Background:levels of breath methane,together with breath hydrogen,are determined by means of repeated collections of both,following ingestion of a carbohydrate substrate,at 15–20 minutes intervals,until 10 samples have been *** frequent sampling is required to capture a rise of hydrogen emissions,which typically occur later in the test:in contrast,methane levels are typically elevated at *** methane emissions represent the principal objective of the test,a spot methane test(i.e.a single-time-point sample taken after an overnight fast without administration of substrate)may be ***:We analysed 10-sample lactulose breath test data from 11674 consecutive unique subjects who submitted samples to Commonwealth Laboratories(Salem,MA,USA)from sites in all of the states of the USA over a one-year *** North American Consensus(NAC)guidelines criteria for breath testing served as a reference ***:The overall prevalence of methane-positive subjects(by NAC criteria)was 20.4%,based on corrected methane results,and 18.9% based on raw *** our USA dataset,the optimal cut-off level to maximize sensitivity and specificity was4ppm CH4,94.5%[confidence interval(CI):93.5–95.4%]and 95.0%(CI:94.6–95.5%),*** use of a correction factor(CF)(5%CO_(2) as numerator)led to reclassifications CH4-high to CH_(4)-low in 0.7% and CH_(4)-low to CH_(4)-high in 2.1%.Conclusions:A cut-off value for methane at baseline of either≥4 ppm,as in our USA dataset,or≥5 ppm,as described in a single institution study,are both highly accurate in identifying subjects at baseline that would be diagnosed as‘methanepositive’in a 10-sample lactulose breath test for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural Science and Technology, Tay Nguyen university has collaborated with Stanford Solar Center of Stanford university on Space Weather monitor project. We have developed the TNU-SuperSID teaching module which has three main parts： antenna, preamplifier and data logger. this module can detect the variation of Very Low Frequency （VLF, 3 - 30 kHz） signals during sunrise and sunset transition, and sudden ionospheric disturbance due to solar flares. In other word, the behavior of the Earth＇s lower ionosphere corresponding the solar activities is understood by using VLF technique. Our project helps undergraduate students who are learning the astrophysics and space physics to enhance their knowledge in space science and their technical skills with real experiments. Through the participant in this project, students can also be gained their skills such as communication, working in team, processing data, etc.

Background Transforming growth factor β （TGFβ） is one of the most important growth factors in the development of fibrosis and scarring on cornea. Smad7, an inhibitory Smad, can inhibit TGFβ signal transduction. In recent years, effects of lentiviral-mediated Smad7 on inhibition of fibrosis on some organs have been studied, while little is known about the effects on cornea. this study aimed to determine the effects of lentiviral-mediated SmadTgene expression on keratocyte proliferation and fibrosis induced by TGF β2 in vitro. Methods Keratocytes were cultured from corneal tissue isolated from Sprague-Dawley （SD） rats and transfected with Smad7 expressing lentiviral vector （Lv-Smad7） or non-functioning control vector （Lv-blank）. Following the exposure to TGFβ2, keratocytes were processed for immunoblotting to assess the phosphorylation of Smad2 as down-stream event of TGFβ/Smad signaling. Expression of fibrotic markers a-smooth muscle actin （a-SMA）, type III collagen （collagen III） were measured by Western blotting and quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction （PCR）. Overall cell proliferation was determined by 3-（4,5-dimethyl-thiazol-2-yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide （MTT） assay and the expression of cell cycle-related marker Ki67 at both mRNA and protein levels. Results The Smad7 gene transfer suppressed TGFβ/Smad signaling in keratocytes by down-regulating phosphorylation of Smad2. Markers of cell proliferation and fibrosis including Ki67, a-SMA, collagen III were inhibited by introduction of Smad 7 into TGFβ exposed keratocytes. Consequently, the rate of cell proliferation was attenuated. Conclusion Smad7gene transfer inhibited fibrogenic responses of keratocytes to TGFβ2.

Multiple Intelligences Theory was proposed by Howard Gardner in 1983. In the MI theory, Gardner put forward eight intelligences to account for human potential in children and adults. this paper aims to make an in-depth analysis of MI theory by discussing previous studies, its current situation, and then discuss its implications in foreign language teaching. The study shows that MIT has its advantages and drawbacks. this study has implications in the field of FLT which may offer some inspiring insights in educational reforms.

this paper presents a software application of a new method for color restoration of faded images and maps. this method is composed of two steps. The first step is to enable the recovery of the brightest point and the darkest. The second step lets build chart of integrated average luminance in （R, G, B） space. this is different from the usual chart built for each color channel separately. The algorithm focuses on adjusting the points with the average luminance and especially the point almost gray. The algorithm is programmed as a part of the data-tool software package. The data-tool software package comprises of two parts： Part I for restoration of aged photos; and Part II specifically for maps. The data-tool software is programmed in the C language, integrated with the support of a few tools in Matlap A set of the old faded maps at the Geological Museum of Vietnam is selected to test the performance of the proposed color restoration method. The time needed to process images is shorted by utilizing parallel computing tools.

Controlling the phase of light in magnetoplasmonic structures is receiving increasing attention because of its already shown capability in ultrasensitive and label-free molecular-level ***-optical Kerr reversal has been achieved and well explained in nanodisks by using the phase of localized *** this paper,we report that the Kerr reversal can also be produced by surface plasmon polaritons *** experimentally confirm this in Co and Ag/Co/Ag metal nanogratings,and can give a qualitative explanation that it is the charge accumulation at the interface between the grating surface and air that acts as the electromagnetic restoring force to contribute necessary additional phase for Kerr *** finding can enrich the means of designing and fabricating magneto-optical-based biochemical sensors.
