach content analyses showed a significant difference （P〈0.05） in gastro-somatic index （Gasi） between the juveniles （0.39±0.05）, sub-adults （0.68±0.09） and adults （0.70±0.05）（P〈0.05）. Food items found in the conch stomach include diatoms, detritus, foraminifera, seagrass and macroalgae fragments, sand particles and shell fragments. The Index of Relative Importance （%IRI） indicates three main types of food dominated the three ontogenetic stages namely diatoms, sand particles and detritus. However, no significant difference （P〉0.05） was detected between the three main food items （diatoms, sand particles and detritus） among the ontogenetic stages. Therefore, feeding activity revealed the role of the dog conch in the marine food network. While, classification of the types of food consumed by L. canarium through stomach content analysis determines the particular position of the gastropod in the food chain. Mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPKs) are the main regulators of cellular proliferation, growth, and survival in physiological or pathological conditions. Aberrant MAPK signaling plays a pivotal role in carcinogenesis, which leads to development and progression of human cancer. Dual-specificity phosphatase 6(DUSP6), a member of the MAPK phosphatase family, interacts with specifically targeted extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 via negative feedback regulation in the MAPK pathway of mammalian cells. This phosphatase functions in a dual manner, pro-oncogenic or tumor-suppressive, depending on the type of cancer. To date, the tumor-suppressive role of DUSP6 has been demonstrated in pancreatic cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, esophageal squamous cell and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and ovarian cancer. Its pro-oncogenic role has been observed in human glioblastoma, thyroid carcinoma, breast cancer, and acute myeloid carcinoma. Both roles of DUSP6 have been documented in malignant melanoma depending on the histological subtype of the cancer. Loss-or gain-of-function effects of DUSP6 in these cancers highlights the significance of this phosphatase in carcinogenesis. Development of methods that use the DUSP6 gene as a therapeutic target for cancer treatment or as a prognostic factor for diagnosis and evaluation of cancer treatment outcome has great potential. This review focuses on molecular characteristics of the DUSP6 gene and its role in cancers in the purview of development, progression, and cancer treatment outcome.

Efficacy and safety of latanoprost/timolol fixed combination dosed twice daily compared to once daily in patients with primary open angle glaucoma

AIM:To evaluate whether latanoprost/timolol fixed combination(LTFC)dosed twice daily may provide further intraocular pressure(IOP)reduction and evaluate the safety profile at this ***:This is an open-labeled,randomized,prospective crossover study on fourty primary open angle glaucoma *** weeks of washout period were followed by randomization to either once daily(OD,group A)or twice daily dosing(BD,group B)of LTFC for *** another 2-week washout period,the patients’treatment dose was crossed-over for another *** reduction alongside ocular and systemic side effects were ***:Mean baseline IOP was 18.57±2.93 and 17.8±3.01 mm Hg before OD and BD dose respectively,(P=0.27).Mean IOP after BD dose was statistically lower(12.49±1.59 mm Hg)compared to OD(13.48±1.81 mm Hg,P=0.017).Although IOP reduction after BD dose was more(5.32±3.24 mm Hg,29.89%)than after OD dosing(5.04 mm Hg,27.14%),it did not reach statistical significance(P=0.68).Patients switched from OD to BD(group A)showed mean IOP reduction by 0.69 mm Hg[95%confidence interval(CI):-0.09 to 1.48 mm Hg,P=0.078];but patients switched from BD to OD(group B)had significantly higher mean IOP by 1.25 mm Hg(95%CI:-2.04 to-0.46 mm Hg,P=0.006).BD dose had more ocular side effects albeit ***:Mean IOP after LTFC dosed twice daily is statistically lower,with additional mild side effects.
