The disposal of filtered tailings in high dry stacks can induce particle breakage,changing the material's behaviour during the structure's *** grading changes influence material properties at the critical state,and this is not mature for intermediate artificial soils(tailings)in a broad range of confining *** this paper,it aims to describe the behaviour of iron ore tailings in a spectrum of confining pressures broader than the reported in previous studies.A series of consolidated drained(CD)triaxial tests was carried out with confining pressures ranging from 0.075 MPa to 120 *** results show that the amount of breakage plays an essential role in the response of iron ore *** existence of curved critical state line(CSL)in both specific volume(ν)-logarithm of mean effective stress(p′)and deviatoric stress(q)-mean effective stress(p′)planes,and different responses in the deviatoric stress-axial strain-volumetric strain curves were *** inverse S-shaped equation was proposed to represent the silty-sandy tailings'behaviour up to high pressures onν-lnp′*** proposed equation provides a basis for enhancing constitutive models and considers the evolution of the grading up to severe loading *** adjustment considered three regions with different responses associated with particle breakage at different pressure levels.

The disposal of mining tailings has increasingly focused on the use of dry *** structures offer more security since they use filtered and compacted *** of the construction method and the heights achieved,the material that compounds the structure can be subjected to different stress paths along the failure *** theoretical framework considered in the design of these structures generally is the critical state soil mechanics(CSSM).However,the data in the literature concerning the uniqueness of critical state line(CSL)is still controversial as the soil is subjected to different stress *** respect to tailings,this question is even more *** paper studies two tailings with different gradings due to the beneficial processes over extension and compression paths.A series of drained and undrained triaxial tests was conducted over a range of initial densities and stress *** the q-p'plane,different critical stress ratio(M)values were obtained for compression and extension stress ***,the critical state friction angle is very similar with a slightly higher critical state friction angle for extension *** stress path dependent CSLs were obtained in the n-lnp0 plane with the extension tests below the CSL defined in *** the fines content,the studied tailings presented very similar M and critical state friction angle ***,the fines content af-fects the volumetric behavior of the studied tailings and the CSLs on the n-lnp0 plane shift downwards with the increasing fines content for compression and extension *** relation to dilatancy analysis,the fines content did not present an evident influence on the dilatancy of the ***,different values of mean stress ratio N were obtained between compression and extension tests and can corroborate the existence of non-unique CSLs for these materials.

Monolithic LC method applied to fesoterodine fumarate low dose extended-release tablets:Dissolution and release kinetics

A dissolution test for fesoterodine low dose extended-release tablets using liquid chromatographic（LC） method equipped with a C18 monolithic column was developed and validated. LC system was operated isocratically at controlled temperature（40 1C） using a mobile phase of acetonitrile：methanol：0.03 M ammonium acetate（p H 3.8）（30：15：55, v/v/v）, run at a flow rate of 1.5 m L/min and detected at 208 nm. The best dissolution conditions for this formulation were achieved using a USP apparatus 2（paddle） at 100 rpm and 900 m L of phosphate buffer at p H 6.8 as the dissolution *** parameters such as the specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, and robustness were evaluated according to international guidelines, giving results within the acceptable range. The kinetic parameters of drug release were also investigated using model-dependent methods and the dissolution profiles were best described by the Higuchi model. The validated dissolution test can be applied for quality control of this formulation.

optimization of Electrical Conductivity of SA-graphene Nanocomposites Using Response Surface Methodology

Synthesis and characterization of 4-{(E)-[(5-bromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]amino}-N-carbamimidoylbenzene-1-sulfonamide(SA) and its composites with graphene(SA-GF) were performed. Compound SA and SA-GF were characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR. The GF dispersion in the composites was analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) for morphology. Thermal properties of SA and nanocomposites were investigated using differential thermal analysis(DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). The optimum electrical conductivity of the new sulfonamide-based Schiff base was determined to be 1.78×10–5 S/cm at a frequency of 9923 Hz, an applied voltage of –19 v, a mass fraction of 9.38% for graphene loading using a central composite design in the response surface methodology. The significance of the selected parameters(frequency, voltage and GF amount) in the model was determined by the analysis of variance(ANovA). The results showed that frequency and graphene loading represent important model terms and have considerable effects on the conductivity of SA.

Traction power substation balance and losses estimation in AC railways using a power transfer device through Monte Carlo analysis

The high dynamic power requirements present in modern railway transportation systems raise research challenges for an optimal operation of railway electrification. This paper presents a Monte Carlo analysis on the application of a power transfer device installed in the neutral zone and exchanging active power between two sections. The main analyzed parameters are the active power balance in the two neighbor traction power substations and the system power losses. A simulation framework is presented to comprise the desired analysis and a universe of randomly distributed scenarios are tested to evaluate the effectiveness of the power transfer device system. The results show that the density of trains and the relative branch length of a traction power substation should be considered in the evaluation phase of the best place to install a power transfer device, towards the reduction of the operational power losses, while maintaining the two substations balanced in terms of active power.

Abdominal Muscular Metastases of a Pulmonar Adenocarcinoma

Metastases are synonymous of malignant neoplasm in advanced stage and so associated with a poor prognosis. As the first manifestation of cancer disease, the muscle metastasis is very rare. The definitive diagnosis of its presence is made based on histology. The authors presented the case of a patient with a lung adenocarcinoma, being with first manifestation of it, a muscle metastasis only about a month later there were clinical manifestations with imaging appearance that led to the diagnosis of a primary neoplasm. The rare manifestation of the disease motivated the study and surveillance of the patient and lead to the diagnosis.

Hydrogeochemical Research of Surface Water of the Córrego Sujo Watershed, Teresópolis, RJ, Brazil

The surface water quality was investigated in the Córrego Sujo watershed, located in the municipality of Teresópolis, a mountainous region in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The emphasis focused on inorganic parameters of water, since there are applications of pesticides in agricultural cultivations. The natural and anthropogenic contributions of the study area were monitored monthly in eight sites in the river channels of the drainage basin. The results were analyzed using an ICP-oes spectrophotometer and subsequently compared to Conama Resolution 357/05. In order to support the interpretation of the results of water quality, flow and precipitation data were measured in the watershed, along with the land use and vegetation cover map produced from a GeoEye satellite image. The study revealed that the surface waters were in high concentrations and above those recommended by Conama Resolution. It was noted also that the lithological and pedological variables influenced the results of water quality. Regarding seasonality, it has not been possible to establish a common standard to all elements in the rainy season or dry season, however, in the analysis of each parameter separately, there was evidence of a concentration distribution in temporal variation. Therefore, the results of this study indicate that it is also necessary to highlight these issues in the territorial planning of the municipality and in the management of the Committee of Rio Piabanha watershed, to avoid the increasing of uncontrolled expansion of irrigated crops and intensive use of agrochemical inputs.

The Graft Thickness in Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty:What Is the Importance to the Final visual outcome?

Introduction: Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK) is currently considered the procedure of choice for the treatment of endothelial dysfunctions. Despite DSAEK being a promising procedure to improve visual acuity (vA), the ideal graft thickness donor still remains under discussion. Purpose: To analyze the influence of graft thickness on postoperative vA and complications in DSAEK surgery. Methods: Retrospective study of 112 eyes that underwent DSAEK surgery. Donor grafts were obtained by dissection with automatic microkeratome, using different head sizes. Central corneal thickness (CCT) of donor corneas before dissection was measured by ultrasound pachymetry. The choice of the cutting depth was based on CCT measurements and the final desired residual corneal thickness, corresponding to the estimated donor graft thickness (EDGT). The eyes were divided into 3 groups, depending on the EDGT: 200 μm (Group 3). Intraoperative, postoperative complications and the best corrected visual acuity (BCvA) at 6 months postoperatively were evaluated, comparing these 3 groups. Results: The average EDGT was 164 ± 10 μm in Group 1188 ± 7 μm in Group 2 and 234 ± 30 μm in Group 3. At 6 months postoperative the average BCvA was significantly better in Group 1 (BCvA: 0.74 ± 0.20), compared to Group 2 (BCvA: 0.54 ± 0.20) and Group 3 (BCvA: 0.39 ± 0.18). Intraoperative and postoperative complications included: graft perforation during cutting (0.9% of cases), graft rejection (3.6%), primary graft failure (4.5%), and graft detachment (3.6%). Its distribution was uniform between the 3 groups. Conclusion: The study proves that DSAEK is an effective surgical technique for the treatment of endothelial dysfunction, demonstrating that the use of thinner grafts (EDGT ove the final visual outcome, with a significant improvement on BCvA, without increasing the risk of complications.
